Due to the recent emphasis on carbon neutrality and environmental regulations, the global electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing rapid growth. This surge has raised concerns about the recycling and disposal methods for EV batteries. Unlike traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, EVs require unique and safe methods for the recovery and disposal of their batteries. In this process, predicting the lifespan of the battery is essential. Impedance and State of Charge (SOC) analysis are commonly used methods for this purpose. However, predicting the lifespan of batteries with complex chemical characteristics through electrical measurements presents significant challenges. To enhance the accuracy and precision of existing measurement methods, this paper proposes using a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model, a type of deep learning-based recurrent neural network, to diagnose battery performance. The goal is to achieve safe classification through this model. The designed structure was evaluated, yielding results with a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.8451, a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 1.3448, and an accuracy of 0.984, demonstrating excellent performance.
Conventional battery state-of-charge (SoC) estimation methods either involve sophisticated models or consume considerable computational resource. This study constructs an enhanced coulomb counting method (Ah method) for the SoC estimation of lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) by expanding the Peukert equation for the discharging process and incorporating the Coulombic efficiency for the charging process. Both the rate- and temperature-dependence of battery capacity are encompassed. An SoC mapping approach is also devised for initial SoC determination and Ah method correction. The charge counting performance at different sampling frequencies is analyzed experimentally and theoretically. To achieve a favorable compromise between sampling frequency and accumulation accuracy, a frequency-adjustable current sampling solution is developed. Experiments under the augmented urban dynamometer driving schedule cycles at different temperatures are conducted on two LiBs of different chemistries. Results verify the effectiveness and generalization ability of the proposed SoC estimation method.
In this study, urethane acrylate macromer was synthesized and it was used in a gel polymer electrolyte (GPE), and then its electrochemical performances were evaluated. LiCoO$_2$/GPE/graphite cells were Prepared and their performances depending on discharge currents and temperatures were evaluated. The precursor consisting of urethane acrylate (UA), hexanediol dimethacrylate (HDDA) and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) had a low viscosity relatively ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolyte with UA at room temperature and -20$\^{C}$ was ca. 4.5 $\times$ 10$\^$-3/S$.$cm$\^$-1/ and 1.7 x 10$\^$-3/ S$.$cm$\^$-1/, respectively GPR was stable electrochemically up to potential of 4.i V vs. Li/Li$\^$+/. LiCoO$_2$/GPE/graphite cells showed good a high-rate and a low-temperature performance.
In this study, gel polymer electrolytes (GPE) with semi-interpenerating network of poly (methyl methacrylate) and hexanediol dimethacrylate were synthesized and their electrochemical performances were evaluated. LiCoO$_2$/GPE/graphite cells were prepared and their performances depending on discharge currents and temperatures were evaluated. The precursor containing 5 vol% curable mixture had a low viscosity relatively. GPE showed good electrochemical stability up to potential of 4.8 V vs. Li/Li$\^$+/. Ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolyte at room temperature and -20$^{\circ}C$ was ca. 5.9 and 1.4${\times}$10$\^$-3/ Scm$\^$-1/, respectively. LiCoO$_2$/GPE/graphite cells showed good rate capability, low-temperature performance and cycleability.
The purpose of this study is to research and develop tin oxide-flyash composite for lithium Ion polymer battery. Tin oxide is one of the promising material as a electrode active material for lithium Ion polymer battery (LIPB). Tin-based oxides have theoretical volumetric and gravimetric capacities that are four and two times that of carbon, respectively. We investigated cyclic voltammetry, AC impedance and charge/discharge cycling of SnO$_2$-flyash/SPE/Li cells. The first discharge capacity of SnO$_2$-flyash composite anode was 639 mAh/g. The discharge capacity of SnO$_2$-flyash composite anode was 563 and 472 mAh/g at 6th and 15th cycle, respectively. The SnO$_2$-flyash composite anode with PVDF-PMMA-PC-EC-LiClO$_4$ electrolyte showed good capacity with cycling.
This paper presents a study on the efficiency of DC-DC converter to charge/discharge lithium battery. The losses of switching device, magnetic components, output capacitor, diode, and snubber circuit are analyzed by considering the charge/discharge characteristics of the converter. Based on the loss analyses, efficiency simulation in charging/discharging process are performed.
Lithium-ion batteries are actively used in various industrial sites such as field robots, drones, and electric vehicles due to their high energy efficiency, light weight, long life span, and low self-discharge rate. When using a lithium-ion battery in a field, it is important to accurately estimate the SoC (State of Charge) of batteries to prevent damage. In recent years, SoC estimation using data-based artificial neural networks has been in the spotlight, but it has been difficult to deploy in the embedded board environment at the actual site because the computation is heavy and complex. To solve this problem, neural network lightening technologies such as network pruning have recently attracted attention. When pruning a neural network, the performance varies depending on which layer and how much pruning is performed. In this paper, we introduce an optimized pruning technique by improving the existing pruning method, and perform a comparative experiment to analyze the results.
