  • During a scientific survey of Korean isopod fauna, we discovered two marine isopods, Limnoria segnoides Menzies, 1957 and Munna japonica Shimomura and Mawatari, 2001, which are new records to South Korea. Limnoria segnoides and M. japonica were collected by SCUBA diving from the subtidal zone of Jeju Island and Yangyang-gun in South Korea, respectively. In this paper, we provide diagnosis and illustrations of the two isopods. Additionally, we provide GenBank accession numbers of partial sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) of two species.

  • Two isopods, Elaphognathia lucanoides Monod, 1926 and Limnoria saseboensis Menzies, 1957, are newly recorded in Korean fauna. Elaphognathia lucanoides can be distinguished from its congeners by the following characteristics combined: the cephalon is strongly excavated on the anterior margin; the paraocular ornamentation is forming a ridge distinctly; and the mandible is longer than cephalon. Limnoria saseboensis differs from the related species by the following features: pleonite 5 has two parallel longitudinal carinae; the pleotelson has one or two pairs of tubercles and two carinae; and the tubercles are present on the posterior margin of the pleotelson. In this paper, detailed descriptions and figures of these two species are provided.

  • Two harpacticoid copepods, Pseudonsiella longicaudata. n. sp. and Xylora longiantennulata n. sp. belonging to the subfamily Donsiellinae are described. They were found in the wood infested by isopod of the genus Limnoria from the East Sea (Sea of Japan), Korea. The former species is characteristic in having the long caudal ramus and four setae on mandi bular basis. The latter one closely resembles X, nertica Hicks in general body form, but is clearly distinguished from X. nertica in that the antennule is much longer and the caudal ramus is longer, and leg 5 endopod bears four setae.
