An Estimation of the Acreage Response Function of Major Vegetables in Gyeongnam Province (경남지역 주요 채소류 재배면적 반응함수 추정)

  • This study estimated acreage response functions for greenhouse paprika, greenhouse strawberry, open-land garlic, and open-land spinach by using Gyeongsangnamdo agricultural income data. The results show that the cultivation area for greenhouse paprika increased because the agricultural management costs decreased, and the risk of price volatility was relatively low. On the other hand, the cultivation area for greenhouse strawberries decreased due to increasing agricultural management costs and the greater risk of price volatility. In the case of open-land garlic and spinach, the cultivation area remained stagnant due to the greater risk of price volatility, despite increasing agricultural revenue. We derived several policy implications from our results. The risk of price volatility in agricultural products is greater for crops grown on land rather than crops grown in greenhouses. Therefore, the local government needs to adopt the "agricultural revenue guarantee insurance" in preference to crops grown on land rather than crops grown in greenhouses. On the other hand, in the case of greenhouse crops, agricultural management costs are very high. Thus, local government should focus on replacing old facilities and supplying smart-farm facilities that reduce agricultural management costs such as heating costs.

  • Recently, the regulations of the Local and Global for a variety of air pollution prevention has been enhanced by the steep rise in fuel oil prices. So, the appearance of Gas Fuelled Ships became necessary. In this study, we configured a regasification system which uses Eglycol water as a heating medium to evaporate before being supply fuel to the DF engine, then we analysed the system properties according to the Eglycol water mixing ratio. The results were as follows. When pressure, temperature, and flux of natural gas(NG) which are supplied to DF engines are uniformly kept, the higher mixing ratio of Eglycol is, the lower mixing specific heat of Eglycol water. And the cycle flux and electric power were 1.65 and 1.54 times more required. respectively, than water was used as the heating medium. Basic variables including mass flux according to the mixing ratio of Eglycol water, required electric power of operating fluid pumps, the temperature of natural gas which is supplied to the engine, and the heat exchanger's capacity were drawn from the gotten results.

A Study on the Thermal Comfort Zone and Energy Use of Radiant Floor Heating by Residential Style and Clothing Level (생활특성과 착의량에 따른 바닥복사난방 공간의 열쾌적 범위 및 에너지 사용량에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the thermal comfort range according to the residential style and clothing level at radiant floor heating space, and compare the annual energy consumption and energy cost for each condition. Lower neutral point temperature has been stood for floor sitting style than chair sitting style, which appears that the thermal sensation was affected by local heat transfer between floor surface and the human body. The result of research indicates that neutral point temperature was in inverse proportion with the clothing level. It is interpreted that the increasing of clothing level results decrement of heat loss from human body, and is available to achieve same thermal comfort at lower room temperature. It was analyzed that the floor sitting style is more economical residential style than the chair sitting style, because the energy consumption of the floor sitting style is saved by 6.0% in average to compare with that of the chair sitting style. It is analyzed that energy consumption has been decreased by 13.5% with the clothing level of 1.2 Clo than with that of 1.0 Clo, and decreased by 18.0% than with that of 0.8 Clo, which explains that the energy saving can be achieved with the variation in life habit to increase the clothing level.

Development of Short-term Heat Demand Forecasting Model using Real-time Demand Information from Calorimeters (실시간 열량계 정보를 활용한 단기 열 수요 예측 모델 개발에 관한 연구)

  • District heating system supplies heat from low-cost high-efficiency heat production facilities to heat demand areas through a heat pipe network. For efficient heat supply system operation, it is important to accurately predict the heat demand within the region and optimize the heat production plan accordingly. In this study, a heat demand forecasting model is proposed considering real-time calorimeter information from local heat demands. Previous models considered ambient temperature and heat demand history data to predict future heat demands. To improve forecast accuracy, the proposed heat demand forecast model added big data from real-time calorimeters installed in the heat demands within the target region. By employing calorimeter information directly in the model, it is expected that the proposed forecast model is to reflect heat use pattern of each demand. Computational experiemtns based on the actual heat demand data shows that the forecast accuracy of the proposed model improved when the calorimeter big data is reflected.

