An improved method is presented for the prediction of heat transfer coefficients in turbulent fall-ing liquid films with or without interfacial shear for both heating or condensation. A modified Mudawwar and El-Masri's semi-empirical turbulence model, particularly to extend its use for the turbulent falling film with high interfacial shear, is used to replace the eddy viscosity model incorporated in the unified approach unposed by Yih and Liu. The liquid film thickness and asymptotic heat transfer coefficients against the film Reynolds number for wide range of interfacial shear predicted by both present and existing methods are compared with experimental data. The results show that in general, predictions of the modified model agee more closely with experimental data than that of existing models.

Falling film rectification involves simultaneous heat and mass transfer between vapor and liquid interface. In the present work, the adiabatic rectification process of ammonia-water vapor on the vertical plate was investigated. The continuity, momentum, energy and diffusion equations for the solution film and vapor mixture were formulated in integral forms and solved numerically. The model could predict the film thickness, the pressure gradient, and the mass transfer rate. The effects of Reynolds number and ammonia concentration of solution and vapor mixture, rectifier length, and the enhancement of mass transfer in each phases were investigated. The stripping of water in vapor mixture occurred new the entrance of ammonia solution, which imposed the proper size of an adiabatic rectifier. Rectifier efficiency increased as film Reynolds number increased and as vapor mixture Reynolds number decreased. The improvement of rectifier efficiency was significant with the enhancement of mass transfer in falling film.

In the recognition of the gases using the quartz crystal rnicrobalance (QCM) coated with the film materials, it is important to obtain the recognition ability of gases, and the stability of film coated above the QCM. Especially, the thickness of film coated above the QCM is decreased according with the using circumstance and time of QCM gas sensor. Therefore, the sensing chararcteristics of film is changed with these. In this paper, we coated the lipid GC materials varing with the blended amount of PVC(Po1y Vinyl Chloride) and solution (Tetra Hydrofan:THF) above QCM to obtain the stability of lipid PC film. QCM gas sensors coated with film materials were measured the frequency change in the chamber of stationary gas sensing system injected 1-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol and benzene of 20.4 respectively. Also, we measured the degradation characteristics of QCM gas sensor to show the properties of stability.

The spray characteristics of Gas-Centered Swirl Coaxial Injector was investigated that there were different characteristics with or without gas flow. As gas flow was accelerated, the momentum of gas was transferred to the momentum of liquid in the low liquid Reynolds number. Therefore, the axial velocity of liquid was increased and the measured value was smaller than without gas flow. However, in the high momentum flux ratio, the momentum transfer hardly occurred and the results had constant values. As the recess length was increased, the mixing area of gas and liquid also was increased, the results were decreased.
NUFLEX is a general purpose thermo/fluid flow analysis program which has various physical models including spray. In NUFLEX, spray models are composed of breakup and collision models of droplet. However, in case of diesel engine, interaction between wall-film and impingement model considering heat transfer is not coded in NUFLEX. In this study, Lee & Ryou impingement & wall-film model considering heat transfer is applied to NUFLEX. For the verification of this NUFLEX program, numerical results are compared with experimental data. Differences of film thickness and radius between numerical results and experimental data are within 10% error range. The results show that NUFLEX can be used for comprehensive analysis of spray phenomena.

Co nanoparticles on silica substrates were fabricated by inducing a thin-film dewetting through two different processes-furnace annealing and pulsed-laser annealing. The effects of annealing temperature, film thickness and laser energy density on dewetting morphology and mechanism were investigated. Co thinfilms with thicknesses between 3 to 15 nm were deposited using ion-beam sputtering, and then, in order to induce dewetting, thermally annealed in furnace at temperatures between 600 and $900^{\circ}C$. Some as-deposited films were irradiated using a Nd-YAG pulsed-laser of 266 nm wavelength to induce dewetting in liquid-state. Films annealed in furnace agglomerated to form nanoparticles above $700^{\circ}C$, and those average particle size and spacing were increased with an increase of film thickness. On the laser annealing process, above the energy density of $100mJ/cm^2$, metal films were completely dewetted and the agglomerated particles exhibited greater size uniformity than those on the furnace annealing process. A detailed dewetting mechanism underlaying both processes were discussed.

Removal of spilled oil over the sea and the river has become one of the urgent problems in these days. Removing oil using mechanical devices by adhesion method is known to be closely related with the problem of estimating the thickness of film remaining on the surface of solid withdrawn from a quiescent liquid. In the present study a series of experimental results are compared with the analytic estimation for the thickness of film remaining on the solid surface using non-dimensional analysis. For the case of pure water both results show the remarkable agreement. However, discrepancy has been found for the case of Bunker C oil and diesel oil. The analytic estimation over-predicts the experimental value for the case of Bunker C oil and under-predicts it for the case of diesel oil. Further study is required to investigate the real situation including a contact angle and the property difference between oil and water.
The present article presents an extension to the computational model for spray/wall interaction and liquid film processes that has been dealt with in the earlier studies (Lee and Ryou, 2000a). The extensions incorporate film spread due to impingement forces and dynamic motion induced by film inertia to predict the dynamic characteristics of wall films effectively. The film model includes the impingement pressure of droplets, tangential momentum transfer due to the impinging droplets on the film surface and the gas shear force at the film surface. Validation of the spray/wall interaction model and the film model was carried out for non-evaporative diesel sprays against several sources of experimental data. The computational model for spray/wall interactions was in good agreement with experimental data for both spray radius and height. The film model in the present work was better than the previous static film model, indicating that the dynamic effects of film motion should be considered for wall films. On the overall the present film model was acceptable for predication of the film radius and thickness.

Heavy ion and proton therapy necessitate range weeks, which are time consuming. Three types of variable compensator, membrane type liquid variable compensator, are proposed by some of the authors to overcome the difficulties, by those arbitrarily thickness distribution of compensator obtained from treatment planning is created at the site of treatment. None of the ideas, however, is yet realized. In this research, we are trying to construct prototype membrane-type liquid variable compensator. This variable compensator partitions air and liquid with elasticity membrane and changes the surface of the elasticity membrane with the thread. The air and oil move through holes to and from the out of beam side of two boxes in which they are contained. The boxes are made of Plexiglas(PMMA), the thread which is made of nylon, the elasticity film which is made from latex for the moment.
