  • 11 β ,17 β -dihydroxy-9a-fluoro-l7a-methyl androst-4-en-3-one (Fluoxymesterone), CgoH29 FO,, orthorhombic, P2,2,2,, a=13.468(5) A, b= 19.554 (2)A, c=6.578(9)A, a=b=r=90˚, A (CuKa)=1.5406 A , Dm=1.289cm-3, Dc=1.299cm-3 and Z=4 at T=298k. The structure was solved by direct method using seminvariants of ggg Parity group and refined by the full-matrix least-square method, resulting model with reliability factor R=0.069 for 1098 unique reflection over 3σ . Correlation between Carbon Steel Corrosion and Atmospheric Factors in Taiwan

  • Taiwan has a typical marine climate featuring perennial high-temperature and dampness. This climate, together with the emission of various industrial corrosive waste gases in recent years, contributes a lot to the corrosion of metal materials. In this study, samples of carbon steel exposed to various atmospheres in Taiwan were analyzed to investigate the impacts of atmospheric factors on carbon steel corrosion. Carbon steel samples were collected from 87 experimental stations between 2009 and 2012. Statistical analysis was employed to investigate the correlations between the carbon steel corrosion situations and the atmospheric factors such as concentrations of sulfur dioxide or chloride, exposure time, rainfall, etc. The results indicate that for samples from industrial areas, the sulfur dioxide concentration and exposure time during fall and winter are significantly correlated to the condition of the carbon steel corrosion. However, for samples from coastal zones, the significant correlated factors are chloride concentration and wetting time during winter. The results of this study are useful for the development of carbon steel corrosion prediction models.

A Study on Characteristics of Coastline Change in Eastern Coast Korea (한국 동해안의 변화특성)

  • This paper concerns the receding of the eastern coastline of Korean peninsula at a macroscopic point of view, the result is as following. 1. Eastern coast is gradually developed from maturity stage to full maturity stage. 2. The coastline recession due to sea level rise is amounted to the receding distance, x=0.045 m per yr. 3. The author proposes another classification from the new view point, which is classified by comparing quantities between river supplying sediment loads, and the littoral drifting due to wave actions. According this, eastern coast is receding(Type Q-A), and we could find it's geomorphological characteristics. 4. The general piofile of eastern coast sand beach is erosional storm profile(Type I) which accompany offshore bar. 5. From the wave measuring data of eastern coast(Hoopo port), I can derive the linear regression line of the exceedance probability of wave height from the log-normal distribution. $z=O. 113+4.335 log_lo H, r=0.983.$ Above equation made it possible to estimate $\omega[=P(H>H_c)]for the effective wave height H_c=2. Om4, 4. Om and their corresponding values are considerable (7.8%, 0.3%) 6. Eastern coastline certainly have the tendency of erosive and receding, owing to the sea level rise, poor sediment source and effective wave actions. It's very desirable to survey coastline evolution for a long time systematically, in order to make more elaborate diagnosis.

Calculation of Interaction Parameters in Mixed Layer Minerals and their Application (층상형 혼합광물의 상호작용계수의 계산 및 응용)

  • Based on the method of determination for relative stability of each phase from the difference among the interaction parameters of the phases consisting the mixed layer, the types of interactions between layers were specified and interaction parameter between layers in ordered domain was analytically derived as a function parameter between layers in ordered domain was analytically derived as a function of not only temperature and mole fraction of layers but also ordering parameter. This equation was used for the I/S mixed layer clay minerals to infer the relative stability of R1 type I/S mixed layer in the temperature range from 373K to 450K. The result of calculation suggest that, owing to the decrease in interaction parameter with increasing temperature. The interaction parameter decreases more rapidly with decreasing mole fraction of smectite in domain, which is consistent with the fact that the probability of finding the series smectite layer is lo in the domain with small mole fraction of smectite layers in natural system.

  • The target of this work was the process development of demonstration plant to produce the high quality alternative fuel oil by the pyrolysis of mixed plastic waste. In the first step of research, the bench-scale units of 70 t/y and the pilot plant of 360 t/y had been developed. Main research contents in this step were the process performance test of pilot plant of 360 ton/year and the development of demonstration plant of 3,000 t/y, which was constructed at Korea R & D Company in Kimjae City. The process performance of pilot plant of 360 t/y showed about 80% yield of liquid product, which was obtained by both light gas oil(LGO) and heavy gas oil(HGO), The boiling point range distribution of LO product that was mainly consisting of olefin components in PONA group appeared at between that of commercial gasoline and kerosene. On the other hand, HO product was mainly paraffin and olefin components and also appeared at upper temperature distribution range than commercial diesel. Gas product showed a high fraction of $C_3\;and\;C_4$ product like LPG composition, but also a high fraction of $CO_2$ and CO by probably a little leak of process.

