모바일로봇의 정밀 실내주행을 위한 개선된 ORB-SLAM 알고리즘 (Modified ORB-SLAM Algorithm for Precise Indoor Navigation of a Mobile Robot)

  • In this paper, we propose a modified ORB-SLAM (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) for precise indoor navigation of a mobile robot. The exact posture and position estimation by the ORB-SLAM is not possible all the times for the indoor navigation of a mobile robot when there are not enough features in the environment. To overcome this shortcoming, additional IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) and encoder sensors were installed and utilized to calibrate the ORB-SLAM. By fusing the global information acquired by the SLAM and the dynamic local location information of the IMU and the encoder sensors, the mobile robot can be obtained the precise navigation information in the indoor environment with few feature points. The superiority of the modified ORB-SLAM was verified to compared with the conventional algorithm by the real experiments of a mobile robot navigation in a corridor environment.

GPS/DME 통합항법시스템에서 전파고도계의 효과적인 사용 (Effective Use of Radio Altimeter in GPS/DME Integrated Navigation Systems)

  • Many researches on use of local ground navigation systems can be found to overcome vulnerability of GNSS. Effective use of an altimeter is proposed in GNSS/DME integrated navigation systems. A weighted DOP based on statistics of measurement error is derived for a given vehicle motion trajectory. From the derived DOP, the vertical error is estimated. By comparing the estimated vertical error with error specification of the altimeter, use of the altimeter is determined in the GPS/DME integrated navigation systems. In order to show effectiveness of the proposed method, 50 times Monte-Carlo simulations were performed for a GPS/DME integrated navigation system. The results show that the proposed method gives more accurate navigation outputs when the number of GPS satellites in view varies.

  • A number of navigation improvements are envisaged : Differential GPS - WAAS, LAAS, and Performance Based Navigation. The GPS receiver verifies the integrity(usability) of the signals received from the GPS constellation through a process called receiver autonomous integrity monitoring(RAIM) to determine if a satellite is providing corrupted information. This paper describe the RAIM function and Performance-Based Navigation implementation of Mission Equipment Package(MEP) for Korean Utility Helicopter.

  • 관성항법시스템 (INS; inertial navigation system)은 센서 오차에 의해 유발되는 항법오차 보정을 위해 보정시스템이나 보정센서를 사용한다. 위성항법시스템 (GNSS; global navigation satellite system), 속도계 (VMS; velocity measurement sensor), 레이더는 INS를 보정하기 위해 일반적으로 사용되는 장치이다. 터널을 지나거나 전파 방해를 받아 GNSS를 사용할 수 없는 환경에서 지상항법시스템 (LNS; land navigation system)이 주로 사용하는 보정센서는 속도계이다. 속도계는 진행방향의 속도성분만 존재하고 횡축 및 종축 속도성분이 없기 때문에 속도계 보정항법을 수행 할 때 직진 주행이 요구된다. 국내는 고속도로라도 원활히 속도계 보정항법을 할 수 있는 구간이 드문데, 이는 국토 형상 및 도로 건설 조건이 속도계 보정에 필요한 직진성 유지에 적합하지 않기 때문이다. 본 논문은 직진성이 보장되지 않는 환경에서 LNS의 속도계를 사용한 보정항법을 수행할 때, 측정치의 필터 갱신 조건을 두어 성능을 개선하는 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 또한 차량탑재 시험결과를 제시하여 알고리즘의 성능을 입증하였다.

Integrated Navigation of the Mobile Service Robot in Office Environments

  • This paper describes an integrated navigation strategy for the autonomous service robot PSR. The PSR is under development at the KIST for service tasks in indoor public environments. The PSR is a multi-functional mobile-manipulator typed agent, which works in daily life. Major advantages of proposed navigation are as follows: 1) Structured control architecture for a systematic integration of various software modules. A Petri net based configuration design enables stable control flow of a robot. 2) A range sensor based generalized scheme of navigation. Any range sensor can be selectively applied using the proposed navigation scheme. 3) No need for modification of environments. (No use of artificial landmarks.) 4) Hybrid approaches combining reactive behavior as well as deliberative planner, and local grid maps as well as global topological maps. A presented experimental result shows that the proposed navigation scheme is useful for mobile service robot in practical applications.

