  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the moisture content and pellet mill type on the physical and chemical characteristics of Italian ryegrass (IRG) pellet. Moisture content of raw material significantly (p<0.05) affected IRG pellet formation. Moisture content at 25% was the best condition for IRG pellet formation in terms of shape, power load and temperature changes. The hardness of pellet was decreased when moisture content was increase. However, the hardness of pellet was not affected by pellet mill type. Moisture content at 30% dramatically (p<0.05) decreased the durability compared to moisture content at 25%. Dry matter content of IRG pellet was increased (p<0.05) after pelleting. Total count of microorganism was decreased in pellet due to pressure heat and moisture losses during the pelleting process. These results indicated that the proper moisture content of Italian ryegrass pelleting would be at 25%. In addition, Roll & flat die type would be more suitable than Ring die and Die & flat die type in IRG pelleting. Pelleting works would be beneficial for improving forage quality and long storage.

  • In this paper, design and implementation of the 94 GHz Gunn oscillator and the evaluation of the maximum power of the Gunn diode used in the oscillator are presented. The 94 GHz Gunn oscillator is used InP Gunn diode and designed employing a WR-10 waveguide. The designed oscillator is fabricated through machining and its performance is measured. The fabricated oscillator shows an oscillation frequency of 95 GHz, output power of 12.64 dBm, and phase noise of -92.7 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency. To evaluation the maximum power of the InP Gunn diode used in oscillator, the oscillator structure is modified to a structure having a diaphram. The height of thick diaphram which is used in the oscillator is varied. As a result, an oscillator has several different load impedances, which makes it possible to plot $G_L-V^2$ plot at the post plane. Using the $G_L-V^2$ plot, the maximum power of used Gunn diode including post is computed to be 16.8 dBm. Furthermore using the shorted and zero bias Gunn diode, the post loss used for DC biasing can be computed. Using the two losses, The maximum power of a InP Gunn diode is computed to be 18.55 dBm at 95 GHz. This result is close to a datasheet.

  • PURPOSE. This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of the implant-abutment connection design and diameter on the screw joint stability. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Regular and wide-diameter implant systems with three different joint connection designs: an external butt joint, a one-stage internal cone, and a two-stage internal cone were divided into seven groups (n=5, in each group). The initial removal torque values of the abutment screw were measured with a digital torque gauge. The postload removal torque values were measured after 100,000 cycles of a 150 N and a 10 Hz cyclic load had been applied. Subsequently, the rates of the initial and postload removal torque losses were calculated to evaluate the effect of the joint connection design and diameter on the screw joint stability. Each group was compared using Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test as post-hoc test (${\alpha}$=0.05). RESULTS. The postload removal torque value was high in the following order with regard to magnitude: two-stage internal cone, one-stage internal cone, and external butt joint systems. In the regular-diameter group, the external butt joint and one-stage internal cone systems showed lower postload removal torque loss rates than the two-stage internal cone system. In the wide-diameter group, the external butt joint system showed a lower loss rate than the one-stage internal cone and two-stage internal cone systems. In the two-stage internal cone system, the wide-diameter group showed a significantly lower loss rate than the regular-diameter group (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The results of this study showed that the external butt joint was more advantageous than the internal cone in terms of the postload removal torque loss. For the difference in the implant diameter, a wide diameter was more advantageous in terms of the torque loss rate.

