  • The mission of the TTC system is to acquire and process the telemetry data from the satellite and to provide mission planning and satellite control for the target stellite system. In this paper, the transmission scheme for the Tracking, Telemetry and Command(TTC) system of satelliteis described and determined according to the recommendation of CCSDS, and the channel characteristics are analyzed according to modulation method. Expecially, we introduced the concepts of carrier vs. telemetry data power ratio which causes the channel performance to degrade, and analyzed the effects of transmission performance according to the power ratio of carrier vs. telemetry data and the modulation index. The channel of the LEO TTC sytem is different with usual satellite communication system. So, we have generalized the link budget of TTC sytem for using the link budget of ground station well-known and proposed the determination method of modultion indices for improveing channel performance.

  • CubeSats classified as pico-class satellite require a ground station to track the satellite, transmit a command, and receive an on-orbit data such as SOH (State-of-Health) and mission data according to the operation plan. For this, ground station system has to be properly designed to perform a communication to with the satellite with enough up- and down-link budgets. In this study, a conceptual design of the ground station has been performed for the CubeSat named as STEP Cube Lab. (Cube Laboratory for Space Technology Experimental Project). The paper includes a ground station hardware interface design, link budget analysis and a ground station software realization. In addition, the operation plan of the ground station has been established considering the STEP Cube Lab. mission requirements.

  • A flight termination system, which consists of ground and vehicle systems, forcibly terminates flight if it is deemed dangerous. In order to accomplish this, the system should maintain the link reliability above a certain level throughout the whole flight. However, the national proving ground for guided missiles could not fully meet that condition because of the gradually improving performance criteria. In this paper, we have analyzed the link budget for the flight termination system. Furthermore, we have designed and developed an emergency destruction command transmitter system, which is a ground system of the flight termination system, to provide the necessary link margin. Afterwards, we measured the received signal strength at the vehicle system and compared it with that of the existing transmitter system. We hereby confirmed that the link reliability of the flight termination system improved.

  • This paper designs and presents the results of an air network simulation radio transmission link applied with a multi-beam active phase array antenna simulator in a testbed system for verifying an air network currently underway as a technology development task. Using the Ku band, the Radio transmission link was designed in consideration of the link budget to satisfy the requirements for the system being developed. Considering short-distance links and long-distance links, the required EIRP and G/T performance scales of multi-beam repeaters and mission planes were applied to confirm the minimum and maximum link margins based on Eb/No. In this Radio Transmission Link design, the application analysis results such as rainfall availability are used to effectively establish standards when selecting the operating radius of the multi-beam relay system and related system standards.

  • This paper investigated the channel link budget for Wireless Avionics Intra-Communication (WAIC) in 4.4GHz. The band 4.2~4.2GHz was allocated for the communication service among aeronautical applications in world radiocommunication conference (WRC). Wireless channels in aircraft was modelled by the combination of path loss, shadowing effect caused by obstacles, and fading caused by multipath signals. In addition, wireless channels in aircraft are categorized into 6 groups according to various locations of transmitter and receiver. We analyzed the channel link budget for the 6 channel groups in terms of maximum transmission distance and outage probability. Our analysis and intensive computer simulation results show that the propagation characteristics of group A, B, and F is superior to group C, D, E, and the propagation of group E is the most vulnerable. Also, these results can be utilized as basic reference for the channel analysis of intra-aircraft or similar environment.

  • A high speed data link capability is one of the critical factors in determining the performance of the spaceborne SAR system with high resolution because of the strict requirement far the real-time data transmission of the massive SAR data in a limited time of mission. In this paper, based on the data lint model characterized by the spaceborne small SAR system, the high rate multi-channel data link module is designed including link storage, link processor, transmitter, and wide-angle antenna. The design results are presented with the performance analysis on the data link budget as well as the multi-mode data rate in association with the SAR imaging mode of operation from high resolution to the wide swath.

  • The adaptive power control of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems for communications between User Equipments (UEs) with a link-budget based Signal-to-Interference Ratio (SIR) estimate which has distance information is applied to three inner loop power control algorithms. The speed estimation performances of these algorithms with their consecutive Transmit-Power-Control (TPC) ratios are compared to each other, and it is concluded that the speed can be estimated using the TPC ratio information of Consecutive TPC Ratio Step-size Closed Loop Power Control (CS-CLPC) and Fixed Step-size Power Control (FSPC).

  • In this paper we proposed channel models for terrestrial ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) DTV (Digital Television) system in South Korea. For the purpose of this model, we research on propagation model involved in terrestrial DTV system and analyze out field test data of terrestrial DTV broadcasting carried out in korean Broadcasting System. Using the measured values of received field strength, newly proposed Path-loss models have more correctly than that of conventional Path-loss models. This models can be utilized usefully for the efficient ATSC DTV system implementation requiring accurate link-budget calculation

  • Using bi-direction SOA based Extension system, FTTH can enhance PON system by increasing both the upstream and downstream link budget. This increased link budget can be used to extend the distance, increase the split ratio or both. The bi-direction SOA regenerates signals using all-optical amplification, and is therefore transparent to data rate or protocol. The bi-direction SOA supports legacy as well as future FTTx standards. This is based on SOA's proprietary technology platform for the manufacturing of advanced discrete photonics and photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Because the bi-direction SOA uses the same InP semiconductor technology used in virtually all telecom lasers, it is able to amplify signals at 1310 and 1490 nm, wavelengths not accessible with commercial fiber-amplifier (EDFA) technology. Due to the extremely fast response time of the InP semiconductor optical amplifiers inside, the SOA can accommodate both continuous (downstream) and bursty (upstream) traffic.