Changes of Physical Characteristics of Cooked Rice by Pressure Cooking (가압취반시(加壓炊飯時) 미반(米飯)의 물성변화(物性變化)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This study was carried out in order to provide the basic data necessary to develop the effective and desirable cooking method on large scale for investigating the physical characteristics of cooked rices and studying optimum cooking conditions by pressure in kettle cooking rices. Milyang-15, local Japonica type and Milyang-23, high yielding Indica type major varieties cultivated in Korea were used as cooking sample after polishing 70% and 90% respectively, and the results obtained are summarized as follows. 1. The average moisture content of cooked rice by open kettle and pressure kettle method in typical households were 65.17% and 64.52%, respectively. 2. In water absorption capacity of rice grain Milyang-23 was 4.5% higher than Milyang-15, and maximum water content after absorption in Milyang-23 was 29.14%. 3. The expansion volume of cooked rice was changed proportionally by water absorption, heating temperature and time, and maximum expansion volume of cooked rice was 3.2 times greater than rice grain. 4. The gelatinization degree of cooked rice intensively concerning in hardness of rice grain was increased as water-to-rice ratio, heating temperature and time increased, and it was 0.44 in Milyang-23 and 0.64 in Milyang-15 under the optimum cooking conditions as 160% water-to-rice ratio, $0.2kg/cm^2$ cooking pressure and 25 minutes cooking time. 5. The hardness of cooked rice was decreased as water-to-rice ratio, heating temperature and time increased, and it showed 2.35kg/wt in 90% polished Milyang-23 and 2.0kg/wt in 90 polished Milyang-15 under optimum cooking conditions. For maintaining the same level of hardness of cooking rice Milyang-23 required 25% much more water than Milyang-15. 6. The elasticity of cooked rice was changed proportionally by water-to-rice ratio, heating temperature and time, and it appeared 19.2mm and 15.7mm in 90% polished Milyang-15 and Milyang-23 respectively. 7. The gumminess of cooked rice was decreased as water-to-rice ratio, heating temperature and time increased, and it showed 60 and 73 in 90% polished Milyang-23 and Milyang-15, respectively. 8. The optimum cooking time on differerent pressure in kettle took 25 minutes at $0.2kg/cm^2$, 20 minutes at $0.4kg/cm^2$, 15 minutes at $0.6kg/cm^2$, and 10 minutes at $0.8kg/cm^2$.

Growth and Yield of Sedum sarmentosum as Affected by Planting Density in Cultivation System Using a Rice Nursery Tray (벼 육묘상자를 이용한 돌나물 재배에서 삽식밀도에 따른 생육 및 수량)

  • To establish a cultivation system of Sedum sarmentosum using a rice nursery tray ($30{\times}60{\times}3\;cm$) in non-heating plastic film house, cuttings of two local strains (Wanju and Keumsan) were prepared and planted at different planting densities (40, 60 and 80 cuttings per tray) on September 7th, and subsequent growth and yield at pre- and post-winter season were investigated. When pre-wintering growth were measured at 60 days after planting, high planting density (80 cuttings/tray) decreased leaf length and lateral shoot number per plant compared to 40 cuttings/tray. When post-wintering growth were measured on April 20th, no significant growth differences as affected by planting density were observed in Keumsan strain, while decreased stem diameter, node number and leaf number were observed in Wanju strain planted at 80 cuttings/tray compared to 40 cuttings/tray. Fresh and dry weights were not significantly different as affected by planting density, but those were significantly increased in Wanju strain compared to Keumsan strain. When regrowth characteristics followed by the first harvest were measured on June 5th, significantly increased stem number was observed at 80 cuttings/tray compared to 40 cuttings/ tray. Fresh and dry weight were significantly increased in Keumsan strain planted at 80 cuttings/tray compared to 40 cuttings/tray, and dry weight were increased in Wanju strain compared to Keumsan strain. Wanju strain showed higher shoot yield, thicker stem, shorter node and larger leaf, and non-succulent stem under high planting density compared to Keumsan strain. Accordingly, the optimum density was 40 cuttings per tray, and Wanju strain was adequate for the cultivation system using a rice nursery tray.

Source Identification and Trends in Atmospheric Particulate-bound Mercury at Seoul and Baengnyeong, South Korea (서울과 백령도의 대기 중 입자상 수은의 분포 특성 및 발생원 추정연구)

  • $PM_{2.5}$-bound mercury (PBM) was monitored at weekly intervals for three years (from 2014 to 2016) at an urban (Seoul) and rural site (Baengnyeong) in South Korea. The average PBM concentrations in $PM_{2.5}$ samples over the entire sampling period were $12{\pm}11pg/m^3$ and $36{\pm}34pg/m^3$ for Baengnyeong and Seoul, respectively. Seasonal differences were pronounced, with concentrations being highest in winter due to local meteorological conditions (high gas-particle coefficient due to low temperature and low mixing layer height in winter) as well as seasonal factors, such as coal combustion for heating purposes in China. In Baengnyeong, the significant positive correlation of PBM with $PM_{2.5}$, air pollutants, and heavy metals suggested that coal combustion in China might be the most important source of ambient mercury in Korea. In winter, no correlation of PBM with $PM_{2.5}$, air pollutants, and heavy metals was seen in Seoul. Furthermore, Seoul showed higher $PBM/PM_{2.5}$ and $Pb/PM_{2.5}$ ratios in winter due to the strong atmospheric oxidation-reduction reaction conditions as well as local and regional PBM sources. We conclude that immediate attention must be given to addressing PBM levels in Korea, including considering it as a key component of future air quality monitoring activities and mitigation measures.

