NRZ 형식과 RZ 형식에 따른 WDM채널 왜곡의 보상 특성 (The Compensation Characteristics of WDM Channel Distortion Dependence on NRZ format and RZ Format)

  • HNL-DSF(Highly Nonlinear Dispersion Shifted Fiber) 광 위상 공액기를 이용한 MSSI(Mid-Span Spectral Inversion) 기법이 적용된 320 Gbps WDM시스템에서 전송 형식으로 각각 NRZ와 RZ를 사용하는 경우 채널 입력 전력, 광섬유 분산 계수, 전송 거리 변화에 따른 보상 특성을 분석해 보았다. 우선 광섬유의 분산 계수가 비교적 낮은 WDM시스템에서는 파형 형식이 RZ인 경우가 NRZ인 경우보다 더욱 높은 전력의 신호에 대해서도 고품질 전송이 가능하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 두 번째 광섬유로 입사되는 공액파의 전력이 낮은 채널들에 대한 보상 효과 감소가 광섬유의 분산 계수가 클수록, 그리고 NRZ 형식보다는 RZ 형식에서 더욱 두드러지게 나타나고, 그로 인해 전체 채널의 고품질 전송을 보장하는 광섬유의 분산 계수가 제한되어야 한다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 광섬유의 분산 계수가 작은 WDM 시스템에서는 RZ 형식이, 광섬유의 분산 계수가 큰 WDM 시스템에서는 NRZ 형식이 장거리 전송에 적합하다는 것을 확인하였다.

A Case Study of Tsukuba Tornado in Japan on 6 May 2012

  • This study conducted synoptic and mesoscale analyses to understand the cause of Japan Tsukuba tornado development, which occurred at 0340 UTC 6 May 2012. Prior to the tornado occurrence, there was a circular jet stream over Japan, and the surface was moist due to overnight precipitation. The circular jet stream brought cold and dry air to the upper-level atmosphere which let strong solar radiation heat the ground with clearing of sky cover. A tornadic supercell developed in the area of potentially unstable atmosphere. Sounding data at Tateno showed a capping inversion at 900 hPa at 0000 UTC 6 May. Strong insolation in early morning hours and removal of the inversion instigated vigorous updraft with rotation due to vertical shear in the upper-level atmosphere. This caused multiple tornadoes to occur from 0220 to 0340 UTC 6 May 2012. When comparing Tateno's climatological temperature and dew-point temperature profile on the day of event, the mid-level atmosphere was moister than typical sounding in the region. This study showed that tornado development in Tsukuba was caused by a combination of (a) topography and potential vorticity anomaly, which increased vorticity over the Kanto Plain; (b) vertical shear, which produced horizontal vortex line; and c) thermal instability, which triggered supercell and tilted the vortex line in the vertical.

  • We have analyzed a set of high resolution photographic line profiles of a Zeeman sensitive Fe I $\lambda$ 6302.5 line taken with the Universal Birefringent Filter over a single round sunspot (SPO 5007) at the Sacramento Peak Solar Observatory. The observed spectra recorded on films are traced by PDS and the traced densities are converted to relative intensity by means of IRAF. The Stokes I and V profiles are then constructed by adding together and subtracting from each other the left and right handed circular polarizations, respectively. The reduced I and V profiles are analyzed by means of the coarse analysis(Auer et al.(1977), Skumanich and Lites(1987)) with the use of inversion technique. It is found that the umbral field strength is about 3000 gauss and the field distribution follows closely the emperical model proposed by Wittmann(1974).

  • Temperature distribution of 250W high-pressure mercury lamp has been measured by the spectroscopic method using relative intensities of spectral lines. To obtain radial temperature distribution, the measured intensity which was integrated along the line of sight was transformed into radial line intensity by Abel's inversion. Temperature was determined from relative intensities of spectral lines of the same atomic species. The measured temperature of 250W high-pressure mercury lamp is 6000K at the axis. In this experiment temperature profile of high-pressure arc is papabolic as known.

  • This paper presents a fast and accurate contingency analysis in EHV systems for line outages, loss of generation of redispatching and loss-of-load or load management. Unlike other contingencies, line outage requires the modification of the Jacobian of the base case power flow and the calculation of its new inverse, which is substantially different from the original inverse. In this paper, we obtain the inverse of the new Jacobian from the original inverse without repeating the time consuming matrix inversion process. Numerical test results show the significant improvement in the accuracies compared with those obtained using the original inverse.

Application of an Adaptive Autopilot Design and Stability Analysis to an Anti-Ship Missile

  • Traditional autopilot design requires an accurate aerodynamic model and relies on a gain schedule to account for system nonlinearities. This paper presents the control architecture applied to a dynamic model inversion at a single flight condition with an on-line neural network (NN) in order to regulate errors caused by approximate inversion. This eliminates the need for an extensive design process and accurate aerodynamic data. The simulation results using a developed full nonlinear 6 degree of freedom model are presented. This paper also presents the stability evaluation for control systems to which NNs were applied. Although feedback can accommodate uncertainty to meet system performance specifications, uncertainty can also affect the stability of the control system. The importance of robustness has long been recognized and stability margins were developed to quantify it. However, the traditional stability margin techniques based on linear control theory can not be applied to control systems upon which a representative non-linear control method, such as NNs, has been applied. This paper presents an alternative stability margin technique for NNs applied to control systems based on the system responses to an inserted gain multiplier or time delay element.

