  • This study examined the habitat status of wild birds at closed-trails and the control group of opened-trails in the national park of the Baekdudaegan mountains. After evaluating each area based on this, it's aimed at being utilized as basic data for future national park management and opening of trails. Upon field investigations and analyzing existing literary materials, it was found that there were a total of 76 bird species living around the trails. Among them, it was confirmed that 60 species can breeding and 10 species are protected by law. Upon assessing the scores of each area according to the evaluation standards of this study, Area I had 7 scores, area II had 13 scores, area III had 5 scores, and area IV had 16 scores, showing that the control group open-trail area IV between Jeongryeongchi and Seongsamjae had the highest score, and that area III of Wolyeongdae~Chotdaebong~Daeyasan~Miljae~Wolyeongdae had the lowest score. Evaluation of closed-trail according to wild bird species (Avifauna) was attempted in this study, but there were more bird species living in open-trails, while also having higher evaluation scores. Therefore, if opening trail is needed in the future due to excessive desires of visitors or inevitable social demands, it is judged that various environmental factors including mammals highly affected by people should be evaluated to open up the sector with the lowest score. Also, it is judged that through methods such as reservation systems, the number of visitors should be controlled or night-time hikes should be prohibited so that nocturnal wildlife can freely use the trails.

  • The siting process of municipal solid waste treatment facility consists of a structured set of policies that guide the implementation of waste management goals. The main problems of siting process are the social and political context or the community opposition. During the past, the traditional siting process has been obsolete in most pans of the country, so public officials and researchers have tried to experiment with new policies and procedures. A number of controversial issues offer insight into the factors that are related to the local residents opposition to new waste treatment facilities. The purpose of this case study focused on the establishment of criteria in the site selection of waste treatment facilities which can carry out resources recovery. incineration and landfill simultaneously. That is to say. the main points are to make concrete the quantification standards of assignment and take an objective allotment scale according to the assessment factors. The summarized results are as follows; 1. To promote the site selection based on the guideline such as rational. objective and due process of law, it is desirable to inform the local residents the methods of assessment in advance. 2. Totally 20 factors for the site selection are divided into 3 categories such as living environment characteristics, technological location characteristics and socio-economic factors. And the supposed magnitude of weight in all items are equally applied. 3. In regard to 20 assessment factors, the allotment of point is distributed by the specific location characteristics. Namely to make the assessment easily, each factors are set the scale from 1 to 5 points en masse along the data which are acquired in the region.

  • The utilization of TOC(Total organic carbon), a new environmental standard, was evaluated for 30 lakes in the Nakdong River Basin, which is used for drinking and agricultural usage. The active use of water resources begins with securing satisfactory water quality. Since this allows people and nature to maintain stability of quality, water quality standards are being tightened to ensure good water quality. In order to improve the pollution level of organic matter in lakes in the living environment, it is important to use the appropriate organic substance index. The relationship between the newly introduced TOC and the existing COD(Chemical oxygen demand) in the targeted lake was positively correlated with the possibility of replacing the TOC with COD. However, the environmental grade standard using TOC is better than the environmental grade standard using COD, so it has the same effect as that of the grade of water quality using TOC as an organic substance factor. This indicates the limitation of TOC to directly replace existing COD when trying to determine or improve the quality level using organic indicators of lakes. Therefore, in order to secure the qualitative safety of the lake, it is required to strengthen environmental standards of TOC in terms of water quality grade. In addition, the correlation between TOC and COD shows a great difference depending on the utilization characteristics of the lake. This requires clear scientific identification, and it requires continuous monitoring of COD that has been used to accumulate indicators of lake organic matter.

  • The major 24 tributaries in Nam-River mid-watershed were monitored for discharge and water quality in order to understand the characteristics of the watershed and to select the tributary catchment for improving water quality. According to the analytical results of discharge and water quality monitoring data of 24 tributaries, the mean value of discharge below $0.1m^3/s$ was 62.5% among the monitored tributaries and it mostly exceeded the water quality standards of Nam-river mid-watershed ($BOD_5$ = 3 mg/L, T-P = 0.1 mg/L over). According to the stream grouping method and the water quality delivery load density ($kg/day/km^2$) based on the results of tributary discharge and water quality monitoring, the tributary watersheds for improving the water quality were selected. In the Nam-River mid-watershed, tributaries in the GaJwaCheon, HaChonCheon catchment (Group D, $BOD_5$ = 3 mg/L over) and in the UirYeongCheon, SeokGyoCheon catchment (Group A, T-P = 0.1 mg/L over), which have a small flow (and/or large flow) and a high concentrations of water pollutants. The various water quality improving scheme for tributaries, in accordance with the reduction of potential point source pollution by living sewage and livestock wastewater, should be established and implemented.

  • In this study, air quality conditions were identified and analyzed in real time, at the same time, living habits and ventilation methods were maintained in the daily life of residents, and thus, this present study focuses on the lifestyles of residents. Previous studies showed a difference from this study, focusing on the study on the effects of changes in indoor air quality on human health according to the indoor air quality process test standards of the Ministry of Environment. Formaldehyde concentrations exceeded all ventilation standards, but satisfied the organic standards of the Ministry of Environment when ventilation devices and air purifiers were activated. As such, it was investigated that a large amount of formaldehyde emission in the condo is initially ventilated, but a certain concentration is maintained. The change in PM2.5 concentration according to the ventilation method showed a clear difference. As a result of simulating indoor air flow during natural ventilation, the effects of wind speed and wind direction affect the flow rate of indoor air, and indoor polluted air is stagnant even in the presence of wind and is not completely discharged. When the risk assessment results are averaged on the day of measurement, the trends of change between adults and children are almost equivalent, but the results address that children are more sensitive to risk than adults.

  • Phosphorus (P) is a limited, essential, and irreplaceable nutrient for the biological activity of all the living organisms. Sewage sludge ash (SSA) is one of the most important secondary P resources due to its high P content. The SSA has been intensively investigated to recover P by wet chemicals (acid or alkali). Even though $H_2SO_4$ was mainly used to extract P because of its low cost and accessibility, the formation of $CaSO_4$ (gypsum) hinders its use. Heavy metals in the SSA also cause a significant problem in P recovery since fertilizer needs to meet government standards for human health. Therefore, P recovery process with selective heavy metal removal needs to be developed. In this paper some of the most advanced P recovery processes have been introduced and discussed their technical characteristics. The results showed that further research is needed to identify the chemical mechanisms of P transformation in the recovery process and to increase P recovery efficiency and the yields.

  • Noise and vibration problems at the construction site, expansion of construction scale and frequency of urban construction is increased, has given the damage to local residents. Also, the result of civil complaint about noise and vibration that occurred in 2011 was 56,244; it is showing an increasing trend of more than 4% annually. In particular, the construction noise and vibration, the civil complaints of around construction site accounts for 64.6%(36,353), are harmful to the tranquility of living environment. As a result, the government has managed to strengthen the regulatory standard of construction noise (65dB(A), Day-time) from 2011. However, the regulatory standard of construction noise and vibration does not meet and also complaints related the construction noise and vibration not decreased. Because the management system can be applied to the construction site is insufficient and a shortage of manpower. In this study, investigated the status and problems of the regulatory standards related to construction noise and vibration, we propose an efficient management plan of construction noise and vibration.
