고압하(高壓下) Ni-C 액상(液相) 속에서의 fullerene형(型) 구상흑연입자(球狀黑鉛粒子)의 형성(形成) (Formation of the Fullerene-type Graphite Spherulites in the Ni-C Liquid under High Pressure)

  • 고온고압하(高溫高壓下)에서의 Ni-C 액상(液相) 중에서 구상흑연입자(球狀黑鉛粒子)의 형성과정을 밝히기 위한 실험적인 관찰을 행하였다. 구상 흑연입자는 다이아몬드 안정역에서 유지하는 동안 안정한 형태로 생성되어 성장하였다. 이 때의 구상 흑연입자는 다결정형태(多結晶形態)가 아닌 연속적으로 성장한 많은 결함을 포함하는 단결정형태(單結晶形態)(fullerene형(型))를 하고 있었다. 표면분석기(表面分析機)(Auger electron spectroscope) 및 고분해능(高分解能) 투과전자현미경(透過電子顯微鏡)을 이용한 분석결과 구상 흑연 입자는 $sp^2$$sp^3$ 결합을 갖는 탄소원자가 혼재(混在)되어 있는 결정상태임이 밝혀졌다. 다이아몬드 안정역으로부터 흑연 안정역으로 압력이 감소함에 따라 흑연입자의 모양이 구형(球形)에서 평판형(平板形)으로 연속적으로 변해가는 것이 관찰되었다. 다이아몬드 안정역에서 형성되는 구상 흑연입자는 $sp^3$ 결합을 가지는 탄소 원자의 안정적인 존재 때문인 것으로 해석되었다. 많은 결함을 포함하는 큰 크기의 fullerene형(型) 구상 흑연입자가 연속적으로 성장하는 사실은 Kroto가 예측한 대형 fullerene의 성장과정을 실험적으로 뒷받침해 주는 결과라 생각한다.

A Study on Electro-optical Characteristics in Three Kinds of Liquid Crystal Display Operating Mode

  • In this study, we investigated response characteristics of liquid crystal display (LCD) with different operating mode of nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) such as 45 $^{circ} twisted nematic (TN), 67.3 $^{circ} TN and electrical controlled birefringence (ECB) on the rubbed polyimide (PI) surface with side chains. The pretilt angles generated on polyimide surfaces of the three kinds of LCD operating modes were about 12 $^{circ} that was higher than those of conventional TN-LCOs. Also, the Electro-optical (EO) performance of these LCOs showed stable condition. Low transmittance of the 45 $^{circ} TN and 67.3 $^{circ} TN cell on the rubbed PI surface were measured by using low cell gap d. The fast response time in ECB cell among the three kinds of LCD operating modes was achieved. Also, thermal ability of fast 90 $^{circ} TN-LCD was investigated. The threshold voltage and the response time of thermal stressed TN-LCOs showed the same performances on no thermal stressed TN-LCOs. There was little change of value in these TN cells. However, the transmittances of TN-LCOs on the rubbed PI surface decreased while increasing thermal stress time. Therefore, the thermal stability of TN-LCD was decreased by the high thermal stress for the long duration.

2차원 나노소재를 활용한 고분자 건축자재의 난연코팅기술 개발 (Fire-Protective Coating for Polymer Construction Materials using Two-dimensional Nanomaterials)

  • 폴리우레탄(PU) 폼과 같은 가연성 고분자 건축자재의 화재 안전성을 개선하기 위한 새로운 접근의 나노코팅 기술이 개발되었다. 산화 그래핀 (Graphene oxide, GO)과 같은 2차원 소재는 용액상에서 자기 정렬 및 점탄성적 특성을 보이는 액정성(Liquid Crystalline properties, LC)을 나타내며, 이를 이용하면 특정 농도 범위에서 3차원의 다공성 폼을 포함한 다양한 표면에 균일한 코팅이 가능하다. 또한, GO의 액정성을 이용하여 기능성 복합소재의 나노코팅을 위한 골격 구조체(Scaffold)를 형성할 수 있으며, 여기에 도파민(Dopamine)과 같은 무독성의 항산화성 저분자를 도입 후 폴리도파민(polydopamine, PDA)로의 중합을 유도하여 고난연성의 폴리도파민/산화그래핀 (PDA/GO) 나노복합체 코팅층을 형성할 수 있다. 또한 최종적으로 형성된 PDA/GO 코팅은 GO의 2차원 판상구조로 인하여 균일하게 적층된 나노시트 구조로 안정화되며, 이러한 구조적 특성으로 인하여 가스상의 유해 연소생성물의 발생과 확산을 효과적으로 저감할 수 있는 가스 차폐 효과도 유도할 수 있다. 이러한 2차원 소재의 액정성을 활용한 난연성 나노복합소재 코팅 기술은 다양한 유형의 고분자 건축 자재의 화재 안전성을 효과적으로 개선할 수 있는 친환경적이고 새로운 기술적 접근방식이 될 수 있다.

