  • In this paper, new vehicular load model is developed for reliability-based bridge design code. Rational load model and statistical properties of loads are important for developing reliability-based design code. In the previous paper, truck weight data collected at eight locations using WIM or BWIM system are analyzed to calculate the maximum truck weights for specified bridge lifetime. Probability distributions of upper 20% total truck weight are assumed as Extreme Type I (Gumbel Distribution) and 100 years maximum weights are estimated by linear regression. In this study, effects of multiple presence of trucks are analyzed. Probability of multiple presence of trucks are estimated and corresponding multiple truck weights are calculated using the same probability distribution function as in the previous paper. New vehicular live load model are proposed for span length from 10 m to 200 m. New model is compared with current Korean model and various load models of other countries.

  • This paper proposes a mechanical model to describe the load-deformation responses of the reinforced concrete plate members under service load state. An Analytical method is introduced on the basis of the rotating crack model which considers equilibrium, compatibility conditions, load-strain relationship of cracked member, and constitutive law for materials. The tension stiffening effect in reinforced concrete structures is taken into account by the average tensile stress-strain relationship from the load-strain relationship for the cracked member and the constitutive law for material. The strain compatibility is used to find out the crack direction because the crack direction is an unknown variable in the equilibrium and compatibility conditions. The proposed theory is verified by the numerous experimental data such as the crack direction, moment-steel strain relationship, moment-crack width relationship. The present paper can provide some basis for the provision of the definition of serviceability for plate structures of which reinforcements are deviated from the principal stresses, because the present code defines the serviceability by the deflection, crack control, vibration and fatigue basically for the skeletal members. The proposed theory is applicable to predict the service load state behavior of a variety of reinforced concrete plate structures such as skew slab bridges, the deck of skew girder bridges.

  • Short term load forecasting for electric power demand is essential for stable power system operation and efficient power market operation. High accuracy of the short term load forecasting can keep the power system more stable and save the power market operation cost. We propose an optimal coefficient selection method for exponential smoothing model in short term load forecasting on weekdays. In order to find the optimal coefficient of exponential smoothing model, load forecasting errors are minimized for actual electric load demand data of last three years. The proposed method are verified by case studies for last three years from 2009 to 2011. The results of case studies show that the average percentage errors of the proposed load forecasting method are improved comparing with errors of the previous methods.

  • Accurate midterm load forecasting is essential to preventive maintenance programs and reliable demand supply programs. This paper describes a midterm load forecasting method using autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model which has been widely used in time series forecasting due to its accuracy and predictability. The various ARIMA models are examined in order to find the optimal model having minimum error of the midterm load forecasting. The proposed method is applied to forecast 104-week load pattern using the historical data in Korea. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated by forecasting 104-week load from 2011 to 2012 by using historical data from 2002 to 2010.

  • Truck weight data are essential for road infrastructure design, maintenance and management. WIM (Weigh-In-Motion) system provides highway planners, researchers and officials with statistical data. Recently high speed WIM data also uses to support a vehicle weight regulation and enforcement activities. This paper aims at developing axle load estimating models with high speed WIM data collected from national highway. We also suggest a method to estimate axle load using simple regression model for WIM system. The model proposed by this paper, resulted in better axle load estimation in all class of vehicle than conventional model. The developed axle load estimating model will used for on-going or re-calibration procedures to ensure an adequate level of WIM system performance. This model can also be used for missing axle load data imputation in the future.

  • In this study, we discussed the application of Watershed model and Load Duration Curves (LDC) in Total Water Load Management System. The Flow Duration Curves (FDC) and the LDC were generated using the results of the daily HSPF model and analyzed on monthly or yearly flow duration variability, and non-point pollutant discharge loads by entire flow conditions. As a result of the calibration and verification of the HSPF model, both the flow and the water quality were appropriately simulated. The simulated values were used to generate the Flow Duration Curve and the Load Duration Curve, and then the excess rate by entire flow conditions was analyzed. The point and non-point pollutant discharge loads for entire flow conditions were calculated. It is possible to evaluate the variability of water quality in specific flow duration through the curves reflecting the flow duration variability and to confirm the characteristics of the pollutant source. For a more scientific Total Water Load Management System, it is necessary to switch from a current system to a system that can take into account the entire flow conditions. For this, the application of the watershed model and load duration curve is considered to be the best alternative.

