  • Among the heat/mass exchange units composing an absorption system, the absorber, where the refrigerant vapor is absorbed into the liquid solution is the one least understood. In the present study, the effects of non-absorbable gas on the absorption process of aqueous lithium bromide solution falling film inside a vertical tube were experimentally investigated. In the range of film Reynolds number of 30 ~ 195, heat and mass transfer characteristics were investigated as a function of non-absorbable gas volumetric concentration, 0.2 ~ 20%. An increase of non-absorbable gas volumetric concentration degraded the mass transfer rate dramatically in the absorption process. The reduction of mass transfer rate was significant for the addition of small amount of non-absorbable gas to the pure vapor. At film Reynolds number of 130, an increase of non-absorbable gas concentration from 0.2 to 6.0% resulted in the decrease of mass transfer rate by 36% and 20% of non-absorbable gas by 59%. However the decrease of film Nusselt number with the increase of volumetric concentration of non absorbable gas was relatively smaller than the decrease of Sherwood number. Critical film Reynolds number was identified to exist for the maximum heat and mass transfer regardless of the volumetric concentration of non-absorbable gases.

  • The rates and activation parameters for the halide exchange reactions of substituted benzenesulfonylbromides (R-C$_{6}$H$_4$SO$_2$Br, R=p-MeO, p-$CH_3$, p-H, p-NO$_2$) in dry acetone at two temperatures were determined. It was found that the nucleophilicity order of Cl->I-$\geq$Br- for strong electron withdrawing-, and mild electron donating group, and of I-$\geq$Cl->Br- for strong electron donating group, Hammett plots showed slightly convoked characteristics which is similar to the plots of substituted benzenesulfonylchlorides, but contrary to the concaved nature for the halide exchange reactions of substituted benzyl chlorides. The rate of halogen exchange between benzenesulfonylbromide and lithium bromide decreased in the order of solvent : ($CH_3$)$_2$CO>$CH_3$CN》MeOH. The rates and activation parameters were also compared with those already known in the substituted benzenesulfonylchlorides. Theses were explained in terms of the structural properties of the transition state, and discussed the reaction mechanisms.s.

  • This paper was studied on corrosion characteristics of gas absorption refrigeration & hot water system using $LiBr-H_2O$ working fluids. In the $62\%$ lithium bromide solution at $60^{\circ}C$, polarization test of Cu, $10\%$ cupronickel($90-10\%$ Cu-Ni) and $30\%$ cupronickel($70-30\%$ Cu-Ni) tube was carried out. And polarization behavior, polarization resistance characteristics, open circuit potential, anodic polarization of heat exchanger tube for gas absorption refrigeration & hot water system were considered. The main results are as following: 1) Polarization resistance of heat exchange tubes appears high in order of $30\%$ cupronickel tube > $10\%$ cupronickel tube > Cu tube. B) Open circuit potential of cupronickel tube is more noble than that of Cu tube, and corrosion current density of cupronickel is controlled than Cu tube. 3) Potential of passive region of $30\%$ cupronickel tube is more wide than that of $10\%$ cupronickel tube, and the passivation critical current of $30\%$ cupronickel tube is lower than that of $10\%$ cupronickel tube.

  • In an effort to obtain high efficiency in gas fired absorption chillers, a new working fluid has been developed with thc addition of the component of $LiNO_3$, LiCl and LiI to the conventional solution of $LiBr-H_2O$. The solubility and vapor pressure of the 4 component working fluid developed in this work were measured and compared to the results of $LiBr-H_2O$ solution. It was observed that there exists an optimal mole ratio of the inorganic salts in terms of solubility. The mole ratio of LiBr, $LiNO_3$ and LiCl was found to be around 5:1:1~2 in the $LiBr-LiNO_3-LiCl-H_2O$ mixture, and in the case of $LiBr-LiO_3-Lil-H_2O$ and $LiBr-Lil-LiCl-H_2O$ mixtures, the mole ratio of LiBr, $LiNO_3$ and Lil/ LiBr, LiI and LiCl were found to be around 5:1:1 and 5:1:0.5~1 respectively. The vapor pressure of the 4 component working fluid of the optimal mole ratio was increascd with adding the component of $LiNO_3$, LiCl and LiI except for $LiBr-LiNO_3-LiCl-H_2O$ mixture. The absorption capacity of $LiBr-LiNO_3-LiCl-H_2O$ mixture was obtained higher than that of $LiBr-H_2O$ mixture.
