Until now, the evaluation of prestressing force during the survice state has received limited attention. Only initial prestressing force is estimated by reading the pressure values of a hydraulic jack or by observing the initial elongation of tendons. In this study, the initial losses and time dependent losses of prestressing force have been monitored by installing 12 vibrating wire-type load cells at the part of P.C. box bridge of Gangbyun Riverside Highway. Also comparative study was made for measured prestressing losses and estimated values. 2-dimensional analysis was performed to see the trend of prestressing losses, and the results was compared with measured ones.
A mathematical model of a cable as a system of interacting wires with interwire friction taken into account is presented in this paper. The effect of friction forces and the interwire slip on the mechanical properties of tension cables is investigated. It is shown that the slip occurs due to the twisting and bending deformations of wires, and it occurs in the form of micro-slips at the contact patches and macro-slips along the cable. The latter slipping starts near the terminals and propagates towards the middle of the cable with the increase of tension, and its propagation is proportional to the load. As the result of dry friction, the load-elongation characteristics of the cable become quadratic. The energy losses during the extension are shown to be proportional to the cube of the load and in inverse proportion to the friction force, a result qualitatively similar to that for lap joints. Presented examples show that the model is in qualitative agreement with the known experimental data.
Complete load model of the substation not only should include the performances of the load components, but also should take into consideration the core losses of transformers, the line losses and the capacitor banks. In an actual distribution system, the control scheme of capacitor banks are so complex and is difficult to identify actual values for the reactive powers of capacitor banks. This research improves on this drawback by applying component-based modeling method including a capacitor banks in distribution systems. Initial differences between the model results and the actual values for reactive powers are later decreased by the proposed method.
This paper is concerned with the problems of accurate losses segregation in capacitor-run single phase motor. Segregation of losses in single phase induction motor is more complicated than that in three phase induction motor, because of the backward magnetic field component in the motor. Generally there are two methods for losses segregation of single phase induction motor. The one is relatively complicated method based on parameter estimation of single phase induction motor. By the way, the other one is simplified method based on IEEE Standard 114. All of the methods for the experimental determination of single phase induction motor losses are studied in this paper. Since the IEEE Standard is not possible to be applied for all type of single phase induction motors, we modified that method to apply for losses segregation of capacitor-run single phase induction motor as unifying the method based on parameter estimation.
In this paper, the rotor losses in high-speed permanent synchronous motor (PMSM) considering the operating condition are discussed. In order to maintain the mechanical integrity of a high-speed permanent magnet machine rotor intended for high-speed operation, the rotor assembly is often retained within a stainless steel or Carbon-Fiber/Epoxy sleeve. The sleeve is exposed to fields produced by the stator from either the slotting or the mmf harmonics that are not synchronous with rotor losses. On the basis of analytical field analysis, the rotor losses are analyzed. In particular, the no-load, rated with air-cooled, and forced water cooled conditions are considered. The results are validated extensively by comparison with non-linear finite element method (FEM).
The paper proposes a simple method to calculate the portion of real power losses of transmission lines allocated to individual loads. The method is implemented by defining loss distribution factors, and analyses the loads shares in the transmission line losses. The paper also performs calculation of sensitivities of the line losses with respect to load changes so as to be easily employed in on-line applications. Effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by computer simulations and it is estimated that the results can be used to compute the cost of one ancillary service under deregulated environment in electric power industries.
Traditionally electric power system are operated in such a way that the total fuel cost is minimized regardless of accounting for tie-lines transmission constraint and emissions produced. But tie-lines transmission and emissions constraint are very important issues in the operation and planning of electric power system. This paper presents the Two-Phase Neural Network(TPNN) to solve the Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem with tie-lines transmission and emissions constraint considering transmission losses. The transmission losses are obtained from the B-coefficient which approximate the system losses as s quadratic function of the real power generation. By applying the proposed algorithm to the test system, the usefulness of this algorithm is verified.
A model of a cable comprising interacting wires with dry friction forces at the interfaces is subjected to a quasi-static cyclic loading. The first cycle of this process, comprising of axial loading, unloading and reloading is investigated analytically. Explicit load-elongation relationships are obtained for all of the above phases of the cycle. An expression for the hysteretic losses is also obtained in an explicit form. It is shown that losses are proportional to the third power of the amplitude of the oscillating axial force, and are in inverse proportion to the interwire friction forces. The results obtained are used to introduce a model of a cable as a solid rod with an equivalent stiffness and damping properties of the rod material. It is shown that the stiffness of the equivalent rod is weakly nonlinear, whereas the viscous damping coefficient is proportional to the amplitude of the oscillation. Some numerical results illustrating the effect of cable parameters on the losses are given.
In this paper, analytical techniques for performance characteristics analysis of wind power generator with outer permanent magnet rotor are proposed. Furthermore, the proposed analytical techniques are validated by performance experiments of the manufactured generator. In this part, characteristic equations of losses such as copper loss, core loss are derived. Using the derived loss characteristic equations, electrical parameters obtained in [15] and d-q axes method, constant load and constant speed characteristics of wind power generator are analyzed. And then, to analyze performance of wind power system according to wind speed, d-q analysis model considering wind turbine characteristics is proposed. Finally, the obtained performance characteristics results are validated in comparison with those by experiments.

Recently, greater attention has been paid to the high-speed generator for its many merits, such as ease of installation, high efficiency and high power density. However, due to their high fundamental frequency, careful consideration needs to be given to both electromagnetic and mechanical design issues. This paper deals with the comparison of two types of permanent magnet high-speed machines. Specifically, the effect of the permanent magnet magnetization pattern on the rotor losses is investigated. On the basis of analytical field analysis and the 2-D finite element method, this paper predicts the flux harmonics and rotor losses under the no-load condition. It is shown that the Halbach magnetization is superior to parallel magnetization in terms of producing rotor losses.