한국지역에서의 단일주파수 GNSS 사용자를 위한 전리층 잔류 오차 모델 개발 (A Residual Ionospheric Error Model for Single Frequency GNSS Users in the Korean Region)

  • GNSS (global navigation satellite system)측정치 보정 후에 남아 있는 전리층 잔류 오차에 대해 시뮬레이션 기반의 영향분석(오차 및 서비스 영역 분석 등)을 수행하기 위해서는 위해서는 전리층 잔류 오차에 대한 통계적 모델링이 필수적으로 선행되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 국내 GNSS 측정치 및 Klobuchar 모델을 활용하여 국내 정상상태 전리층 환경에서의 전리층 잔류 오차에 대한 보수적인 표준편차의 해석적 모델을 도출하였다. 다양한 전리층 활동 상태를 포함하기 위해 미(美) CAT I (category I) LAAS (local-area augmentation system) 전리층 통계치 산출일 중 ROTI (rate-of-tec index) 지수를 활용하여 전리층 활동이 비정상적인 날짜는 제외하고 GNSS 분석 데이터를 구성하였다. GNSS 데이터 처리를 통해 전리층 잔류 오차를 계산하고, 잔류 오차 거동의 특성을 근거하여 지역 시 및 위성 앙각에 따라 통계치를 산출하였다. 마지막으로 전리층 잔류 오차의 확률적 거동을 보수적으로 포함할 수 있는 표준편차값에 대한 해석적 모델을 감쇠 지수 접합을 통해 도출하였다.

Vision-Based Relative State Estimation Using the Unscented Kalman Filter

  • A new approach for spacecraft absolute attitude estimation based on the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) is extended to relative attitude estimation and navigation. This approach for nonlinear systems has faster convergence than the approach based on the standard extended Kalman filter (EKF) even with inaccurate initial conditions in attitude estimation and navigation problems. The filter formulation employs measurements obtained from a vision sensor to provide multiple line(-) of(-) sight vectors from the spacecraft to another spacecraft. The line-of-sight measurements are coupled with gyro measurements and dynamic models in an UKF to determine relative attitude, position and gyro biases. A vector of generalized Rodrigues parameters is used to represent the local error-quaternion between two spacecraft. A multiplicative quaternion-error approach is derived from the local error-quaternion, which guarantees the maintenance of quaternion unit constraint in the filter. The scenario for bounded relative motion is selected to verify this extended application of the UKF. Simulation results show that the UKF is more robust than the EKF under realistic initial attitude and navigation error conditions.

Study on Small Vessel′s Pseudo-AIS Interoperable with Universal AIS

  • Universal AIS, which has been adopted officially for automatic identification systems among regulated ships by SOLAS, should be installed, for example, on all passenger ships over 300 tons engaged in international voyage and over 500 tons in domestic voyage, sequentially from 2002 to 2004. We must not overlook the fact than-ruled regions by regional authorities in the case of VTS. Actually a major portion of accidents have happened in small vessels like fishing vessels. However, they are not equipped with automatic identification tools, due to the high costs of the equipment for identifying purposes, as well as the absence of regulation In this paper, we researched the alternative of automatic identification for small vessel instead of universal AIS. We analyzed the requirement of automatic identification for small vessel about wireless communication method, traffic volume, etc. We proposed the identification system for small vessels in local areas and developed the Local Vessel Identification System (LVIS) interoperable with universal AIS using a PDA platform and wireless network.

  • Given a certain target point, the mobile robot's navigation could be mainly considered about two areas, 'how fast and accurate' and 'how safe'. Such problems regarding the velocity and stability possess close relationship with the path in which the mobile robot navigates in. Thus, the system proposed in this research paper was constructed so the mobile robot can obtain the optimum path by utilizing the information according to the environmental map, based on the Global Path Planning. Also by inducing the Local Path Planning method, it was constructed so that the robots can avoid the obstacles, which were not shown in the environmental map on-line. Particularly, by fusing the Local and Global Path Planning together, it is possible for the robots to plan similar path. At the same time, the focus was on the materialization of effective mobile robot's navigation. It was made possible by utilizing the Fuzzy Logic Control. Also, the validity of the algorithm proposed was proven through the trial experiment.

  • COsmicheskaya Sisteyama Poiska Avariynich Sudov Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking (COSPAS-SARSAT) is an international communication support program to perform search and rescue (SAR) operations in emergency situations by using satellite signals relayed from a beacon. The legacy COSPAS-SARSAT was originally composed of low altitude and geostationary Earth orbit satellites; thus, a limited number of directional dish antennas was sufficient to cover the limited number of visible satellites at the local user terminal. However, the second generation COSPAS-SARSAT newly added the medium Earth orbit satellites, e.g., Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to the existing system, so that the number of visible satellites increase dramatically, and the system upgrade to cover all the visible satellites is foreseen. The additional use of planned Korea Positioning System (KPS) to existing GNSS is envisaged to provide a better performance of their SAR service. This paper presents the benefits of the additional use of KPS together with the phased array antennas at the local user terminal of the COSPAS-SARSAT. This is to effectively response to the increase of the number of visible satellites. Numerical simulation is included to evaluate the performance improvement of COSPAS-SARSAT in terms of the number of visible satellites, geometry between satellites and user, and position estimation accuracy.
