The water jet impingement cooling is one of the techniques to remove the heat from high heat flux equipments. Local heat transfer of the confined water impinging jet and the effect of nozzle collar to enhance the heat transfer are investigated in the fee surface jet and submerged jet. Boiling is initiated from the farthest downstream and increase of the wall temperature is reduced with developing boiling, forming the flat temperature distributions. The reduction in the nozzle-to-surface distance fur H/W$\le$1 causes significant increases and distribution changes of heat transfer. Developed boiling reduces the differences of heat transfer for various conditions. The nozzle collar is employed at the nozzle exit. The distances from heated surface to nozzle collar, Hc are 0.25W, 0.5W and 1.0W. The liquid film thickness is reduced and the velocity of wall jet increases as decreased spacing of collar to heated surface. Heat transfer is enhanced fur region from the stagnation to x/W$\~$8 in the free surface jet and to x/W$\~$5 in the submerged jet. For nucleate boiling region of further downstream, the heat transfer by the nozzle collar is decreased in submerged jet comparing with higher velocity condition. It is because the increased velocity by collar is de-accelerated downstream.

Microorganisms were isolated from earthworm intestine and examined for their ability to degrade 3-methyl-4-nitrophenol (MNP), a main degradation product of the insecticide fenitrothion. An isolate that showed the best degradation of MNP was selected for further study. The 16S rRNA analysis showed that the isolate belongs to the genus of Burkholderia, close to phenanthrene-degrading Burkholderia sp. S4.9, and is named Burkholderia sp. SH-1. When time-course degradation of MNP by SH-1 was examined by high performance liquid chromatographic analysis, almost complete degradation of MNP was observed within 26 h. Colony forming unit value assays indicated that the isolate SH-1 was capable of utilizing MNP as a sole carbon source. SH-1 could also degrade p-nitrophenol (PNP) but could not degrade ortho-substituted nitroaromatics such as 2,4-, 2,6- and 2,5-dinitrophenol. Catechol was detected as the main degration product of MNP and PNP. SH-1 was also found in the soil from which earthworms were obtained. These results suggest that the dispersal of Burkholderia sp. SH-1 into different environment with the aid of earthworms is likely to play a role in bioremediation of the soil contaminated with MNP.

Porous W with spherical and directionally aligned pores was fabricated by the combination of sacrificial fugitives and a freeze-drying process. Camphene slurries with powder mixtures of $WO_3$ and spherical PMMA of 20 vol% were frozen at $-25^{\circ}C$ and dried for the sublimation of the camphene. The green bodies were heat-treated at $400^{\circ}C$ for 2 h to decompose the PMMA; then, sintering was carried out at $1200^{\circ}C$ in a hydrogen atmosphere for 2 h. TGA and XRD analysis showed that the PMMA decomposed at about $400^{\circ}C$, and $WO_3$ was reduced to metallic W at $800^{\circ}C$ without any reaction phases. The sintered bodies with $WO_3$-PMMA contents of 15 and 20 vol% showed large pores with aligned direction and small pores in the internal walls of the large pores. The pore formation was discussed in terms of the solidication behavior of liquid camphene with solid particles. Spherical pores, formed by decomposition of PMMA, were observed in the sintered specimens. Also, microstructural observation revealed that struts between the small pores consisted of very fine particles with size of about 300 nm.

The mechanical and electrical properties of pressed and annealed $\beta-SiC-TiB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as a function of the liquid forming additives of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$. Phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed $\alpha$-SiC(6H), TiB2, and (Al5Y3O12). Reaction between Al2O3 and $Y_2O_3$ formed YAG but the relative density decreased with increasing $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ contents. The Flexural strength showed the value of 458.9 MPa for composites added with 4 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperatures. Owing to crack deflection and crack bridging, the fracture toughness showed 6.2, 6.0 and 6.6 MPa.m1/2 for composites added with 4, 8 and 12 wt% Al2O3+Y2O3 additives respectively at room temperature. The resistance temperature coefficient showed the value of $3.6\times10^{-3},\; 2.9\times10^{-3}\; and\; 3.0\times10^{-3} /^{\circ}C$$^{\circ}C$ for composite added with 4, 8 and 12 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$additives respectively at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature range of $25^{\circ}C\; to\; 700^{\circ}$.

The composites were fabricated 61 vol% $\beta$-SiC and $39vol%TiB_2$ powders with the liquid forming additives of 8, 12, 16wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ by hot pressing at $1730^{\circ}C$ and subsequent pressed annealing and pressureless annealing at $1750^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours to form YAG. The result of phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed $\alpha$-SiC(6H), $TiB_2$, and YAG($Al_5Y_3O_{12}$) crystal phase. The relative density of composites were increased with increasing $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ contents. The fracture toughness showed the highest value of $7.77MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ for composites added with 12wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperature. The electrical resistivity and the resistance temperature coefficient showed the lowest of $7.3{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and $3.8{\times}10^{-3}/^{\circ}C$, respectively, for composite added with 12wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature range of $25^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$.