  • To predict accurately the thermal hydraulic behavior of light water reactors during normal or abnormal operation, the accurate estimation of the void distribution is required. Up to date, many techniques for predicting void fraction of two-phase flow systems have been suggested. Among these techniques, the drift-flux model is widely used because of its exact calculation ability and simplicity. However, to get more accurate prediction of void fraction using drift-flux model, slip and flow regime effects must be considered more properly In the drift-flux method, these two effects are accounted for by two drift-flux parameters ; $C_{o}$ and (equation omitted). At earlier stage, $C_{o}$ is measured in a circular tube. In this study, $C_{o}$ is experimentally determined by measuring local void fraction and vapor velocity distribution in a rectangular subchannel having 4 heating rods which simulates nuclear subchannels. The measurements are peformed with two-electrical conductivity probes which are known to be adequate for measuring local parameters. The experiments are performed at low flow rate and the system pressure less than 3 atmo spheric pressure. In this experiment, (equation omitted), is not measured, but quoted from well-known empirical correlation to formulate $C_{o}$. Finally, $C_{o}$ is expressed as a function of channel averaged void fraction. fraction.

Effect of Induction Heat Bending Process on the Properties of ASME SA106 Gr. C Carbon Steel Pipes

  • Recently, the bending process is greatly applied to fabricate the pipe line. Bending process can reduce welding joints and then decrease the number of inspection. Thus, the maintenance cost will be reduced. Induction heat bending process is composed of bending deformation by repeated local heat and cooling. By this thermal process, corrosion properties and microstructure can be affected. This work focused on the effect of induction heating bending process on the properties of ASME SA106 Gr. C low carbon steel pipes. Microstructure analysis, hardness measurements, and immersion corrosion test were performed for base metal and bended area including extrados, intrados, crown up, and down parts. Microstructure was analyzed using an optical microscope and SEM. Hardness was measured using a Rockwell B scale. Induction heat bending process has influenced upon the size and distribution of ferrite and pearlite phases which were transformed into finer structure than those of base metal. Even though the fine microstructure, every bent area showed a little lower hardness than that of base metal. It is considered that softening by the bending process may be arisen. Except of I2, intrados area, the others showed a similar corrosion rate to that of base metal. But even relatively high rate of intrados area was very low and acceptable. Therefore, it is judged that induction heat bending process didn't affect boric acid corrosion behaviour of carbon steel.

Effects of Induction Heat Bending Process on Microstructure and Corrosion Properties of ASME SA312 Gr.TP304 Stainless Steel Pipes

  • The usage of bending products recently have increased since many industries such as automobile, aerospace, shipbuilding, and chemical plants need the application of pipings. Bending process is one of the inevitable steps to fabricate the facilities. Induction heat bending is composed of compressive bending process by local heating and cooling. This work focused on the effect of induction heat bending process on the properties of ASME SA312 Gr. TP304 stainless steel pipes. Tests were performed for base metal and bended area including extrados, intrados, crown up, and down parts. Microstructure was analyzed using an optical microscope and SEM. In order to determine intergranular corrosion resistance, Double Loop Electrochemical Potentiokinetic Reactivation (DL-EPR) test and ASTM A262 practice A and C tests were done. Every specimen revealed non-metallic inclusion free under the criteria of 1.5i of the standard and the induction heat bending process did not affect the non-metallic inclusion in the alloys. Also, all the bended specimens had finer grain size than ASTM grain size number 5 corresponding to the grain sizes of the base metal and thus the grain size of the pipe bended by induction heat bending process is acceptable. Hardness of transition start, bend, and transition end areas of ASME SA312 TP304 stainless steel was a little higher than that of base metal. Intergranular corrosion behavior was determined by ASTM A262 practice A and C and DL-EPR test, and respectively step structure, corrosion rate under 0.3 mm/y, and Degree of Sensitization (DOS) of 0.001~0.075% were obtained. That is, the induction heat bending process didn't affect the intergranular corrosion behavior of ASME SA312 TP304 stainless steel.