  • Thirty six pre-weaned Barbari kids at 4 months age were reared on four rations computed using coarse cereal grains and by-products of pulses and oil seeds with Crude Protein (CP) and Total Digestible Nutrients (TDN) of 12 and 55% (Low protein Low energy); 12 and 60% (Low protein High energy); 14 and 55% (High protein Low energy); and 14 and 60% (High protein High energy), respectively. After 180 days on feed, male animals ($4{\times}5=20$) were slaughtered to study the effect of diet on carcass characteristics and meat quality. To asses the effect, if any, of such diet on product quality, meat balls were prepared and evaluated for quality changes when fresh as well as during storage ($-20{\pm}1^{\circ}C$). Feeding a ration with CP12 and TDN 60% (LH) to kids produced animals with highest slaughter weight (20.3 kg) yielding higher carcass weight and dressing percentage, lean (65.6%) and fat (6.6%) contents with low bone and trim losses. Although total variety meat yield was markedly higher in HL, the non-carcass fat deposition was relatively higher in LH carcasses. The water activity ($a_w$) of fresh goat meat ranged from 0.994-0.995 and total cholesterol 72.8-90.5 mg/100 g meat. The pH was high in HL and HH meat resulting in decreased ($p{\leq}0.05$) extract release volume (ERV). Meat balls were prepared using meat obtained from goats fed different rations (treatments) and stored at $-20{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. They were evaluated on day 0 and months 1, 2, 3, 4 for physicochemical, microbiological and organoleptic changes. Overall moisture (%), $a_w$, TBA number and pH value were 67.9, 0.987, 0.17, 6.6 respectively and were not affected by treatments except pH that was significantly ($p{\leq}0.01$) lower on LH. As the storage period advanced moisture, pH, $a_w$ and TBA number increased irrespective of treatments. Feeding various diets had no marked effect on microbial load of meat balls but with increasing storage period Standard Plate Count (SPC) and psychrotrophs declined ($p{\leq}0.01$). Treatment LL and LH produced meat balls with better flavour.

  • A large floating offshore wind-wave hybrid power generation system with an area of 150 m2 and four 3 MW class wind turbine generators was installed at each column top. In accordance with the wind turbine arrangement, the wake generated from upstream turbines can adversely affect the power performance and load characteristics of downstream turbines. Therefore, an optimal arrangement design, obtained through a detailed flow analysis focusing on wake interference, is necessary. In this study, to determine the power characteristics and annual energy production (AEP) of individual wind turbines, transient computational fluid dynamics, considering wind velocity variation (8 m/s, 11.7 m/s, 19 m/s, and 25 m/s), was conducted under different platform conditions ($0^{\circ}$, $22.5^{\circ}$, and $45^{\circ}$). The AEP was calculated using a Rayleigh distribution, depending on the wind turbine arrangement. In addition, we suggested an optimal arrangement design to minimize wake losses, based on the AEP.

  • This paper deseribes the desihn and the implementation of the Realtime Transport Protocol(RTP)/ Rdaltime Control Protocol(RTCP) (RFC 1889,1890) that is used to transmit the audio/video data to any destination and to feedback the Quality of Service (QoS) information of the received media data to the sender, in the teleconferencing systems proposed by ITU-T. These protocols are implemented with multi thead technique and run on top of UDP/IP-Multicast through the socket interface as the underlying protocol. The upper layer is impelmented such that in can be accessed by the H245 comference control protocol. The RTP packetizes the digitized audio/video data from the encoder info a fixed format, and multieast to the participants. The RTCP monitors RTP packets and extracts the QoS values from it such as round-trip delay, jiter and packet loss to form RTCP packets and non periokically sends them to the sender site. In this Paper, we also descritx the study of measurement and analysis for QoS factors that observed on performing teleconferencing system over Internet. The results from this experiment is indicate that RTT and Jitter value are acceptable even entwork load is high. However, it appears that packet loss rate is high in daytime and most losses periods have length one or two.

  • The thermal bridge occurring in a building influences its thermal performance and durability. The domestic typical multi-unit residential buildings suffer thermal losses resulting from thermal bridges of the balcony slab. To minimize the thermal loss between inside and outside of the balcony slab, thermal bridge breaker(TBB) systems have been developed and applied in building construction. Although thermal bridge breaker systems for reinforced concrete(RC) wall-slab joints can improve the thermal performance of a building, it is necessary to verify the structural performance of TBB systems whether they provide proper resistance for cyclic loading. In order to investigate the structural characteristics of TBB systems embedded in RC slabs, cyclic tests of wall-slab joints were performed by applying two reversed cycles at each up to 30 cycles. The test results show that the RC slabs embedding TBBS systems can present excellent structural performance and the maximum moment capacity, energy dissipation capacity and ductility of TBBs systems are enhanced compared to those of the typical RC slabs.