One hundred thirty-four putative Bacillus isolates were recovered from soybean rhizosphere soils of Nimar region to select effective zinc solubilizers for increased assimilation of zinc (Zn) in soybean seeds. These isolates were screened in vitro for zinc-solubilization ability on Tris-minimal agar medium supplemented separately with 0.1% zinc in the form of zinc oxide, zinc phosphate, and zinc carbonate. Of all, 9 isolates and a reference Bacillus cereus ATCC 13061 were characterized and identified as Bacillus species based on Gram-positive reaction, endospore-forming cells, and the presence of iso-$C_{15:0}$ and anteiso-$C_{15:0}$ as predominant fatty acids. On plate assay, two isolates KHBD-6 and KHBAR-1 showed a greater diameter of solubilization halo and colony diameter on all the three zinc compounds. The isolates KHBD-6, KHBAR-1, BDSD-2-2C, and KHTH-4-1 and the reference strain ATCC 13061 had higher soluble zinc concentration in liquid medium supplemented with zinc phosphate and zinc carbonate compounds as compared with the other isolates and uninoculated control. Evaluation under microcosm conditions showed that inoculation of isolates KHBD-6 (57.34 ${\mu}g/g$), KHBAR-1 (55.67 ${\mu}g/g$), and strain ATCC 13061 (53.10 ${\mu}g/g$) significantly increased the Zn concentration in soybean seeds as compared with the other isolates and uninoculated control (47.14 ${\mu}g/g$). This study suggests the occurrence of zinc-solubilizing Bacillus in soils of Nimar region and isolates KHBD-6 and KHBAR-1 were found to be promising zinc solubilizers for increased assimilation of Zn in soybean seeds.

Background: Gut microflora play a crucial role in the biotransformation of ginsenosides to compound K (CK), which may affect the pharmacological effects of ginseng. Prebiotics, such as NUTRIOSE, could enhance the formation and consequent absorption of CK through the modulation of gut microbial metabolic activities. In this study, the effect of a prebiotic fiber (NUTRIOSE) on the pharmacokinetics of ginsenoside CK, a bioactive metabolite of ginsenosides, and its mechanism of action were investigated. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were given control or NUTRIOSE-containing diets (control diet + NUTRIOSE) for 2 wk, and ginseng extract or vehicle was then orally administered. Blood samples were collected to investigate the pharmacokinetics of CK using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Fecal activities that metabolize ginsenoside Rb1 to CK were assayed with fecal specimens or bacteria cultures. Results: When ginseng extract was orally administered to rats fed with 2.5%, 5%, or 10% NUTRIOSE containing diets, the maximum plasma concentration ($C_{max}$) and area under the plasma concentration-time curve values of CK significantly increased in a NUTRIOSE content-dependent manner. NUTRIOSE intake increased glycosidase activity and CK formation in rat intestinal contents. The CK-forming activities of intestinal microbiota cultured in vitro were significantly induced by NUTRIOSE. Conclusion: These results show that prebiotic diets, such as NUTRIOSE, may promote the metabolic conversion of ginsenosides to CK and the subsequent absorption of CK in the gastrointestinal tract and may potentiate the pharmacological effects of ginseng.

Background: There is limited understanding of the effect of dietary components on the absorption of ginsenosides and their metabolites into the blood. Methods: This study investigated the pharmacokinetics of the ginseng extract and its main constituent ginsenoside Rb1 in rats with or without pretreatment with a prebiotic fiber, NUTRIOSE, by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. When ginsenoside Rb1 was incubated with rat feces, its main metabolite was ginsenoside Rd. Results: When the intestinal microbiota of rat feces were cultured in vitro, their ginsenoside Rd-forming activities were significantly induced by NUTRIOSE. When ginsenoside Rb1 was orally administered to rats, the maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) and area under the plasma drug concentratione-time curve (AUC) for the main metabolite, ginsenoside Rd, were $72.4{\pm}31.6ng/mL$ and $663.9{\pm}285.3{\mu}g{\cdot}h/mL$, respectively. When the ginseng extract (2,000 mg/kg) was orally administered, Cmax and AUC for ginsenoside Rd were $906.5{\pm}330.2ng/mL$ and $11,377.3{\pm}4,470.2{\mu}g{\cdot}h/mL$, respectively. When ginseng extract was orally administered to rats fed NUTRIOSE containing diets (2.5%, 5%, or 10%), Cmax and AUC were increased in the NUTRIOSE receiving groups in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion: These findings reveal that intestinal microflora promote metabolic conversion of ginsenoside Rb1 and ginseng extract to ginsenoside Rd and promote its absorption into the blood in rats. Its conversion may be induced by prebiotic diets such as NUTRIOSE.

The effect of AI$_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$additives on fracture toughness of $\beta$-SiC-ZrB$_2$composites by hot-pressed sintering were Investigated. The $\beta$-SiC-ZrB$_2$ ceramic composites were hot-presse sintered and annealed by adding 1, 2, 3wt% AI$_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$(6:4wt%) powder as a liquid forming additives at 195$0^{\circ}C$ for 4h. In this microstructures, no reactions were observed between $\beta$-SiC and ZrB$_2$, and the relative density Is over 90.79% of the theoretical density and the porosity decreased with increasing AI$_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$ contents. Owing to crack deflection and crack bridging of fracture toughness mechanism, the fracture toughness showed the highest of 5.5328MPa . m$^{1}$2/ for composites added with 2wt% AI$_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$ additives at room temperature. But the standard deviation of fracture toughness of specimens decreased with increasing AI$_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$ contents and showed the highest of 0.8624 for composite tilth 1wt%, AI$_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$additives.
