Dynamic response of size-dependent porous functionally graded beams under thermal and moving load using a numerical approach

  • Based on differential quadrature method (DQM) and nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT), forced vibrations of a porous functionally graded (FG) scale-dependent beam in thermal environments have been investigated in this study. The nanobeam is assumed to be in contact with a moving point load. NSGT contains nonlocal stress field impacts together with the microstructure-dependent strains gradient impacts. The nano-size beam is constructed by functionally graded materials (FGMs) containing even and un-even pore dispersions within the material texture. The gradual material characteristics based upon pore effects have been characterized using refined power-law functions. Dynamical deflections of the nano-size beam have been calculated using DQM and Laplace transform technique. The prominence of temperature rise, nonlocal factor, strain gradient factor, travelling load speed, pore factor/distribution and elastic substrate on forced vibrational behaviors of nano-size beams have been explored.

  • A technique computing short-term load foadcasting is essential for monitoring and controlling power system operation. This paper shows the use of general exponential smoothing to develop an adaptive forecasting system based on observed value of hourly demand. Forecasts of hourly load with lead times of one to twenty-four hours are computed at hourly intervals throughout the week. Standard error for lead times of one to twenty-four hour range from three to four percent average load. Studies are planned to investigate the use of weather influence to increase forecast accuracy.

  • In-process diagnosis is essential to achieve predictive maintenance in industrial plants. An in- process diagnosis method was proposed for hydraulic servo systems, which was based upon leakage flow measurement. Leakage due to servovalve wear was analysed and modeled mathematically far computer simulation work. The key idea of diagnosis algorithm is that when monitoring signals, such as servovalve input and load displacement are in steady states, the return-line flow of hydraulic servo systems can be regarded as null-leakage of servovalve. Virtual experiments were performed to ensure effectiveness of the proposed diagnosis method.

  • Recently, the most wide-area blackout in North America, Canada and Europe had shown us indirectly the importance of Wide-Area Power System Protection and had influence on the direction of domestic electric power industry. After reorganization of the electric power industry in 2001, market incentives controls the power generation, transmission and distribution rather than stability of power grid, and moreover it produce bad results like inefficient facility management and too much competition. In addition, we can easily predict the massive loss of social and economic when the wide-area outage occurs by north direction load flow which is a pending problems of domestic power system and in a changed industry likes hi-tech manufacture and information technology industries. This paper introduces the development of infra systems for prevent wide-area blackout in situations of the power system operations.

  • Since existing nonintrusive appliance load monitoring (NIALM) studies assume that voltage fluctuations are negligible for load identification, and do not affect the identification results, the power factor or harmonic signals associated with voltage are generally not considered parameters for load identification, which limits the application of NIALM in the Smart Home sector. Experiments in this paper indicate that the parameters related to voltage and the characteristics of harmonics should be used to improve the accuracy and reliability of the load monitoring system. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an improved NIALM method that can efficiently analyze the types of household appliances and electrical energy usage in a home network environment. The proposed method is able to analyze the energy usage pattern by analyzing operation characteristics inherent to household appliances using harmonic characteristics of some household appliances as recognition parameters. Through the proposed method, we expect to be able to provide services to the smart grid electric power demand management market and increase the energy efficiency of home appliances actually operating in a home network.

The multiple access interference has a deep relationship with transmitted or received power The capacity of CDMA2000 1x system is considered to be limited by the forward link capacity Different rate data traffic requires different transmitted power and rate controlling enables the system utilize radio resource more efficiently. A very simple rate control algorithm for data calls in CDMA2000 1x system is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, by monitoring the total transmit power, we can simply adjust data rate to channel conditions and efficiently use radio resources. The proposed algorithm is easy to implement in power controlled CDMA systems.

  • Diesel engines have been widely used in ships and power plants because of its higher thermal efficiency, mobility and durability compared to other prime movers. Though these merits, diesel engine including main components are sometimes vibrated due to higher combustion pressure in cylinders. Especially torsional, axial and structural vibrations in propulsion shafting may be severely manifested by the malfunction of torsional and axial dampers and misfiring and unbalanced load in cylinder. The structural vibration of main body and turbocharger core hole are also occurred by the loosen top bracing and excess wear-out or failure of turbocharger's bearings. The marine diesel engine should be safely designed from these vibrations. This paper introduces experimental methods to develop the prototype of integrated vibration monitoring system for marine diesel engine.

Comparative Evaluation of Electric Power and LNG Load according to Floor level of Tower-Type Apartments (탑상형 아파트의 층별 전기와 가스 부하량 비교평가)

  • It is known that energy consumption in bottom floor of typical Korean-style apartment is the highest. Previous studies for energy consumption in accordance with floor level appear to be very limited due to the dependence on single energy variable such as electric power or LNG separately, based on past flat type of apartment. Acknowledging these constraints, an empirical study for a tower type emerged recently as new style of apartment in South Korea was conducted to demonstrate how a comprehensive evaluation for both electric power and LNG consumption can be used to assist in monitoring the total energy consumption in terms of floor specific settings. It was possible to identify that energy consumption in bottom floor is lesser than that of top floor, to the contrary, fact known from previous study. Also electric power consumption in top floor was identified as 15% higher than that of floor in the least. It is anticipated that this integrated utilization of electric power and LNG data would present more scientific and objective evidence for the energy load among floor level of tower type apartment by overcoming serious constraints suffered from the past single variable investigation. Ultimately, the result in this paper could be used as a valuable reference to providing priority for energy saving activities in top floor such as cool roof or green roof.

  • Recently, it is getting more and more important ensuring the integrity for the equipment degradation according to the increase of nuclear power plant operating period. In many equipment of the nuclear power plant, snubbers mainly installed in reactor coolant pumps, steam generators and piping protected the equipment and piping from the occurrence of transient dynamic loads such as the earthquake, thermal load during the plant operation. This report describes the function, regulation, inspection requirements and management status of the snubbers installed in domestic nuclear power plants.
