This study compares two prominent design provisions, National Design Specification (NDS) and Eurocode 5, on load-carrying capacity calculations and failure analysis for mortise-tenon joints. Design procedures of double-shear connection from both provisions were used to calculate load-carrying capacity of mortise-tenon joints with eight different bolt sizes. From this calculation, the result was validated using finite element analysis and failure criteria models. Although both provisions share similar failure modes, their distinct calculation methods significantly influence the design load-carrying capacity values. Notably, Eurocode 5 predicts a 6% higher design load-carrying capacity for mortise-tenon joints with varying bolt diameters under horizontal loads and 14% higher under vertical loads compared to NDS. However, the results from failure criteria models indicate that NDS closely aligns with the actual load-carrying capacity. This indicates that Eurocode 5 presents a less conservative design and potentially requires fewer fasteners in the final timber connection design. This evaluation initiates the potential for the development of a wider range of timber connections, including mortise-tenon joints with wooden pegs.
In thrust bearings, the thrust collar and bearing surface need to be parallel to each other to ensure that all pads share the same load. In rotating machines, the shaft system cannot achieve perfect alignment. Misalignment of the thrust collar results in some pads supporting a higher load than others and excessive loads being placed on some pads. Consequently, high loads and high temperatures may occur in the bearing. Thus, in this study, we aim to analytically evaluate the performance of a misaligned non-equalizing direct lubricated tilting pad thrust bearing. We define the oil film thickness of the misaligned thrust bearing using the Byrant angle. Additionally, we calculate the pressure distribution and temperature distribution of the thrust bearing using the generalized Reynolds equation and energy equation. The design limit of the thrust bearing is defined by the load and temperature. Therefore, we evaluate the allowable misalignment angle as the limit of the maximum load and temperature. The analysis results demonstrate that an increase in the speed and load corresponds to a smaller allowable misalignment angle. However, as this is not the same for all thrust bearings, evaluating the allowable misalignment angle at each thrust bearing is essential.
There is a case where the output of renewable energy(RE) is curtailed due to an increase in the share of RE. Typically, wind power(WP) is curtailed due to oversupply and low load at midnight. However there is a case where the output of WP is limited during daytime due to the increase in share of photovoltaic(PV). In current electricity market, as the share of PV is increased, the curtailments of WP will be increased further, which will add to the difficulties of wind farm operators. In this paper, we propose a method to distribute the power limit of RE according to the criterion based on the priority constraint of the energy source which is difficult to operate the power system.
In this paper, a grid connected microgrid with multiple inverter-based distributed generators (DGs) is considered. DG in FFC mode regulates the microgrid as a controllable load from the utility point of view as long as its output is within the capacity limit. The transition mode causes a change in frequency of microgrid due to the loss of power transferred between main grid and microgrid. Frequency deviation from the nominal value can exceed the limit if the loss of power is large enough. This paper presents a coordinated control method for inverter-based DGs so that the microgrid is always regulated as a constant load from the utility viewpoint during grid connected mode, and the frequency deviation in the transition mode is minimized. DGs can share the load by changing their control modes between UPC and FFC and stabilize microgrid during transition.
For the high power demand and N+1 redundancy, this paper presents the digital load share (LS) controller design and the implementation of paralleled phase-shifted full-bridge converters (PSFBC) used in distributed power systems. By adopting the digital control strategy, separately used ICs for PSFBC and LS control functions in analog systems can be merged into a cost-effective digital controller. To compensate and stabilize both PSFBC and LS loops with the direct digital design approaches, small-signal model of the system is derived in discrete-time domain. The steady-state and dynamic load sharing performances are also investigated. Experimental results from two 1.2 kW paralleled PSFBC modules are shown to verify the proposed work.

In the conventional method, two CTs have been used to share the load current equally with two converters. A new simle method to find out the current difference between two converters using only one CT as a ZCT is suggested. Two experimental prototype converters were designed and implemented for the evaluation of the load current sharing. The results of experiment show that the newly proposed ZCT method using only one CT could make a good load current sharing than the conventional method required two CT when operating two converters in parallel.

Microgrids are new distribution level power networks that consist of various electronically-interlaced generators and sensitive loads. The important control object of Microgrids is to supply reliable and high-quality power even during the faults or loss of mains(islanding) cases. This paper presents power control methods to coordinate multiple distributed generators(DGs) against abnormal cases such as islanding and load power variations. Using speed-droop and voltage-droop characteristics, multiple distributed generators can share the load power based on locally measured signals without any communications between them. This paper adopts the droop controllers for multiple DG control and improved them by considering the generation speed of distribution level generators. Dynamic response of the proposed control scheme has been investigated under severe operation cases such as islanding and abrupt load changes through PSCAD/EMTDC simulations.
In this study the cylinder liner deformation which is one of the most influencing factors in a diesel engine oil consumption was performed by the finite element analysis on the basic designed structure consisting of the cylinder block, head and liners under the conditions of assembly, thermal and gas loads. Compared with a large number of other cylinder blocks showing remarkable harmonic orders of the liner distortion, results are excellent. Namely. the higher harmonic order amplitudes of the radial liner deformation amount to 1 ~ 2㎛ maximally. The main reason lies in the relatively large wall thickness of the liner which amounts to 8.2% of the bore diameter. Besides, a very stiff and symmetrical cylinder block design in combination with a bolt force introduction approximately 1.5mm below the block top deck have a further share on these results. Therefore excellent low oil consumption can be expected.

In this paper, Power Generator modeling for LNG ship has been performed and monitoring system has been developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The principal component of Power Generator are engine part(Diesel Engine, Turbine Engine) which provides the mechanical power and synchronous generator which convert the mechanical power into electrical power. Also, load sharing between paralleled generators has been performed to share a total load that exceeds the capacity of a single generator and designated ship lumped load simulations have been carried out. A validity of these systems has been verified by comparison between simulation results and estimated result from the designated lumped load.

A single fiber cut can potentially influence a total of 1.6 Tbps of traffic and is surprisingly frequent and results in significant loss of traffic. The survivability as we as the resource utilization of the connection in optical networks is important. Existing protection mechanisms to rapidly recover the failures allocate the backup path just SRLG-disjointed with working path. Those did not consider the unbalanced resource share of backup paths. The backup paths can be centralized on the specific link so that the idle resource is not used. As a result, as those do not efficiently use the resource the whole resource utilization is not so good. So we propose the mechanism to enhance the resources utilization as settling down the unbalanced resource share. Our purpose is to improve the link utilization as distributing the maximum link load.
