  • The rapid growth of world population, reduction of cultivated areas for crop production, and detrimental effects of pests, diseases, and climate changes have required to breed new rice cultivars with high yield, accepted quality, but strong resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses. However, traditional breeding needs much time to breed a new cultivar, whereas the successful use of molecular breeding is still questionable. We have developed a novel mutation which allow to cross many rice cultivars together with low segregation, that allow to breed a new cultivar in only several cropping. The mechanism has been unknown, but we suggest that gene linkage may play a crucial role, of which the semi dwarf gene might be the center gene for gene linkage occurrence. The phenomenon of this possible gene linkage is contrary to Mendel rules, but it is promising to breed new rice cultivars, of which, the most elite genes in rice might be able to gather in a targeted rice variety.

  • This paper proposes some alternatives fur the power system linkage between South and North Korea, under the current situation. Since little information and data on the North-Korean power system are available so far, many efforts have been made to collect the required data for the North system as much as possible if available, and suppose, estimate and/or conjecture many things otherwise. Using these collected or assumed data, the characteristics of bus voltage and power flow are being studied to estimate the feasibility of the proposed linkage alternatives. To this end, many case studies have been made to examine the performance of acceptable interconnection alternatives.

  • It is very important to correctly set control surface linkage. But a lot of bad setting case has been seen in especially remote controled airplanes and middle size UAVs. In this paper, a three dimensional linkage from control surface to deflection sensor was analyzed kinematically and a position analysis was simulated using algebraic algorithm in terms of nonlinear error of deflection angle. Three correct settings of the linkage came out of this research. One is two-dimensional motion, another is link ratio of 1 and the other is that effective lever of the control surface should be perpendicular to a pushrod in their neutral position.

  • A linkage map of Capsicum annuum L. was constructed by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers followed in a backcross population of an intraspecific cross between cultivars HDA210 and Yatsufusa. A total of 420 random primers were tested and 311 polymorphic bands were generated by 158 random primers. Among them, 86 Yatsufusa specific bands generated by 52 primers were examined for mapping. Most bands except three segregated in Mendelian fashion fitting the expected 1:1 ratio. The total length of the map was 533 cM distributed in 15 linkage groups. The map distance between adjacent markers ranged 0 to 32.8 cM, with an average distance of 9.1 cM (63 markers). Some markers were clustered and this may be due to the amplification of a repetitive sequence by the RAPDs. Primer pairs for a sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) were developed and the segregation scores by the SCAR primers were in accordance with the RAPD data. Two QTL markers for number of axillary shoots and for early flowering were developed. One QTL for early flowering located in the linkage group 3 and explained 61 "io of the phenotypic variation. The other QTL for the number of axillary shoots located in the linkage group 4 explained 55 % of the phenotypic variation.tion.

  • This study is to develop a hierarchic clustering model fur document classification and browsing in OPAC systems. Two automatic indexing techniques (with and without controlled terms), two term weighting methods (based on term frequency and binary weight), five similarity coefficients (Dice, Jaccard, Pearson, Cosine, and Squared Euclidean). and three hierarchic clustering algorithms (Between Average Linkage, Within Average Linkage, and Complete Linkage method) were tested on the document collection of 175 books and theses on library and information science. The best document clusters resulted from the Between Average Linkage or Complete Linkage method with Jaccard or Dice coefficient on the automatic indexing with controlled terms in binary vector. The clusters from Between Average Linkage with Jaccard has more likely decimal classification structure.

  • In this study, an advanced knee joint for active prosthesis leg driven by a linear actuator is suggested. The structure of knee joints of existing active prosthesis legs consists of three links. This kind of linkage requires large torque to drive the active prosthesis legs. Thus a new linkage structure is suggested to solve such problem in this paper. Motion characteristics of the suggested linkage are examined in the simulation. The motion simulation results show that the proposed linkage is able to imitate human gait cycles with the half of linear actuator speed in existing linkages.

  • In order to reconstruct the concept on the public relations of public libraries, this study builds a theoretical background on the public relations of public libraries and tries to systemize the public relations of public libraries utilizing the Linkage System by Grunig & Hunt. Emphasizing the importance of the communication between the organization and its environment, Grunig & Hunt theoretically systemized the Linkage System of the organization. Adopting the Linkage System, this study tries to conceptualize the subjects, objects, directions, contents, and methods on the public relations of public libraries.

  • Localization of extension services in 1997 has weakened the linkage and cooperation between the central and district extension agencies(Provincial Agricultural Research & Extension Services and City & County Technology Centers). Since agriculture needs a national or regional dimension approach in many senses, it is important for agricultural prosperity to maintain and even further strengthen the practice of cooperation between different levels of governments and extension agencies. The objective of this study was to suggest policy measures to strengthen the linkage and cooperation between agricultural extension agencies. Existing works were reviewed to see a general picture of problems associated with he localization of extension services. In order to gain insight into policy measures, questionnaire surveys to extension staffs in districts(8 of 9 Provincial Agricultural Research & Extension Services and 160 of City & County Technology Centers) were conducted. Survey respondents were mainly asked about policy measures which would contribute to strengthen the linkage and cooperation between extension service agencies.Three policy measures derived from the study are: to expand the professional and technological education at the central level; to establish the central-local partnership; and to strengthen the linkage and cooperation between city & county agricultural technology centers.

  • Methodology of server development is so important for the development of online game because the client where the users play the online game depends on the server. In this research, we have studied data linkage methods of the online game server which permits the server to save and retrieve the user data on the database. The data linkage method of the server is critical to make the users continue their games anywhere online. In this paper, several data linkage methods have been proposed and classified with their definitions. The proposed methods have been evaluated with the experimental data. It will contribute for the developer of online game server to choose a good data linkage method for the features of the game.

  • This study established administrative districts of Myeon based on linkage analysis for Chungwa-myeon, Oksan-myeon, Naesan-myeon and Yanghwa-myeon which have the population of less than 2,000 among 15 Myeons in Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-province. As the result of the analysis, it was analyzed that Chungwa-myeon was the most highly linked with Imcheon-myeon. Oksan-myeon had high linkage with Hongsan-myeon while Naesan-myeon had high linkage with Guryong-myeon. Lastly, it was analyzed that Yanghwa-myeon had high linkage with Chunghwa-myeon and Imcheon-myeon. It can be judged that this result comparatively agrees with the local history and policy of Buyeo-gun. Since the average area of a 'Myeon' is much larger than that of 'Dong', it will be difficult to provide administrative services if they are forced to be consolidated based only on population. Thus, it is necessary to establish standards which consider the population and area simultaneously.
