  • Computational simulation has been performed to design optimally the filtration system for IGCC pilot plant. It was analyzed how the different inflow pattern influences the flow field and the particle behavior in a filter vessel. The particle loading onto the filter surface lowers significantly and decreases dramatically with particle size when the dusty gas flows into the filter vessel with a shroud tube through a tangential inlet setup tangentially on the vessel outer wall. However, the particle loading is considerably high when the dusty gas enters the filter vessel through a normal inlet setup vertically on the vessel top wall, and the decrease of the particle loading with particle size is not steeper compared with the tangential inflow pattern.

  • This paper presents the investigation of dynamic behavior of a single pile in dry sand based on 1g shaking table tests. The natural frequency of soil-pile system was measured, and then a range of loading frequency was determined based on the natural frequency. Additionally, the studies were performed by controlling loading accelerations, pile head mass and connectivity conditions between pile and cap. Based on the results obtained, relatively larger pile head displacement and bending moment occur when the loading frequency is larger than the natural frequency of soil-pile system. However, the slope of the p-y curve is smaller in the similar loading frequency. Also, it was found that inertia force like input acceleration and pile head mass, and relation of the natural frequency of soil-pile system and input frequency have a great influence on the slope of dynamic p-y curve, while pile head conditions don't.

  • Wave induced vibrations increase the fatigue and extreme loading, but this is normally neglected in design. The industry view on this is changing. Wave induced vibrations are often divided into springing and whipping, and their relative contribution to fatigue and extreme loading varies depending on ship design. When it comes to displacement vessels, the contribution from whipping on fatigue and extreme loading is particularly high for certain container vessels. A large modern design container vessel with high bow flare angle and high service speed has been considered. The container vessel was equipped with a hull monitoring system from a recognized supplier of HMON systems. The vessel has been operating between Asia and Europe for a few years and valuable data has been collected. Also model tests have been carried out of this vessel to investigate fatigue and extreme loading, but model tests are often limited to head seas. For the full scale measurements, the correlation between stress data and wind data has been investigated. The wave and vibration damage are shown versus heading and Beaufort strength to indicate general trends. The wind data has also been compared to North Atlantic design environment. Even though it has been shown that the encountered wind data has been much less severe than in North Atlantic, the extreme loading defined by IACS URS11 is significantly exceeded when whipping is included. If whipping may contribute to collapse, then proper seamanship may be useful in order to limit the extreme loading. The vibration damage is also observed to be high from head to beam seas, and even present in stern seas, but fatigue damage in general is low on this East Asia to Europe trade.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the priority of the front-loading factors in the design stage of the automotive parts development process in order to efficiently and effectively respond to the demands of the car maker (customer). Front-loading is defined as a strategy in order to improve development performance by shifting the identification and solving of design problems to earlier phases of a product development process. Two approaches of the front-loading are project-to-project knowledge transfer and rapid problem solving. For the study, a survey was conducted on the R&D department in the automobile parts company and analyzed by AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. The result of the survey shows the cost savings is the highest weight in terms of front-loading effect and in terms of front-loading factors, it gives priorities as "the problems of past project" first, "Design Review" second, "CAE (Computer Aided Engineering)" third, "FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)" fourth, "benchmarking" and SR (Sourcing of Requirements). The results of the study will be helpful to provide practical value for improving product design of component development.

  • The aims of this study are the characterization of runoff from nonpoint source, the analysis of the pollutant loads and an establishment of a management plan for nonpoint source of Okcheon. For this purpose the basin of the stream So-okcheon was selected to the investigated. During the period from May 29 to July 21 in 2003, the water automatic sampler system has been installed in Okkagkyo and parameters such as SS, COD, TOC, TP and TN were analyzed. The pollutants of nonpoint source seem to be washed out along the stream water in the beginning of rainfall, remain in water and cause the stream pollution. The runoffs during heavy rainfall, especially, much higher concentration of SS than those during dry period. With respect to the annual loading of pollutants of the nonpoint source, the COD was 124 ton/yr, TOC 396 ton/yr, TN 1,429 ton/yr and TP 4.2 ton/yr in the year 2002. With respect to the pollutants loading of the nonpoint source, the COD was 375 ton/yr(95% of the total COD loading of 394 ton/yr), TOC 844 ton/yr(96% of the tatal TOC loading of 876 ton/yr), TN 1,985 ton/yr(96% of the total TN loading of 2,062 ton/yr) and TP 37.1 ton/yr(92% of the total TP loading of 40.3 ton/yr) in the year 2003.