희박 예혼합 모형 가스터빈 연소기의 화염구조와 배기특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Investigation on Flame Structure and Emission Characteristics in a Lean Premixed Model Gas Turbine Combustor)

  • The objective of this study is a qualitative comparison between line-integrated OH chemiluminescence ($OH{\ast}$) image and its Abel inversion image at different phase of the oscillating pressure field. PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) measurements were conducted under non-reacting conditions to see the global flow structure. Also NOx emission was measured to investigate the effect of fuel-air premixing on combustion instability and emission characteristics. Experiments were carried out in an atmospheric pressure, laboratory-scale dump combustor operating on natural gas. Combustion instabilities in present study exhibited a longitudinal mode with a dominant frequency of ${\sim}341.8$ Hz, which corresponded to a quarter wave mode of combustor. Heat release and pressure waves were in-phase when instability occurred. Results gave an insight about the location where the strong coherence of pressure and heat release existed. Also an additional information on active control to suppress the combustion instabilities was obtained. For lean premixed combustion, strong correlation between $OH{\ast}$ and NOx emissions was expected largely due to the exponential dependence of thermal NOx mechanism on flame temperature.

광섬유 분산 변동에 따른 왜곡된 WDM 채널의 보상 특성 (Compensation Characteristics or Distorted WDM Channel dependence on Variation of Fiber Dispersion)

  • 광섬유의 분산이 균일하지 않다는 가정 하에 색 분산과 자기 위상 변조 (SPM : Self Phase Modulation) 현상에 의해 왜곡된 WDM 채널의 보상 특성을 수치적으로 살펴보았다. 본 연구에서 사용한 보상 기법은 전체 전송 링크 중간에 광 위상 공액기 (OPC: Optical Phase Conjugator)를 두어 보상하는 MSSI (Mid-Span Spectral Inversion)이다. OPC를 중심으로 두 광섬유 구간의 분산 계수 분포가 변동하면서 서로 일치하지 않은 경우에도 전송 채널의 입력 전력을 적절히 조절함으로써 MSSI를 통해 장거리 전송이 가능하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 즉 장거리 WDM 시스템에 MSSI를 적용하게 되면 전송 선로 곳곳에 필요한 보상기(compensator) 등을 없앨 수 있고, 결과적으로 시스템 비용을 절감할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

해양효과가 보정된 제주도 자기지전류 탐사 자료의 2차원 역산 (Two-dimensional Inversion of Sea-effect-corrected Magnetotelluric (MT) Data in Jeju Island)

  • 제주도는 한반도 남부에 위치한 화산섬으로서, 화산활동 및 한반도와의 지체구조적 연결성과 관련된 중요성 때문에 오랫동안 지질학적/지구물리학적 연구의 대상이었다. 최근 제주도에서 심부지열자원 조사를 위한 다수의 저주파수 MT 자료가 획득됨에 따라 제주도 심부구조에 대한 접근이 가능해졌다. 그러나 제주도와 같은 섬환경에서는 주변 해양의 영향으로 저주파수 MT 자료가 왜곡되며, 이는 섬의 심부구조 규명을 어렵게 만드는 요인이다. 이 연구에서는 기존에 획득된 총 102 측점의 MT 자료에 대해 해양효과 보정을 실시하였다. 해양효과 보정은 1 Hz 이하에서 XY 모드와 YX 모드 전기비저항과 위상을 매우 유사하게 만들며, 전도성 하부지각의 존재를 명확하게 보여주었다. 제주도 남쪽 및 북쪽 측선의 보정된 MT 자료에 대해 2차원 역산을 수행한 결과, 평균적으로 깊이 20 km에서 고비저항 상부지각과 저비저항 하부지각의 경계를 명확히 확인할 수 있었다.

Frequency-Dependent Line Capacitance and Conductance Calculations of On-Chip Interconnects on Silicon Substrate Using Fourier cosine Series Approach

  • In this paper a method for analysis and modelling of coplanar transmission interconnect lines that are placed on top of silicon-silicon oxide substrates is presented. The potential function is expressed by series expansions in terms of solutions of the Laplace equation for each homogeneous region of layered structure. The expansion coefficients of different series are related to each other and to potentials applied to the conductors via boundary conditions. In the plane of conductors, boundary conditions are satisfied at $N_d$ discrete points with $N_d$ being equal to the number of terms in the series expansions. The resulting system of inhomogeneous linear equations is solved by matrix inversion. No iterations are required. A discussion of the calculated line admittance parameters as functions of width of conductors, thickness of the layers, and frequency is given. The interconnect capacitance and conductance per unit length results are given and compared with those obtained using full wave solutions, and good agreement have been obtained in all the cases treated
