  • New drug development requires 10 to 15 years of long time and more than $ 1 billion in funding, ranging from basic research${\rightarrow}$preclinical medicine${\rightarrow}$clinical medicine${\rightarrow}$product approval${\rightarrow}$sales. Many new drug development bio-venture companies will continue to pursue new drug development with funds secured through listing on the securities market. This study focuses on the impact of the listing on the market of bio-venture companies in the development of new drugs. It is necessary to determine whether the increase in registered patent, preclinical, clinical and technology transfer contracts at the time of listing (D) The results of this study are as follows. We also analyzed whether the registered patent, preclinical, and clinical effects had significant effect on technology transfer contracts at two years after listing and listing. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, Korea's new drug development bio-venture firms increased their registered patents but did not increase their pre-clinical, clinical and technology transfer contracts. Second, at the time of listing and two years after listing, pre-employment has a significant effect on Korea's technology transfer contracts and has a significant effect on overseas technology transfer contracts. However, registered patents and clinics have significant influence on technology transfer contracts. Korea 's new drug development bio-venture firms showed patent increase despite the stock market listing, but pre-clinical, clinical and technology transfer contracts did not increase. In order to strengthen technological commercialization of new drug development bio-venture companies in the future, it is required to establish R & D strategy for efficient use of IPO subscription funds, open innovation through strengthening industry-academia-partnerships, and more sophisticated preclinical and clinical strategy establishment.

  • It is necessary to adopt some logical techniques and methods of alarm processing for a large complex plant such as nuclear power plants in order to present the occurred alarm messages properly and concisely. Among such alarm processing techniques, the alarm suppressing function is a strong tool to avoid alarm flooding during the sudden transients of plant output power such as turbine trips, reactor trips and other incidents. Unless any suppression or representation technologies are used in an alarm message listing system, it cannot provide quick assistance to plant operators or supervisors during plant upsets because too many alarm messages are presented in an alarm list window. This paper presents the key suppression methods and analysis processes developed for implementing a suppressed alarm message listing function of an integrated alarm system called LogACTs which has been applied to a CANDU nuclear power plant. A simulation testing of the suppressing function conducted with the real plant alarm message list data has demonstrated an effective performance of the developed logics with the high suppression rate.

  • This study investigates the nexus between the level of Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosures (CSRD) and Risk of Bankruptcy of companies that are listing in the Stock Exchanges of Vietnam. To investigate that relationship, this study collected secondary data from annual audited financial statements from 2014 to 2018 of listing companies. Applying two different regression models with two dependent variables and six independent and control variables, we find out that Vietnamese firms with higher level of CSRD performance can rapidly reduce their risk of bankruptcy. This phenomenon happens in the current year and in the coming years in all firms in the research sample. This result may be that the disclosures of social responsibility information can bring financial and non-financial benefits to the firms. In addition, the results also point out that there is a difference in risk of bankruptcy between the group of companies, which discloses and the one which does not disclose corporate social responsibility on their annual reports. This might be from the effects of various factors such as business size, financial leverage, market to book ratio, return on assets, cash flow from operations, etc. Our research results can be applied to other firms in Vietnam and in other similar jurisdictions.

  • Along with rapid global economic development, people are slowly becoming environmentally aware and green development is increasingly a vital topic of social concern. Academic circles are currently focusing on environmental protection and economic growth to explore the coordinated development of both and to achieve a win-win solution between them. To study the relationship between environmental protection experience and both cost and performance, this study empirically analyzes companies listing on the Shenzhen A-share market from 2014 to 2018. The results show that senior executives' environmental protection experience is negatively correlated with corporate costs, whereas it is positively correlated with business performance. These results provide empirical evidence of the importance of enterprises introducing and cultivating environmental personnel and insisting on sustainable development.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine whether the existence of related personnel in KOSDAQ technology special listed firms has a signal effect on the market and affects performance when listed. The KOSDAQ technology special listing system is a system introduced to enable future growth by securing financing through corporate public offering based on the technology and marketability of technology-based startups and venture companies. As a result of analyzing 135 special technology companies listed from 2005 to 21 (excluding SPAC mergers and foreign companies) whether or not related personnel affect corporate value and listing period when they are listed, it was analyzed that the presence of related personnel did not significantly affect corporate value or listing period. The same was found in the results of the verification by reducing the scope to related personnel such as public officials and related agencies. However, under certain conditions, significant results were derived from the presence of related personnel on the listing of companies listed in special technology cases. It was found that the presence of related personnel and VC investment had a significant effect on corporate value, and in the case of bio-industry, there was a slight significant effect on the duration of listing. This study is significant in that it systematically analyzed the signal effect of the existence of related personnel for the first time for all 135 companies. In addition, as a result of the analysis, the results suggest that internalized efforts to secure technology and marketability are more important, such as parallel to VC investment, rather than simply recruiting related personnel.

  • This study examines the influence of individual investors' sentiment on Japanese IPO aftermarket performance (measured by return and trading volume on the first trading day and return on the first trading year). This study proposes that IPOs will be, on average overpriced on the listing day when individual investors' sentiment is highly optimistic. Higher initial return and trading volume are expected in IPOs with higher investors' optimism. Further, the positive initial return will occur in the short term as individual investors usually are uninformed investors who demand shares based on their personal preferences, which will last only in a short period. Following the overvaluation hypothesis, price reversals should be predicted once the effect of individual investors' optimism has disappeared, causing the IPOs to underperform in the long term. Using 520 Japanese IPOs issued from January 2010 to December 2019, this study reveals that individual investors' sentiment is positively and significantly related to returns and trading volume on the first trading day. Return reversals are found on the first trading year despite the insignificant influence of individual investors' sentiment on IPO return on the first trading year.

  • This study reviewed the literature pertaining to the cause and effects of job stress. Many definitions of stress have been offered and the diversity of these definitions has been generated by medical scientists, psychologists, and behavioral scientists. Most approaches dealing with job stress have involved listing of various sources of job stress, moderators, and outcomes. This study is concerned with the selection of variables, the relationships between job stressors and outcomes, and the effects of moderators on these relationships investigated in job stress research. A review of job stress literature presents that various job stressors (e. g., task characteristics, role characteristics, organizational characteristics, career development, and relationships), moderators (e. g., locus of control, type A and B personality, social support, and demographics), and outcomes (e. g., perceived stress, job satisfaction, job commitment, organizational commitment, performance, turnover, and physiological symptoms) were used for a greater understanding of job stress.

  • We aim to build predictive models for Airbnb's prices using a GPU-accelerated RAPIDS in a big data cluster. The Airbnb Listings datasets are used for the predictive analysis. Several machine-learning algorithms have been adopted to build models that predict the price of Airbnb listings. We compare the results of traditional and big data approaches to machine learning for price prediction and discuss the performance of the models. We built big data models using Databricks Spark Cluster, a distributed parallel computing system. Furthermore, we implemented models using multiple GPUs using RAPIDS in the spark cluster. The model was developed using the XGBoost algorithm, whereas other models were developed using traditional central processing unit (CPU)-based algorithms. This study compared all models in terms of accuracy metrics and computing time. We observed that the XGBoost model with RAPIDS using GPUs had the highest accuracy and computing time.