  • Agricultural operations are performed in uneven environments by attaching an implement on the 3-point hitch of a tractor. A high load is thus placed on the 3-point hitch, and fatigue and failure of the hitch may occur during agricultural operations. In this study, a dynamic simulation model was developed to predict the load occurring on the eyebolt of a 3-point hitch, which is the main damaged component. The simulation model was developed and validated using agricultural data as simulation input and validation data. The dynamics model was developed using the specifications of a 78 kW class tractor. A measurement system was constructed to measure the simulation input and validation data. The simulation model was validated using a traction load on an eye bolt, which was measured during plow tillage operation. The measurement results showed that the average traction load on the left and right lower link and the top link were 8,099.97, 4,943.06, and 636.11 N, respectively. The simulation results and the measured traction load on the left eyebolt were respectively 610.30 and 597.15 N. The simulation results and measured traction load on the left eyebolt were respectively 1,179.78, and 1,145.06 N. The error between the simulation and measurement data was roughly 2% on the left eyebolt and 3% on the right eyebolt.

  • This paper is a study on the coupled load analysis using MSC/Nastran superelement method. After selecting the hunch vehicle, coupled load analysis is performed. From the results of coupled load analysis the loads and displacements on the major parts of satellite structure are calculated Based on the loads and displacements, the safety of satellite structure is judged. Coupled load analysis has been executed using MSC/Nastran DMAP code so far. Because DMAP code was very complicated and long in 1ength it was difficult to analyze and modify the DMAP code. To solve out these problems, coupled load analysis was executed using MSC/Nastran 2005 superelemnt method. At first, satellite FE-model was converted to the Craig-Bampton model using MSC/Nastran 2005 superelement method and verified Finally, coupled load analysis was performed using satellite Craig-Bampton model and launch vehicle FE-model and verified.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine, by the method of 3-dimentional finite element analysis. how infraocclusion affected the stress distribution in surrounding bone and osseointegrated prosthesis. The 3-dimentional finite element mandibular models were made, in which the first and second molars were removed and the two osseointegrated implants were placed in the first and second molar sites and implant supported fixed prostheses were constructed. Analysis of equivalent stress and displacement induced by strong occlusion or infraocclusion was performed under vertical or inclined distributed loads. The results were as follows; 1. Under vertical load of 50N or 500N, the model in which infraocclusion had not been allowed showed greater stress on implants and the supporting bone than on natural teeth. 2. In the model in which infraocclusion of $30{\mu}m$ had been allowed, implant-prosthesis on the molars had no contact with opposing teeth under vertical load of 50N, However with the same allowed infraocclusion and the model under vertical load of 500N, implant prosthesis on the second molar had contact with opposing teeth, and stress distribution occured properly on natural teeth and implants. 3. Under $45^{\circ}$ inclined load, the model in which infraocclusion had not been allowed showed greater stress on implants and the supporting bone than on natural teeth. There was greater stress in the case of $45^{\circ}$ inclined load than in the case of vertical load. 4. Under $45^{\circ}$ inclined load of 50N or 500N, the model in which infraocclusion of $30{\mu}m$, had been allowed showed no occlusal contact on the implants and occlusal contact on the natural teeth. 5. In partially edentulous cases with implant supported prosthesis, we can prevent excessive load on implants by allowing infraocclusion.

Effects of Distributed Load on the Static Behaviour of tile Parabolic Arches (분포하중이 포물선 아치의 정적 거동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of partially distributed loads on the static behavior of parabolic arches by using the elastic-plastic finite element model. For this purpose, the vertical, the radial, and the anti-symmetric load cases are considered, and the ratio of loading range and arch span is increased from 20% to 100%. Also, the elastic-visco-plastic analysis has been carried out to estimate the elapse time to reach the stable state of arches when the ultimate load obtained by the finite element analysis is applied. It is noted that the ultimate load carrying capacities of parabolic arches are 6.929 tf/$m^2$ for the radial load case, and 8.057 tf/$m^2$ for the vertical load case. On the other hand, the ultimate load is drastically reduced as 2.659 tf/$m^2$ for the anti-symmetric load case. It is also shown that the maximum ultimate load occurs at the full ranging distributed load, however, the minimum ultimate loads of the radial and vortical load cases are obtained by 2.336 tf/$m^2$, 2.256 tf/$m^2$, respectively, when the partially distributed load is applied at the 40% range of full arch span.
