비선형 주.쌍대내점법을 이용한 부하공급능력의 산정에 기반한 전력수송능력의 평가 (Evaluation of Transfer Capability based on Load Supplying Capability Calculation using Nonlinear Primal-Dual Interior Point Method)

  • This paper presents a new methodology that can evaluate transfer capability of composite power systems from the adequacy point of view in power system planning stages. First of all, to evaluate practical load supplying capability, nonlinear optimization problems of maximum load supplying capability(MLSC) and economic load supplying capability(ELSC) are formulated and solved by nonlinear primal-dual interior point method. Here, physical constraints considered in the optimization problems are the limits of bus voltage, line overloading, and real & reactive power generation. Also, an evaluation method of transfer capability is presented based on margins calculated by the MLSC and ELSC. Especially, to evaluate transfer capability flexibly, simple indices such as expected MLSC, transfer capability margin, and power not supplied are respectively proposed by considering (N-1) line outage probability. Numerical results on IEEE RTS 24, IEEE 118, and IEEE 300 bus system show that the proposed algorithm is effective and useful for power system planning stages.

A load-bearing structural element with energy dissipation capability under harmonic excitation

  • This paper focuses on the design, fabrication, testing and analysis of a novel load-bearing element with energy dissipation capability. A single element comprises two von-Mises trusses (VMTs), which are sandwiched between two plates and connected to dashpots that stroke as the VMTs cycle between stable equilibrium states. The elements can be assembled in-plane to form a large plate-like structure or stacked with different properties in each layer for improved load-adaptability. Also introduced in the elements are pre-loaded springs (PLSs) that provide high initial stiffness and allow the element to carry a static load even when the VMTs cannot under harmonic disturbance input. Simulations of the system behavior using the Simscape environment show good overall correlation with test data. Good energy dissipation capability is observed over a frequency range from 0.1 Hz to 2 Hz. The test and simulation results show that a two layer prototype, having one soft VMT layer and one stiff VMT layer, can provide good energy dissipation over a decade of variation in harmonic load amplitude, while retaining the ability to carry static load due to the PLSs. The paper discusses how system design parameter changes affect the static load capability and the hysteresis behavior.

The new criterion on performance-based design and application to recent earthquake codes

  • "Performance-based design (PBD)" is based on designing a structure with choosing a performance target under design criteria to increase the structure's resistance against earthquake effect. The plastic hinge formation is determined as one of the fundamental data in finite elements nonlinear analysis to distinguish the condition of the structure where more significant potential damage could occur. If the number of plastic hinges in the structure is increased, the total horizontal load capability of the structure is increased, also. Theoretically, when the number of plastic hinges of the plane frame structure reaches "the degree of hyperstaticity plus one", the structure will reach the capability of the largest ultimate horizontal load. As the number of plastic hinges to be formed in the structure increases towards the theoretical plastic hinge number (TPHN), the total horizontal load capability of the structure increases, proportionally. In the previous studies of the authors, the features of examining the new performance criteria were revealed and it was formulated as follows "Increase the total number of plastic hinges to be formed in the structure to the number of theoretical plastic hinges as much as possible and keep the structure below its targeted performance with related codes". With this new performance criterion, it has been shown that the total lateral load capability of the building is higher than the total lateral load capability obtained with the traditional PBD method by the FEMA 440 and FEMA 356 design guides. In this study, PBD analysis results of structures with frame carrier systems are presented in the light of the Turkey Building Earthquake Code 2019. As a result of this study, it has been shown that the load capability of the structure in the examples of structures with frame carrier system increases by using this new performance criterion presented, compared to the results of the examination with the traditional PBD method in TBEC 2019.

굽힘 압전 복합재료 작동기의 하중 특성 (Load Capability in a Bending Piezoelectric Composite Actuator with a Thin Sandwiched PZT Plate)

  • This article describes the load capability of bending piezoelectric actuators with a thin sandwiched PZT plate in association with the stored elastic energy induced by an increased dome height after a curing process. The stored elastic energy within the actuators is obtained via a flexural mechanical bending test. The load capability is evaluated indirectly in terms of an actuating displacement with a load of mass at simply supported and fixed-free boundary conditions. Additionally, a free displacement under no load of mass is measured for a comparison with an actuating displacement. The results reveal that an actuator with a top layer having a high elastic modulus and a low coefficient of thermal expansion exhibits a better performance than the rest of actuators in terms of free displacement as well as actuating displacement due to the formation of the large stored elastic energy within the actuator system. When actuators are excited at AC voltage, the actuating displacement is rather higher than the free displacement for the same actuating conditions. In addition, the effect of PZT ceramic softening results in a slight reduction in the resonance frequency of each actuator as the applied electric field increases. It is thus suggested that the static and dynamic actuating characteristics of bending piezoelectric composite actuators with a thin sandwiched PZT plate should be simultaneously considered in controlling the performance.

