In order for studying pressure-coupled dynamic responses of droplet vaporization, open-loop experiment of an isolated droplet vaporization exposed to pressure perturbations in stagnant gaseous environment is numerically conducted, Governing equations are solved for flow parameters at gas and liquid phases separately and thermodynamic parameters at the interfacial boundary are matched for problem closure. For high-pressure effects, vapor-liquid interfacial thermodynamics is rigorously treated. A series of parametric calculations in terms of mean pressure level and wave frequencies are carried out employing a n-pentane droplet in stagnant gaseous nitrogen. Results show that wave instability in view of pressure-coupled vaporization response seems more susceptible at higher pressures and higher wave frequencies. Mass evaporation rate responding to pressure waves is amplified with increase in pressure due to substantial reduction in latent heat of vaporization. Augmentation of perturbation frequency also enhances amplification due to the reduction of phase differences between pressure perturbation and surface temperature fluctuation.
The objective of this work is to elucidate the details of two key factors dominating the droplet buring behavior in sprays : droplet-droplet interaction and convective flow. The combustion of a one-dimensional linear droplet array with a convective flow has been studied. A one-step, second order model was employed to simulate the chemical reaction in the combustion process. Results for droplet arrays burning at two Reynolds numbers, 50 and 100, two horizontal droplet spacings, 5 and 11 radii, and two vertical droplet spacing, 2 and 4 radii, were obtained. The results indicate the droplet burning behavior is affected by Reynolds number, droplet-droplet spacing, and the relative location of droplets in the array. Droplet-droplet interaction was found to be strong for arrays with smaller droplet spacing.

Experimental and analytical studies are presented to characterize the break-up mechanism and atomization processes of the intermittent- impinging-type nozzle. Gasoline jets passing through the circular nozzle with the outlet diameter of 0.4mm and the injection duration of 10ms are impinged on each other. The impingement of fuel jets forms a thin liquid sheet, and the break-up of the liquid sheet produces liquid ligaments and droplets subsequently. The shape of liquid sheets was visualized at various impinging velocities and angles using the planer laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) technique. Based on the Kelvin-Helmholtz wave instability theory, the break-up length of liquid sheets and the droplet diameter are obtained by the theoretical analysis of the sheet disintegration. The mean diameter of droplet is also estimated analytically using the liquid sheet thickness at the edge and the wavelength of the fastest growing wave. The present results indicate that the theoretical results are favorably agreed with the experimental results. The size of droplets decreases after the impingement as the impinging angle or the injection pressure increase. The increment of the injection pressure is more effective than the increment of the impinging angle to reduce the size of droplets.
The purpose of this study is to compare the SMD(Sauter mean diameter) with different vibrant plates. Each vibrant plates have different surface roughness. Also liquid film thickness are measured for explanation how to concern atomization. Ultrasonic waves is used for vibration. Immersion liquid method is used for the measure of SMD and also liquid film thickness is measured using of point needle method. Distilled water and gasoline fuel are used to liquids. Supplied liquid flow rates are $18{\sim}296cc/min$. Centerline average roughness of vibrant plates are 0.5, 2.0, 4.7, $9.5\;{\mu}m$ and diameter of vibrant plate is 60mm. In result, good atomization of liquid is obtained in widen flow rates. The mean droplet size is increased in orders of 4.7, 2.0. 9.5, $0.5\;{\mu}m$ surface roughness. Distilled water has a big mean droplet size than gasoline fuel in low flow rate. Above the 78cc/min flow rates, distilled water has a small mean droplet size than gasoline fuel. Liquid films changes are measured with ultrasonic power. Also, cavitation effect on sprays is observed.
Ionic liquid (IL) is a salt presents in a liquid form at room temperature. Recently, it attracts huge attention due to its possibilities as a clean solvent, electrolyte, and catalyst. In the present work, the charging behavior of six different ILs were investigated using droplet contact charging phenomenon in a dielectric medium. Basically, the charging of an IL droplet can be explained by a perfect conductor theory. However, there were several different features depending on the species of ions of ILs, which requires rigorous molecular level modeling of charge transport through electrochemical reaction of IL. We hope the present results contribute to build up fundamental understanding of electrochemical charge transport of IL.