Protective Effect of Biological Osmolytes against Heat- and Chaotropic Agent-Induced Denaturation of Bacillus licheniformis γ-Glutamyl Transpeptidase

  • In the present study, the stabilizing effect of four different biological osmolytes on Bacillus licheniformis ${\gamma}$-glutamyl transpeptidase (BlGGT) was investigated. BlGGT appeared to be stable under temperatures below $40^{\circ}C$, but the enzyme retained less than 10% of its activity at $60^{\circ}C$. The tested osmolytes exhibited different degrees of effectiveness against temperature inactivation of BlGGT, and sucrose was found to be the most effective among these. The use of circular dichroism spectroscopy for studying the secondary structure of BlGGT revealed that the temperature-induced conformational change of the protein molecule could be prevented by the osmolytes. Consistently, the molecular structure of the enzyme was essentially conserved by the osmolytes at elevated temperatures as monitored by fluorescence spectroscopy. Sucrose was further observed to counteract guanidine hydrochloride (GdnHCl)-and urea-induced denaturation of BlGGT. Taken together, we observed evidently that some well-known biological osmolytes, especially sucrose, make a dominant contribution to the structural stabilization of BlGTT.

4-(Tert-butyl)-2,6-bis(1-phenylethyl)phenol induces pro-apoptotic activity

  • Previously, we found that KTH-13 isolated from the butanol fraction of Cordyceps bassiana (Cb-BF) displayed anti-cancer activity. To improve its antiproliferative activity and production yield, we employed a total synthetic approach and derivatized KTH-13 to obtain chemical analogs. In this study, one KTH-13 derivative, 4-(tert-butyl)-2,6-bis(1-phenylethyl)phenol (KTH-13-t-Bu), was selected to test its anti-cancer activity. KTH-13-t-Bu diminished the proliferation of C6 glioma, MDA-MB-231, LoVo, and HCT-15 cells. KTH-13-t-Bu induced morphological changes in C6 glioma cells in a dose-dependent manner. KTH-13-t-Bu also increased the level of early apoptotic cells stained with annexin V-FITC. Furthermore, KTH-13-t-Bu increased the levels of cleaved caspase-3 and -9. In contrast, KTH-13-t-Bu upregulated the levels of pro- and cleaved forms of caspase-3, -8, and -9 and Bcl- 2. Phospho-STAT3, phospho-Src, and phospho-AKT levels were also diminished by KTH13-t-Bu treatment. Therefore, these results strongly suggest that KTH-13-t-Bu can be considered a novel anti-cancer drug displaying pro-apoptotic activity.

Growth and Properties of GaN on(001) Si Substrate with an AIN Buffer Layers (AIN 완충층이 형성된 (001) Si 기판위에 GaN의 성장과 특성)

  • RF 스퍼터링법으로 (001)Si 기판위에 AIN완충층을 성장하고, 그 위에 HVPE법으로 GaN를 성장하였다. GaN의 성장률은 103$0^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 AIN완충충의 두께가 각각 500$\AA$과 2000$\AA$ 일때 65$\mu\textrm{m}$/hr와 84$\mu\textrm{m}$/hr로서 AIN완충층의 두께가 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. AIN완충층위에서 GaN의 성장초기에는 수 $\mu\textrm{m}$크기의 결정들이 임의의 방향으로 성장된 후 성장시간이 경과함에 따라 수평방향으로의 성장에 의하여 합쳐지게 되며, c-축 방향으로 배향된 평탄한 표면을 갖는 다결정체가 성장되었다. 20K의 온도에서 측정된 광루미네센스(PL)스펙트럼에서는 3.482eV에서 자유여지자에 의한 발광과 3.7472eV에서 반치폭이 9.6meV인 도너 구속여기자 발광 및 3.27eV 부근에서의 도너-억셉터 쌍 사이의 재결합과 LO포는 복제에 의한 발광이 나타났다. 그러나 2.2eV부근에서의 황색발광은 관찰되지 않았다.

열처리된 ZnO 박막의 광학적 특성에 관한 연구

  • 마그네트론 스퍼터 법으로 Al2O3 기판 위에 ZnO 박막을 성장하여 열처리 온도에 따른 광학적 특성 변화를 Raman 분광법 및 photoluminescence (PL) 분광법으로 분석하였다. 박막 성장시 기판의 온도는 $500^{\circ}C$를 유지하였고, 성장된 시료에 대한 열처리는 $600^{\circ}{\sim}900^{\circ}C$의 구간에서 3분간 실행하였다. Raman 측정결과 열처리 전후 모든 시료에서 wurtzite nonpolar ZnO의 전형적인 특징인 A1-LO mode와 E2-low mode 및 E2-high mode가 관측되었다. 또한 열처리 온도 변화에 따른 Raman 피크의 이동은 보이지 않았다. 이로 미루어 본 연구에서 제작된 ZnO는 우수한 결정성을 갖고 있으며, 열처리에 의한 변형이 일어나지 않았음을 알 수 있었다. PL 측정 결과 열처리 전의 저온 발광 특성은 잘 분해되지 않는 밴드단 발광이 미약하게 나타났다. 그러나 열처리 온도가 증가함에 따라 exciton 피크가 잘 분리되면서 그 세기도 점차 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다. Hall 측정 결과와 비교해 볼 때 열처리 온도가 증가 할수록 박막내 native defect가 열처리에 의해 감소되면서 전기적/광학적 특성이 향상되는 것으로 분석된다.