  • In the current work, a series of three-dimensional (3D) numerical modelling has been performed in order to study the effects of the relative locations of tunnels with respect to the position of pile tips which governs the behaviour of pre-existing, adjacent single piles. In the numerical analyses, several governing factors, such as tunnelling-induced pile head settlements, relative displacements, volume losses, axial pile forces, interface shear stresses and apparent factors of safety have been analysed. When the pile tips are inside the tunnelling influence zone, of which the pile tip location is considered with respect to the tunnel position, tunnelling-induced pile head settlements are larger than the ground surface settlements, resulting in tunnelling-induced tensile pile forces. On the contrary, when the pile tips are outside the influence zone, compressive pile forces associated with downward shear stresses at the upper part of the piles are developed. Based on computed load and displacement relation of the pile, the apparent factors of safety of the piles inside the tunnelling influence zone have been reduced by 36% in average. The shear transfer mechanism based on the relative tunnel locations has been analysed in great detail by considering tunnelling-induced pile forces, interface shear stresses and the apparent factors of safety.

  • Structural health monitoring for ships and offshore structures is important in various aspects. Ships and offshore structures are continuously exposed to various environmental conditions, such as waves, wind, and currents. In the event of an accident, immense economic losses, environmental pollution, and safety problems can occur, so it is necessary to detect structural damage or defects early. In this study, structural response data of multi-linked floating offshore structures under various wave load conditions was calculated by performing fluid-structure coupled analysis. Furthermore, the order reduction method with distortion base mode was applied to the structures for predicting the structural response by using the results of numerical analysis. The distortion base mode order reduction method can predict the structural response of a desired area with high accuracy, but prediction performance is affected by sensor arrangement. Optimization based on a genetic algorithm was performed to search for optimal sensor arrangement and improve the prediction performance of the distortion base mode-based reduced-order model. Consequently, a sensor arrangement that predicted the structural response with an error of about 84.0% less than the initial sensor arrangement was derived based on the root mean squared error, which is a prediction performance evaluation index. The computational cost was reduced by about 8 times compared to evaluating the prediction performance of reduced-order models for a total of 43,758 sensor arrangement combinations. and the expected performance was overturned to approximately 84.0% based on sensor placement, including the largest square root error.

  • Recently, changes in rainfall intensity and patterns have been causing increasing soil loss worldwide. As a result, the water ecosystem becomes worse and crops yield are reduced with soil loss and nutrient loss with it. Many studies have been proposed to estimate runoff and soil loss to predict or decrease non-point source pollution. Although the USLE has been used for many years in estimating soil losses, the USLE cannot reflect effects on soil loss of changes in rainfall intensity and patterns. The WEPP, physically based model, is capable of predicting soil loss and runoff using various rainfall intensity. In this study, the WEPP model was simulated for sediment yield, runoff and peak runoff using data of 5, 10, 30, 60 minute term rainfall, Huff's method and design rainfall. In case of rainfall interval of 5 minutes and 60 minutes, the sediment and runoff values decreased by 24% and 19%, respectively. The peak rate runoff values decreased by 16% when rainfall interval changed from 5 minutes to 60 minutes, indicating the peak rate runoff values are affected by rainfall intensity to some degrees. As a result of simulating using Huff's method, all values (sediment yield, runoff, peak runoff) were found to be the greatest at third quartile. According to the analysis under various design rainfall conditions (2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50, 100, 200, 300 years frequency), sediment yield, runoff, and peak runoff of 906.2%, 249.4% and 183.9% were estimated using 2 year to 300 year frequency rainfall data.