IPS 셀의 전압보유율 및 잔류 DC 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Voltage Holding Ratio and Residual DC Property in the IPS Cell)

  • The voltage holding ratio (VHR) and Residual DC property in the in-plane switching (IPS) cell was studied Several IPS cells which have different concentrations of cynao liquid crystals (LCs) and different resistivities of fluorine LCs were fabricated VHR and residual DC voltage in the IPS cells using the capacitance-voltage (C-V) hysteresis method was measured. We found that the VHR of the IPS cell was decreasing with increasing concentration of cyano LC. The residual DC voltage of the IPS cell was decreasing with increasing concentration of cyano LCs. We suggest that the high polarity of cyano LC helps reducing the residual DC voltage.

  • The performance of dichroic sponge polymer dispersed liquid crystals (D-SPDLC) can be improved further by modifying the TFT diffusing reflector using a $TiO_2$ layer. A metal-like glare was suppressed, and a wider viewing angle than previously reported was achieved. The display showed above newspaper-standard reflectivity and contrast ratio.

매월장석광산(梅月長石鑛山)의 페그마타이트내(內) 유체포유물(流體包有物)과 그 성인(成因)에 관한 모델 연구 (Study on Fluid Inclusion and Genetic Modelling of Pegmatites at the Maewol Feldspar Mine)

  • Maewol Feldspar Mine produces feldspar ore from pegmatites. K-Rb Age of muscovite is 137.7Ma. Fluid inclusions in quartz crystal of the pegmatite show bimodal distribution of homogenization temperatures. The high homogenization temperatures range from 290 to $302^{\circ}C$ while low homogenization temperatures range from 157 to $195^{\circ}C$. Three phases liquid $CO_2$ bearing inclusions indicate $CO_2$ gases were abundantly mixed with granitic melt until the pegmatic magma melt cooled to $290^{\circ}C$. Low density of the magmatic melt relative to the same volume of granitic magma is due to mixture of volatiles(mainly $CO_2$ gases) with the melt and larger space and slow cooling allowed to grow crystals of the pegmatic magma.

용화(龍化)지역에 분포하는 백악기 화강암(化崗岩)에 포함된 유체포유물(流體包有物)에 관한 연구(硏究) (Fluid Inclusion Study of the Cretaceous Granite in the Yonghwa Area)

  • Fluid inclusions have been studied in phenocryst quartz from the Cretaceous porphyritic granite. Three main types of fluid inclusion were found: liquid-rich inclusion (I type), gas-rich inclusion (II type) and solid-bearing inclusions (III-A, III-B). The solid-bearing inclusions (III-A, B) represent the earliest trapped fluids. They have salinities between 63 and 67.5 wt.% equivalent NaCl. These are high saline inclusions containing NaCl and KCl daughter crystals. Homogenization temperature inferred from the fluid inclusion study ranges from 620 to $700^{\circ}C$. Type I and II inclusions were observed within the same fracture. This cause for these differences in degree of filling is evidence of boiling. Salinities of type I and II inclusions range from 10.24 wt.% to 13.44 wt.%, from 8.4 wt.% to 11.48 wt.% NaCl equivalent, respectively.

  • Digital image capturing technology has been making great progress recently, and we can now simply capture the color image by digital camera, flat-bed scanner of Photo CD system. A lot of professionals are instrested in the capability of Photo CD and other digital images in the printing and publishing industry. But these images were not processed a suitable image processing to use in the hard copy. In this paper we described a method of the digital enhancement processiing to use in the printing and publishing industry. Experimental result show that the described method was useful and valid for the digital image enhancement to use in the hard copy.

Carbonate-type 이량체액정의 기하학적 특징 (Geometrical Characteristics of Dimer Liquid Crystals Comprising Comprising Carbonate Linkage)

  • Today, regarded as a science in photography, the role of the lens and sensitizer is important. In this research, we manufactured simple test lens with a various diaphragm which is based on the general purpose lens, and measured the quantity of light and flare. The objective of this study is to figure out the characteristics of our test lens and maximize its usefulness. The results showed that (1) The quantity of light through the lens was not constant. (2) As for flare, its value was consist. (3) Our lens had the characteristics of the soft lens and (4) It had much chromatic abberation. Therefore, We found that a hand-made lens is to acquire visual image such as the effects of a specialized lens.

Synthesis and Permeation Characteristics of Zeolite Membranes

  • Introduction : Membranes made from inorganic materials are generally superior to organo-polymeric materials in thermal and mechanical stability, and chemical resistance. Among inorganic materials zeolite is a promising candidate for a high performance membrane because of the unique characteristics of zeolite crystals such as molecular sieving, ion exchange, selective adsorption and catalysis. Although there are many recent reportsl on the preparation of zeolitc membranes and the gas permeation through the membranes, only a limited number of publications deal with pervaporation studies. Recently, we have reported a high pervaporation performance of NaA zeolite membrane for the separation of water/organic liquid mixtures. and of NaY zeolite menlbrane for the separation of methanol/MTBE. Here, preparation of zeolite (LTA, ZSM-5 and FAU) membranes and their permeation properties are discussed.
