A new hollow fiber filled with the lower refractive index liquid as core constructs a liquid core optical fiber(LCOF). The LCOF have been used as colorimetric cell to determine elements Cr and Cu in the presence of 70%- 50% ethanol or 50% dioxane aqueous solution, based on colored complex of Chromium(VI) with Diphenycarbazid(DPC) and copper with Chromaurd S(CAS) respectively. The sensitivity (1/ng/ml) of calibration curve of Cr and Cu are 0.052, 0.017 over the range 0 - 25, 0 - 24(ng/ml) respectively. The Cr in the animal gum and Nation Standard of China are determined with recoveries of 94 - 102%.
The characteristics of a photonic crystal fiber sensor with reuleaux triangle are studied by using the finite element method. The wavelength sensitivity of the designed optical fiber sensor is related to the arc radius of the reuleaux triangle. Whether the core area is solid or liquid as well as the refractive index of the liquid core contributes to wavelength sensitivity. The simulation results show that larger arc radius leads to higher sensitivity. The sensitivity can be improved by introducing a liquid core, and higher wavelength sensitivity can be achieved with a lower refractive index liquid core. In addition, the specific channel plated with gold film is polished and then analyte is deposited on the film surface, in which case the position of the resonance peak is the same as that of the complete photonic crystal fiber with three analyte channels being filled with analyte. This means that filling process becomes convenient with equivalent performance of designed sensor. The maximum wavelength sensitivity of the sensor is 10200 nm/RIU and the resolution is $9.8{\times}10^{-6}RIU$.
We have proposed and demonstrated noncontact refractometer incorporating a fiber bundle. The fiber bundle is composed of a TEC(thermally expended core) fiber and hundreds multimode fibers. The fiber is designed in such a way that the detected reflected optical power from a liquid is constant against the distance between fiber bundle and liquid surface. Low differactive characteristic of TEC fiber make it possible to increase the available distance between the fiber bundle and liquid surface, The obtained sensitivity, optical intensity variation by change of refractive index of liquid is 0.4.
A multi purpose environmental monitoring system has been developed as a commercially available standard using the techniques which are FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating), Hetero-core spliced fiber optic sensor and etc, for the purposes of monitoring large scaled structures and preserving natural environments. The monitoring system has been tested and evaluated in a possible outdoor condition in view of the full scaled operation at actual sites to be monitored. Additionally, the developed systems in the previous works conveniently provided us with various options of sensor modules intended for monitoring such physical quantities as displacement, distortion, pressure, binary states, and liquid adhesion. In this paper, we extend the previous results to a water leakage detection problem and develop a sensing system as a result. By the experimental study, it is verified that multi-point leakage detection is possible using single line optical fiber.

Additionally, the developed system in this work conveniently provides us with various options of sensor modules intended for monitoring such physical quantities as displacement, distortion, pressure, binary states, and liquid adhesion. Two channels of optical fiber line were monitored in each channel, three displacement sensor modules were connected in series, in order to examine the performance to a pseudo-cracking experiment in the outdoor situation and to clarify temperature influences an the system, in terms of the coupling of optical connectors and the OTDR stability. The results from the pseudo-cracking experiment agreed with the actual cracks, by means of calculation, based an the detected displacement values and their geometrical arrangement of the used sensor modules. The temperature change, ranging from 10 to $20^{\circ}C$ resulting from the 10-days free running operation, was found to influence the system stability of ${\pm}10{\mu}m$, primarily due to the coupling instability of the used optical connectors. It was found that fusion splicing, rather than the use of connectors, reduced the fluctuation dawn to ${\pm}2{\mu}m$. The specification and performance of various option modules have been demonstrated to show the capability of inspecting various physical quantities by use of the single system, which would be suitable for multi-purpose environmental monitoring.

The experiment study has been performed to examine the performance to a pseudo-cracking experiment in the outdoor situation, and to clarify temperature influences to the system in terms of the coupling of optical connectors and the OTDR stability. It has been verified that the sensing system is robust to the temperature change ranging from the general condition to the hard condition. Especially, in this study, the specification and performances of the pressure sensor have been demonstrated to show the capability of inspecting various physical quantities.

The aim is to investigate the spectra responsibilities of QD (Quantum Dot) for the innovation of new dosimetry application for therapeutic Megavoltage X-ray range. The unique electrical and optical properties of QD are expected to make it a good sensing material for dosimeter. This study shows the spectra responsibility of toluene based ZnCd QD and PPO (2.5-diphenyloxazol) mixed liquid scintillator. The QDs of 4 sizes corresponding to an emission wavelength (ZnCdSe/ZnS:$440{\pm}5nm$, ZnCdSeS:470, 500, $570{\pm}5nm$) were utilized. A liquid scintillator for control sample was made of toluene, PPO. The Composition of QD loaded scintillators are about 99 wt% Toluene as solvent, 1 wt% of PPO as primary scintillator and 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 wt% of QDs as solute. For the spectra responsibility of QD scintillation, they were irradiated for 30 second with 6 MV beam from a LINAC ($Infinity^{TM}$, Elekta). With the guidance of 1.0 mm core diameter optical fiber, scintillation spectrums were measured by a compact CCD spectrometer which could measure 200~1,000 nm wavelength range (CCS200, Thorlabs). We measured the spectra responsibilities of QD loaded organic liquid scintillators in two scintillation mechanisms. First was the direct transfer and second was using wave shifter. The emission peaks from the direct transfer were measured to be much smaller luminescent intensity than based on the wavelength shift from the PPO to QDs. The emission peak was shifted from PPO emission wavelength 380 nm to each emission wavelength of loaded QD. In both mechanisms, 500 nm QD loaded samples were observed to radiate in the highest luminescence intensity. We observed the spectra responsibility of QD doped toluene based liquid scintillator in order to innovate QD dosimetry applicator. The liquid scintillator loading 0.2 wt% of 500 nm emission wavelength QD has most superior responsibility at 6 MV photon beam. In this study we observed the spectra responsibilities for therapeutic X-ray range. It would be the first step of innovating new radiation dosimetric methods for radiation treatment.