This paper presents the spray characteristics of the oxidizer rich preburner injector which can be used in the high-thrust rocket system. We designed the basic shape of the liquid-liquid coaxial swirl injector for the rocket oxidizer rich preburner injection system. To understand the spray angle variation with the high pressure environment, the spray visualization in the high pressure chamber was preformed. Also we measured the droplet velocity, the Sauter Mean Diameter(SMD), the volume flux and the number density with the PDPA system by using water in atmospheric pressure. The results show that the spray angle is reduced by increasing ambient pressure and maximum droplet velocity is shown from a nozzle tip and then the droplet velocity decreases as a spray moves to the downstream. The SMD decreases on the axial distance from 20 mm to 50 mm but it increases over 50 mm. That is due to the increasing number of collision with each droplet and interaction with ambient air on going downstream direction.
A multi-dimensioanl model is being increasingly used to predict the thermo-flow field in the gas turbine combustor. This article addresses an integrated survey of modeling of the liquid spray formation and fuel distribution in gas turbine with high-shear nozzle/swirler assembly. The processes of concern include breakup of a liquid jet injected through a hole type orifice into air stream, spray-wall interaction and spray-film interaction, breakup of liquid sheet into ligaments and droplet,5, and secondary droplet breakup. Atomization of liquid through hole nozzle is described using a liquid blobs model and hybrid model of Kelvin-Helmholtz wave and Rayleigh-Taylor wave. The high-speed viscous liquid sheet atomization on the pre-filmer is modeled by a linear stability analysis. Spray-wall interaction model and liquid film model over the wall surface are also considered.
A dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulation was presented to analyze surface wettability and contact angles of a droplet on a solid platform. The many-body DPD, capable of modeling vapor-liquid coexistence, was used to resolve the vapor-liquid interface of a droplet. We found a constant density inside a droplet with a transition along the droplet boundary where the density decreased rapidly. The contact angle of a droplet was extracted from the isosurfaces of the density generated by the marching cube and a spline interpolation of 2D cutting planes of the isosurfaces. A wide range of contact angles from $55^{\circ}$ to $165^{\circ}$ predicted by the normalized parameter ($|A_{SL}|/B_{SL}$) were reported. Droplet with the parameters $|A_{SL}|>5.84B{_{SL}}^{0.297}$ was found to be hydrophilic. If $|A_{SL}|$ was much smaller than $5.84B{_{SL}}^{0.297}$, the droplet was found to be superhydrophobic.

The intermitternt and transient fuel spray have been investigated from the simultaneous measurement of droplet sizes and velocities by using Phase/Doppler Particle Analyzer(PDPA). Measurement have been done on the spray axis and at the edge of the spray near nozzle at various gas-to-liquid density ratios(.rho./sub g//.rho./sub l/) that ranges from those found in free atmospheric jets to conditions typical of diesel engines. Probability density distributions of the droplet size and velocity were obtained from raw data and mathematical probability density functions which can fit the experimental distribations were extracted using the principle of maximum likelihood. In the near nozzle region on the spray axis, droplet sizes ranged from the lower limit of the measurement system to the order of nozzle diameter for all (.rho./sub g/ /.rho./sub l/) and droplet sizes tended to be small on the spray edge. At the edge of spray, average droplet velocity peaked during needle opening and needle closing. The rms intensity is greatly incresed as the radial distance from the nozzle is increased. The probability density function which can best fit the physical breakage process such as breakup of fuel drops is exponecially decreasing log-hypebolic function with 4 parameters.
Wall thinning of pipeline in power plants occurs mainly by flow acceleration corrosion (FAC), cavitation erosion (C/E), liquid droplet impingement erosion (LDIE). Wall thinning by FAC and C/E has been well investigated; however, LDIE in plant industries has rarely been studied due to the experimental difficulty of setting up a long injection of highly-pressurized air. In this study, we designed a long-term experimental system for LDIE and investigate the behavior of LDIE for three kinds of materials (A106B, SS400, A6061). The main control parameter was the air-water ratio (${\alpha}$), which was defined as the volumetric ratio of water to air (0.79, 1.00, 1.72). In order to clearly understand LDIE, the spraying velocity (${\nu}$) of liquid droplets was controled larger then 160 m/s and the experiments were performed for 15 days. Therefore, this research focuses relation between erosion rate and air-water ratio on the various pipe-flow materials. NPP(nuclear power plant)'s LDIE prediction theory and management technique were drawn from the obtained data.
