  • With the advent of local autonomy, local governments are seeking balanced regional development through the decentralization of the central government's authority. In line with this trend, each province has begun to recognize the significance of local identity as a means to promote regional development, and this recognition contributed to developing various brands using local resources. However, a number of these brands are similar to one another because they were developed without thoroughly analyzing and strategically differentiating local identities from one another. Thus, this study aims to propose local characteristics and consumer consciousness that need to be considered in local speciality brand development through practical marine product brand development cases representing Yeosu's local characteristics. This study intends to contribute to setting an effective direction of marine product branding by applying local color to brand development strategies and brand identity elements and by suggesting post-management and promotion plans of local brand positioning.

An integral design of public design that successfully plans and executes local identity, and changes recognition of integral management of urban design, is suggested as followings. Firstly, when the catchment area is divided in metropolitan area, it should be reset according to the natural environment condition regardless of administrative area system like city and county. It is the method to classify the metropolitan area by researching and analyzing geographical condition, weather condition, soil and vegetation in detail and subclassify it by the visual commonness of natural environment. Secondly, it is necessary to access the urban landscape, public design and urban color from the overall aspect emphasizing the plan for each field and local identity. They should be practiced by the role and category of each field on the basis of consistent design strategy and instruction but the cooperation system is required as a process to reinforce and specify the mutual limit. Thirdly, the artificial structure is constructed through artificial adjustment depending on the urban formation process and the development time point. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the rapid urban development, the change speed and the landscape formation of each age. It is necessary to classify the type of artificial landscape by age and form similarity and separate the area that should be generalized and controlled by entire metropolitan area form the area that should be specialized by basic local government.

  • Ecomuseum has changed for general museums with a strong historical connotation, and more identity museums, which reminds one of their purposes of providing evidence, conserving and remembering. Small museums playa very important social role and have a level of importance which should do something to improve cultural policy. The "ecomuseum" phenomenon, in other words this spontaneous birth of numerous museums in local communities, this desire to retrace one's history and fix it in one's mind, has only one precedent in Italy. This precedent involved the opening of numerous museums dedicated to the "Risorgimento" and "Patriotic History", which, in the closing decades of the 19th century, were founded on political input all over the country, in big towns and little villages alike. Searching amidst the exhibits for the memory of a national identity and they are proof that local communities are filled with an unstoppable need to know about their roots and to reassess their own identities.

  • Recently, there has been a trend designing a consistent and uniform regional identity in South Korean provinces as demonstrated by efforts in Chungcheongnam buk-Do. The motivating goals have been to establish an identity for local residents, provide voluntary services, achieve higher value-added business, introduce new management strategies, and establish a local brand through the exportation of local specialties. The by-products of these goals when accomplished include: maintaining a consistent policy, securing governmental economic efficiency of the province, characterizing local culture and improving quality of life. In this study, I tried to find out whether a local logo which is associated with a city plays a core role in the city's identity by comparing each symbol's shape, color and other components which are ways of expressing its meaning. In this respect, I analyzed the type of the Chungcheongnam buk-Do's symbol marks (30) and tried to suggest the desirable direction in developing symbol marks.

  • The paper examined Southeast Asia as a whole and focused on similarities among countries composing what is now known as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In order to determine these similarities, the analysis focused on the fact that during World War II the whole of Southeast Asia was occupied by one political power: Japan. The policies the Japanese implemented in the region were to a degree very similar in terms of pressures and tensions that occurred in the different countries. The paper argues that these pressures and the responses of the various peoples of Southeast Asia instilled a nucleus of common identity in Southeast Asia as a whole. Basically, the policies that the Japanese implemented all over Southeast Asia were the following: the setting up regional administrations; the extraction of resources and emphasis on local self-sufficiency; the implementation of cultural Japanization; and local indigenization policies. The Southeast Asian responses that crystalized this joint Southeast Asian identity may be described as: accommodating and resisting the Japanese; commemorating portraying; and collectively remembering the era. The process of action and reaction between Japan and Southeast Asia was formative of this joint Southeast Asian identity.
