Fabrication technique and performance test of catalytic micro propulsion are treated based on MEMS technology. This propulsion is designed to use hydrogen peroxide as liquid mono-propellant for attitude control of pica-satellite. The propellant is fed into the micro reactor channel and decomposed into hot gas yielding controllable thrust by catalyst. In order to increase the efficiency of the reaction that depends on the contact area of propellant and catalyst, porous surface formation on the channel accompanied by platinum particle deposition has been performed using H$_2$PtCl$_{6}$ solution as a precursor. Several thrusters were fabricated in different concentration of H$_2$PtCl$_{6}$ solution to determine the best quantity of Pt particles. For the comparison of the performance of each thruster, the volume of oxygen generated by the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide and the thrust were measured.red.

In this study, preliminary design of a high-altitude test facility (HATF) was performed to simulate the high-altitude environment using a rocket engine that liquid oxygen and kerosene were used as the propellant. Experimental facility consists of vacuum chamber, supersonic exhaust diffuser, heat exchanger, ejector and gas generator. The vacuum chamber was simulated and maintained high-altitude environmental pressure by supersonic exhaust diffuser. Combustion gas of the rocket engine was cooled by water at heat exchanger after that the mixed gas was emitted to the air by ejector. The ejector which was operated by the steam generator using 75% ethanol and liquid oxygen as propellants and water for steam maintains a vacuum condition.

The Propulsion System Test Complex (PSTC) is constructed for developing KSLV-II in the Naro space center. The KSLV-II uses LOX for oxidizer and oxidizer filling algorithm is developed for supplying oxidizer to KSLV-II. This paper introduces oxidizer filling algorithm.

A model combustor has been designed and fabricated for studying the combustion characteristics of oxygen (O2)/hydrogen (H2) flames under supercritical conditions. The combustor is designed to allow combustion experiments up to 60 bar, the supercritical pressure condition of O2 and H2. Injectors can be replaced to study various types of flames and the combustion chamber is designed to visualize flames by installing optical windows. Through the preliminary tests, including a high-pressure (up to 60 bar) test using air and combustion tests for coaxial jet flames of liquid oxygen (LO2)/gaseous hydrogen (GH2) at elevated pressure, the reliability of the combustor has been demonstrated.

This paper summarizes the activities performed for the development of a BLDC(Brushless Direct Current) motor driven cryogenic thrust control valve with application to KSLV-II rocket engine. The developed thrust control valve can modulate the flow rate of liquid oxygen under cryogenic temperature of 90K and high pressure of 113.2 bar with the help of electro-mechanical actuator driven by a BLDC motor. This valve can be applied to an engine combustion test after minor change because all development certification test have been performed successfully.

In liquid oxygen/kerosene liquid rocket engines, kerosene is not only a propellant but also plays a role as a coolant to protect the combustion chamber wall from 3,000 K or more combustion gas. Since kerosene is exposed to high temperature passing through cooling channels, it may undergo heat-related chemical reactions leading to precipitation of carbon-rich solids. Such kerosene's thermal and fluidic characteristic test data are essential for the regeneratively cooled combustion chamber design. In this paper, we investigated foreign studies related to regenerative cooling channel and kerosene. Starting with general information on hydrocarbon fuels including kerosene, we attempted to systematically organize sedimentary phenomena on cooling channel walls, their causes/research results, coking test equipments/prevention methods, etc.

The procedure of design and manufacture of sub-scale combustor using bipropellant swirl injector with external mixing for a liquid rocket engine are described. The results of cold flow test, ignition test and combustion test of the sub-scale combustor are also given in this paper. The sub-scale combustor uses liquid oxygen(LOx) and kerosene as propellants and has a injector head, an ablative material combustor wall and a water cooled nozzle. The injector head has LOx manifold, fuel manifold, fire face plate, one center swirl injector and 18 main swirl injectors. The cold flow, ignition and combustion tests were successfully performed without damage of combustor. Results of hot firing tests show that combustion efficiency meets the target of design and operations of start and stop cyclogram are stable and high frequency combustion instability does not occur.

The oxidizer filling system, ground facility of the launch complex, should accept difficult requirements from the launcher sufficiently. The launcher do not have unnecessary insulators for mass reduction and manages liquid oxygen mass fastidiously to satisfy the mission requirement. So, the ground facility should be able to accept its requirements, then we should make the operating process being adjusted. In this paper, the operating process design and verification results on the oxidizer filling ground facility for liquid rocket is demonstrated.
Recently, research on applying composite materials to various industrial fields is being actively conducted. In particular, composite materials fabricated by Fused Deposition Modeling 3D printers have more advantages than existing materials as they have fewer restrictions on manufacturing shape, reduce the time required, weight. With these advantages, it is possible to consider utilizing composite materials in cryogenic environments such as the application of liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, which are mainly used in an aerospace and mobility. However, FDM composite materials are not verified in cryogenic environments less than 150K. This study evaluates the characteristics of composite materials such as tensile strength and strain using a UTM (Universal Testing Machine). The specimen is immersed in liquid nitrogen (77 K) to cool down during the test. The specimen is fabricated using 3D print, and can be manufactured by stacking reinforced fibers such as carbon fiber, fiber glass, and aramid fiber (Kevlar) with base material (Onyx). For the experimental method and specimen shape, international standards ASTM D638 and ASTM D3039 for tensile testing of composite materials were referenced.

Hot-fire test of a turbopump for a gas generator cycle rocket engine of 30 ton class was carried out in real propellant environment. Liquid oxygen and kerosene were used for the oxidizer pump and the fuel pump, respectively, while hot gas produced by the gas generator was supplied to the turbine. A part of the propellant discharged from the pumps was provided to the gas generator. The turbopump was run stably at both on-design and off-design conditions, satisfying all the performance requirements. This paper describes one of the test cases, where the turbopump was run for 120 seconds at three different operating modes in one test. In terms of performance characteristics of pumps and turbine, the results from turbopump assembly test using real propellant showed a good agreement with those from the turbopump component tests using simulant working fluid.
