Background: When performing reduction of zygomatic arch fractures, locating the inward portion of the fracture can be difficult. Therefore, this study investigated the discrepancy between the locations of the depression on the soft tissue and bone and sought to identify how to determine the inward portion of the fracture on the patient's face. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of chart with isolated zygomatic arch fractures of type V in the Nam and Jung classification from March 2013 to February 2022. For consistent measurements, a reference point (RP), at the intersection between a vertical line passing through the end point of the root of the ear helix in the patient's side-view photograph and a transverse line passing through the longest horizontal axis of the external meatus opening, was established. We then measured the distance between the RP and the soft tissue depression in a portrait and the bone depression on a computed tomography (CT) scan. The discrepancy between these distances was quantified. Results: Among the patients with isolated zygomatic arch fractures, only those with a fully visible ear on a side-view photograph were included. Twenty-four patients met the inclusion criteria. There were four types of discrepancies in the location of the soft tissue depression compared to the bone depression: type I, forward and upward discrepancy (7.45 and 3.28 mm), type II, backward and upward (4.29 and 4.21 mm), type III, forward and downward (10.06 and 5.15 mm), and type IV, backward and downward (2.61 and 3.27 mm). Conclusion: This study showed that discrepancy between the locations of the depressions on the soft tissue and bone exists in various directions. Therefore, applying the transverse and vertical distances measured from a bone image of the CT scan onto the patient's face at the indicated RP will be helpful for predicting the reduction location.

Because the arm can't be sutured due to fracture during a elbow CT scan, a CT scan is proceeded in a state of abdomen and L-spire are overlapped which beam hardening artifact is done many times, and it often lowers the quality of elbow CT images. So there are many difficulties in reading and due to increase in radiation dose from it, the number of patient's exposure keeps increasing. In this research, it plans to improve the quality of the images by avoiding overlap with abdomen, and increasing the number of photon overlapped with lung field which the line attenuation is relatively small. The way of experiment is based on patient's right elbow and place him as head first position, then place his elbow at L2-3 level in supine position, turn about 30 degrees to the left in non-control breathing and in supine position, and compared with full inspiration after overlapping with lung. After figuring out the average value and standard deviation data using Image J program 5 times each for 16, 128 channels, the evaluation is proceeded by measuring each of CNR, MSR are statistically analyzed using SPSS program. Therefore, through positioning and inspiration during elbow CT scan, the way of inspection minimized the exposure radiation dose, and seems to be meaningful in a way to improve the quality of the images.

As the existing radiation scanning systems use 2-dimensional radiation scanned images, the low accuracy has been pointed out as a problem of it. This research analyzes the applicability of the stereo image processing technique to X-ray scanned images. Two 2-dimensional radiation images which have different disparity values are acquired from a newly designed stereo image acquisition system which has one additional line sensor to the conventional system. Using a matching algorithm the 3D reconstruction process which find the correspondence between the images is progressed. As the radiation image is just a density information of the scanned object, the direct application of the general stereo image processing techniques to it is inefficient. To overcome this limitation of a stereo image processing in radiation area, we reconstruct 3-D shapes of the edges of the objects. Also, we proposed a new volume based 3D reconstruction algorithm. Experimental results show the proposed new volume based reconstruction technique can provide more efficient visualization for cargo inspection. The proposed technique can be used for such objects which CT or MRI cannot inspect due to restricted scan environment.