  • Comprehensive results from cyclic plate loading at a diameter of 300 mm supported by layers of geocell are presented. The plate load tests were performed in a test pit measuring $2000{\times}2000mm$ in plane and 700 mm in depth. To simulate half and full traffic loadings, fifteen loading and unloading cycles were applied to the loading plate with amplitudes of 400 and 800 kPa. The optimum embedded depth of the first layer of geocell beneath the loading plate and the optimum vertical spacing of geocell layers, based on plate settlement, are both approximately 0.2 times loading plate diameter. The results show that installation of the geocell layers in the foundation bed, increase the resilient behavior in addition to reduction of accumulated plastic and total settlement of pavement system. Efficiency of geocell reinforcement was decreased by increasing the number of the geocell layers for all applied stress levels and number of cycles of applied loading. The results of the testing reveal the ability of the multiple layers of geocell reinforcement to 'shakedown' to a fully resilient behavior after a period of plastic settlement except when there is little or no reinforcement and the applied cyclic pressure are large. When shakedown response is observed, then both the accumulated plastic settlement prior to a steady-state response being obtained and the resilient settlements thereafter are reduced. The use of four layers of geocell respectively decreases the total and residual plastic settlements about 53% and 63% and increases the resilient settlement 145% compared with the unreinforced case. The inclusion of the geocell layers also reduces the vertical stress transferred down through the pavement by distributing the load over a wider area. For example, at the end of the load cycle of the applied pressure of 800 kPa, the transferred pressure at the depth of 510 mm is reduced about 21.4%, 43.9%, 56.1% for the reinforced bases with one, two, and three layers of geocell, respectively, compared to the stress in the unreinforced bed.

  • Due to the scarcity of extortionate experimental data, fatigue failure of the reinforced concrete (RC) element might be achieved economically adopting nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis as an alternative approach. However, conventional implicit dynamic analysis is expensive, quasi-static method overlooks interaction effects and inertia, direct cyclic analysis computes stabilized responses. Apart from this, explicit dynamic analysis may provide a numerical operating system for factual long-term responses. The study explores the fatigue behavior based on a simplified explicit dynamic solution employing nonlinear time domain analysis. Among fourteen RC beams, one beam is selected to validate under static loading, one under fatigue with the experimental study and other twelve to check the detail fatigue behavior. The SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis has been carried out to pinpoint the detail scenario in the adoption of numerical approach as an alternative to the experimental study. Excellent agreement of FE and experimental results is seen. The 3D nonlinear RC beam model at service fatigue limits is truthful to be used as an expedient contrivance to envisage the precise fatigue behavior. The simplified analysis approach for RC beam under fatigue offers savings in computation to predict responses providing acceptable accuracy rather than the complicated laboratory investigation. At higher frequency, the flexural failure occurs a bit earlier gradually compared to the repeated loading case of lower frequency. The deflection increases by 6%-10% at the end of first cycle for beams with increasing frequency of cyclic loading. However, at the end of fatigue loading, greater deflection occur earlier for higher load range because of more rapid stiffness degradation. For higher frequency, a slight boost in concrete compressive strains at an initial stage of loading has been seen indicating somewhat stepper increment. Stiffness degradation in larger loading cycle at same duration escalates the upsurge of the rate of strain in case of higher frequency.

  • In this paper, we examined the problem of the structural stability according to the patch load of a rectangular plate that reflects the material properties of A6082-T6 is used primarily for marine plant structure. it applied to the four patch loading shapes, the effect of aspect ratio, a boundary condition and calculated the critical elastic buckling load. Calculating the critical elastic buckling load, During the eigenvalue buckling analysis it is applied to the shell181 as 4 node shell element. when the plate subjected to patch loading compare to the plate under a uniform axial compression load, it is possible observed to occur the different elastic buckling behaviour and it could be confirmed that it is affected significantly on a variable position and type of loadings, such as the effect of the aspect ratio. Also, Critical elastic buckling load according to th patch loading type in simply supported rectangular plate a/b=1.0, ${\gamma}b$=200mm are calculated 67%(Loading type I), 119 %(Loading type II), 76 %(Loading type III), 160 %(Loading type IV), respectively. Loading type I and III could be determined with the strong elastic buckling behavior much more than Loading type II and IV.

  • The demand for Less than Container Load (LCL) has been on the rise due to the growing need for various small-scale production items and the expansion of the e-commerce market. Consequently, more companies in the International Freight Forwarder are now handling LCL. Given the variety in cargo sizes and the diverse interests of stakeholders, there's a growing need for a container loading algorithm that optimizes space efficiency. However, due to the nature of the current situation in which a cargo loading plan is established in advance and delivered to the Container Freight Station (CFS), there is a limitation that variables that can be identified at industrial sites cannot be reflected in the loading plan. Therefore, this study proposes a container loading methodology that makes it easy to modify the loading plan at industrial sites. By allowing the characteristics of cargo and the status of the container to be considered, the requirements of the industrial site were reflected, and the three-dimensional space was manipulated into a two-dimensional planar layer to establish a loading plan to reduce time complexity. Through the methodology presented in this study, it is possible to increase the consistency of the quality of the container loading methodology and contribute to the automation of the loading plan.