전기자동차 충전부하의 이동성을 고려한 전송 전력량의 해석 및 개선 (Analysis and improvement of transfer power capability considering movable load charging of EV)

  • 본 논문은 전기자동차의 충전부하 이동성에 의한 전력시스템 선로에서의 전송전력에 대한 해석과 개선에 대한 내용을 제시하였다. 전기자동차는 화석연료의 고갈과 환경보호의 중요성이라는 측면에서 사용범위가 크게 늘어나고 있으며, 가까운 미래에 가솔린 연료를 사용하는 운송수단을 대체할 것으로 예상되고 있다. 기존의 예측된 고정 부하량에 기초한 전력시스템에서 전기자동차의 이동성 충전부하는 특정 지역에서 이동성 충전부하의 증가로 인한 전송선로에서의 전송전력 집중과 과부하의 문제를 발생시킨다. 이러한 현상의 해석을 위해 New England 시험계통을 부하특성을 기반으로 4개의 지역으로 분할하여 전기자동차 충전부하의 이동을 고려한 예상 시나리오를 가정하였다. 예상 시나리오에서는 표준이 되는 전기자동차의 충전용량을 고려하여 지역단위의 부하량을 최대 31%까지 증가하면서 선로에서의 전송전력 집중과 과부하 현상을 해석하였다. 이러한 선로에서의 과부하 문제에 대한 해결책으로 TCSC를 과부하가 발생한 선로에 직렬 연결하여 선로의 전송전력을 선로제한값 보다 작은 부하율 100% 이내의 값으로 직접 제어할 수 있도록 하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과로부터 전력시스템에 몇 개의 TCSC를 적용함으로써 전기자동차의 이동성 부하 충전에 의한 선로에서의 전송전력 문제를 효과적으로 그리고 경제적으로 해결할 수 있음을 보였다.

  • Supply Capability of the generator, if the maximum demand occurs, refers to the maximum power that can be stably supplied and it is possible to maintain stable power supply to be greater than actual load. However, unexpected power demand and reduction in supply Capability due to stop of unexpected generator in operation can temporarily make a big chaos in power system. In fact, due to a lack of power supply Capability in the country, enforced emergency load adjustment to the September 15, 2011, the circulation power outage has occurred in several cities. As the result, interrupted operation of the elevator and stopped hospital medical equipment led to a great deal of trouble to people's lives, causing a social problem. At that time, it was found that a failed frequency control because of smaller actual supply Capability than that of predicted. The difference was about 1,170 MW with Gas turbine power plant. By accurately calculating the generator supply capability, we can not only grasp the power reserve rate, but also correspond to the time of power supply instability.

지오그리드 매트리스기초에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Geogrid-Mattress Fundation)

  • Mattress foundations using geogrids are often used on soil foundations to increase the supporting capability of a mattress-soil foundation system, in which the mattress foundation trasmits a point load applied above to a wider area of the soil foundation underneath. To examine this load dispersion capability of the mattress foundation, model experiments were carried out on lab-floor. Expecially, the effect of the thickness of the mattress and the subgrade modulus of the soil foundation on load dispersion are considered. The load distribution and the tensile force generated on geogrid of the upper part of the mattress are examined in the paper.

  • Based on the concept of Load Supplying Capability of a transmission network, we provides an information concerning network adequacy. In particular this paper describes an algorithm regarding load supplying margin of transmission networks. And a different growth rate is assigned to each load point so that various demand characteristics can be taken into consideration at respective locations. In addition to this, in this paper, both generation and transmission equipment will be considered in determining the system capability. A 10 bus model system is used to demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm.

Effects of house load operation on PSA based on operational experiences in Korea

  • House load operation (HLO) occurs when the generator supplies power to the house load without triggering reactor trips during grid disturbances. In Korea, the HLO capability of optimized power reactor 1000 (OPR1000) plants has prevented several reactor trips. Operational experiences demonstrate the difference in the reactor trip incidence due to grid disturbances between OPR1000 plants and Westinghouse plants in Korea, attributable to the availability of the HLO capability. However, probabilistic safety assessments (PSAs) for OPR1000 plants have not considered their specific design features in the initiating event analyses. In an at-power PSA, the HLO capability can affect the initiating event frequencies of general transients (GTRN) and loss of offsite power (LOOP), resulting from transients within the grid system. The initiating event frequencies of GTRN and LOOP for an OPR1000 plant are reduced by 17.7% and 78.7%, respectively, compared to the Korean industry-average initiating event frequencies, and its core damage frequency from internal events is reduced by 15.2%. The explicit consideration of the HLO capability in initiating event analyses makes significant changes in the risk contributions of the initiating events. Consequently, for more realistic at-power PSAs in Korea, we recommend incorporating plant-specific HLO-related design features when estimating initiating event frequencies.

  • This paper describes a load simulator with power-recovery capability, which is based on the voltage source converter-inverter set. The load simulator described in this paper can save the electric energy that should be consumed to test the operation and performance of the distributed generation system and the power quality compensator. The load simulator consists of a converter-inverter set with a DSP controller for system control and PWM pulse generation. The converter operates as a universal load to model the linear load and the non-linear load, while the inverter feed the energy back to the power source with harmonic compensation. The load simulator can be widely used in the lab to test the performance of the distributed generation system and the power quality compensator.