Purpose: The Boramae Hospital are currently using Wide beam reconstruction (WBR: UltraSPECT, Israel) to improve the resolution. The Xact-bone belongs to the WBR. It has been reported that Xact-bone helps us to improve image resolution and contrast. This study will be evaluated clinical usefulness of Xact-bone method. Materials and Methods: The usefulness evaluation of Xact-bone method was analyzed in resolution test and contrast ratio. The resolution test in Planar image were obtained from Full width at half maximum (FWHM) by using capillary tube. And the contrast ratio was obtained from Bone and Soft tissue (B/S) ratio values that were acquired from bone scan study of 50 patients before and after using the Xact-bone method. We prepared the Triple Line Source Phantom, NEMA IEC Body Phantom and Standard Jaszczak Phantom to acquire the FWHM and Contrast Ratio values of Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) image. Subsequently we compared among the Filtered backprojection (FBP), Orderd subset expectation maximization (OSEM) and Xact-Bone image. Results: The results of the planar Xact-bone data improved resolution about 20% by using capillary tube. In addition it was improved B/S ratio about 15%. When using Triple Line Source Phantom, SPECT Xact-bone data improved resolution for both FBP, OSEM methods about 20% and 10%, respectively. Contrast ratio in each spheres has also been increased for both methods that using NEMA IEC body Phantom and Standard Jaszczak Phantom. Conclusion: When we were using Xact-bone method, we could see to improve the resolution and Contrast ratio as compared to do not use the Xact-bone method. Accordingly, by using WBR's Xact-bone method is expected to improve the image quality. However, when introducing new software, it is needed to match the characteristics of the hospital protocol and clinical application.

A huge amount of multiplications is required for 2-D filtering on the image data, making it difficult to implement a real-time quincuncial interpolator. In this paper, efficient design technique and VLSI structures for 2-D multipleierless filter are presented. In the filter design, by introducing an efficient scheme for discretizing the frequency response of the prototype filter, it is shown that a significant amount of the computational burden required in the conventional techniques, such as local search, branch and bound techniques, could be saved. In the case of 5$\times$5 filter, it is found that the design technique described in this paper could save about 80% of the computation time, compared to the conventional methods, while providing a comparable performance. For a hardware implementation, two different VLSI structures for 2-D multiplierless filter are also introduced in the paper : One is for block parallel processing and the other for scan-line parallel processing. In both structure, the AP(area-period) figure improves over Wu's structure[4].
Film printing companies have many problems during a printing process. Most of all, even an insect or dirt stick to the transparent film may cause severe errors until the end of printing job, which means big economic damage to the company. To prevent some insect-dots or dirt-dots, we have to Inspect the total area of film. However, it is very difficult to inspect the film in real-time due to the high-speed of printing that usually more than 150 m/min. A hardware based approach, for example DSP-based approach can be the one of solution candidates, but the total cost and the complexity increases the very high-level. In this paper, we suggest a software based approach, using MMX technology, to inspect the film in real-time. By Many real-plant experiments, we can see the suggest approach is applicable for the inspection of food packaging film in real-time.

This paper describes a neural network based machine vision system designed for inspecting yellow beans in real time. The system consists of a camera. lights, a belt conveyor, air ejectors, and a computer. Beans are conveyed in four lines on a belt and their images are taken by a monochrome line scan camera when they fall down from the belt. Beans are separated easily from their background on images by back-lighting. After analyzing the image, a decision is made by a multilayer artificial neural network (ANN) trained by the error back-propagation (EBP) algorithm. We use the global mean, variance and local change of gray levels of a bean for the input nodes of the network. In an our experiment, the system designed could process about 520kg/hour.

In this paper, we proposed the recognition system of car license plates to mitigate traffic problems. The processing sequence of the proposed algorithm is as follows. At first, a license plate segment is extracted from an acquired car image using morphological features and color information, and noises are eliminated from the extracted license plate segment using line scan algorithm and Grassfire algorithm, and then individual codes are extracted from the license plate segment using edge tracking algorithm. Finally the extracted individual codes are recognized by an FCM algorithm. In order to evaluate performance of segment extraction and code recognition of the proposed method, we used 100 car images for experiment. In the results, we could verify the proposed method is more effective and recognition performance is improved in comparison with conventional car license plate recognition methods.
In this paper, we would study the applicability of neural networks to the recognition process of Korean stenographic character image, applying the classification function, which is the greatest merit of those of neural networks applied to the various pans so far, to the stenographic character recognition, relatively simple classification work. Korean stenographic recognition algorithms, which recognize the characters by using some methods, have a quantitative problem that despite the simplicity of the structure, a lot of basic characters are impossible to classify into a type. They also have qualitative one that it is not easy to classify characters for the delicacy of the character forms. Even though this is the result of experiment under the limited environment of the basic characters, this shows the possibility that the stenographic characters can be recognized effectively by neural network system. In this system, we got 90.86% recognition rate as an average.
