  • A conventional electrolyzing cell has been made by an ion exchange membrane inbetween parallel plate electrodes. A low dc voltage is applied to the electrodes for electrolyzing and the efficiency is remained in low. in this study, a novel electrolyzing cell with a pair of slit-type third electrodes installed inbetween parallel plate electrodes has been proposed and investigated experimentally. And pulse power wa supplied to between each electrodes. This slit type of third electrodes can concentrate the strong electric fields at the every its edges to accelerate the electrolyzing powers, and to generate oxygen bubble discharges for generating oxidants. And moreover the slits eliminate the space charge limiting action and the temperature of the water by leaking out through the slits from electrolyzing region to outside of the main electrode region. As a result, it was found that a strong electorzed water of pH 2.8 and pH 10.5 and oxidants dissolved water of 1 [ppm] in acidic water were obtained with a tap water fed at the electric current of 2 [A], which however were several times higher oxidant and ion concentration quantity compared with the conventional cell.

  • Some worker is occupationally exposed to cold and freezing environment. The cold stimuli in the working environment impose physiological and psychological loads on workers to decrease the task performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cold stimuli of cold and freezing stores widely used in Busan can make an effect on human's physiological responses and task performance, experimentally and analytically. In the experiment, 5 workers are selected as subjects, and then their skin temperatures of hand and ear, heart rates, blood pressure, and ring test performances in cold($3^{\circ}C$) and freezing($-22^{\circ}C$) stores were measured for 21 minutes and analyzed by using statistical method. It is observed that a physiological variation and the task performance are significantly influenced by an exposure time as well as a strength of cold stimuli. Also, it is suggested the exposure limiting times for the useful manual work and the performance predict model of the ring tasks. The result of this study will be useful for a fundamental data of which design the standard task time of manual tasks and solve the job placement problem of worker selection and placement in cold environment.

  • To reduce the power loss in normal state, non-inductively wound high temperature superconducting (HTS) coils are used for fault current limiter (FCL) application. Non-inductively wound coils can be classified into two types: solenoid type and pancake type. These two types have different electrical and thermal and mechanical characteristics due to their winding structure difference. This paper deals with the current limiting characteristics, magnetic field analysis of the two coils. Simulation using finite element method (FEM) was used to analyze the magnetic field distribution and inductance of the coils. Short circuit test using stabilizer-free coated conductor (CC) was also carried out. We can compare the characteristics of the two types of coil by using the data obtained from simulation and short circuit test. We confirmed the feasibility of FCL application by the analysis about the characteristics of non-inductively wound coil using CC.

  • This study was conducted to assess the growth characteristics of phytoplankton and to understand seasonal dynamics of phytoplankton in response to limiting nutrients in an agricultural reservoir from November 2002 to December 2003. Marked increase of chl.a concentration observed in July ($99.0{\mu}g/L$) and November ($109.7{\mu}g/L$) after heavy rainfall. TP concentration ranged $48.0{\sim}126.6{\mu}g/L$, and its the temporal variation was similar to that of chl.a concentration. Microcystis spp., dominant phytoplankton species were used for the growth kinetics experiment, except for the season when Aulacoseira spp. (March, April) and Aphanocapsa sp. (May) dominated. In the temperature range between $10{\sim}25^{\circ}C$, the rate of growth increase per $10^{\circ}C$ was almost two folds. The highest maximum growth rate (${\mu}_{max}=1.09day^{-1}$) of phytoplankton observed September, and ${\mu}_{max}$ was lowest ($0.34day^{-1}$) in March when Aulacoseira spp. dominated. The ${\mu}_{max}$ ($0.78{\pm}0.20day^{-1}$) was relatively high in the summer season when water temperature is above $20^{\circ}C$ and cyanobacteria dominated compared to the spring when diatoms dominated ($0.43{\pm}0.08day^{-1}$). The maximum growth rate ($0.55{\pm}0.12day^{-1}$) and the half saturation concentration ($K_s=0.73{\pm}0.15{\mu}M$) of cyanobacteria during winter season (November, December) was higher than those of diatoms. However, the ${\mu}_{max}$ and $K_s$ of cyanobacteria in December was similar to those of diatom, reflecting that diatom cell quota (Mean 48.4 pgP/cell) was greater than cyanobacteria (34.0 pgP/cell) during this time.

  • The effects of temperature and acetonitrile (ACN) concentration on microwave-assisted weak-acid hydrolysis of proteins were investigated. Myoglobin was hydrolyzed for 1 h using 2% formic acid and a microwave with different concentrations of ACN (0, 5, and 10%) at various temperatures (50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and $100^{\circ}C$). The numbers of peptides identified with each concentration of ACN were the same for each temperature. The greatest number of peptides (18 total) was obtained with hydrolysis at $100^{\circ}C$, and 6 of these were a result of additional removal of aspartic acid at the C-terminus. Hydrolysis at $80^{\circ}C$ resulted in 13 peptides, of which only 1 was generated by the additional removal of aspartic acid, and 12 were observed with hydrolysis at $100^{\circ}C$. Our results demonstrate that microwave-assisted weak-acid hydrolysis of proteins can be performed successfully at $80^{\circ}C$, which could be beneficial for limiting side reactions and generating larger peptide sequences.

  • The three endophytes, Blastophysa rhizopus, Bolbocoleon piliferum, Ulvella leptochaete, were isolated in a laboratory culture from a Grateloupia lanceolata thallus collected in Jeju. Effects of temperature and irradiance on growth and infection of the three species, were examined. Based on the unialgal cultures, their growth was examined under six temperatures (9, 13, 17, 21, 25, $29^{\circ}C$) and two irradiance levels (60, $100{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$). Also, infection experiments to the five hosts (Ulva intestinalis, Scytosiphon lomentaria, Gracilaria verimiculophylla, Chondrus ocellatus, and Grateloupia elliptica) with three endophytes were carried out under four temperatures (10, 15, 20, $25^{\circ}C$) and two irradiance levels (60, $100{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$). In culture of the endophytes, optimum growth was found in $100{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ in combination with $21^{\circ}C$. At the end of infection experiment, endophytes were observed at all the hosts. Among three endophytes, U. leptochaete was the most common at the five hosts. However, we did not observe any endophytes at all hosts tested under $10^{\circ}C$ condition. Based on this result, it appears that temperature acts as a limiting factor to infection of the three species.

  • We have deposited ZnO thin films by ultraviolet (UV) enhanced atomic layer deposition using diethylznic (DEZ) and water (H2O) as precursors with UV light. The atomic layer deposition relies on alternating dose of the precursor on the surface and subsequent chemisorption of the precursors with self-limiting growth mechanism. Though ALD is useful to deposition conformal and precise thin film, the surface reactions of the atomic layer deposition are not completed at low temperature in many cases. In this experiment, we focused on the effects of UV radiation during the ALD process on the properties of the inorganic thin films. The surface reactions were found to be complementary enough to yield uniform inorganic thin films and fully react between DEZ and H2O at the low temperature by using UV irradiation. The UV light was effective to obtain conductive ZnO film. And the stability of TFT with UV-enhanced ZnO was improved than ZnO by thermal ALD method. High conductive UV-enhanced ZnO film have the potential to applicability of the transparent electrode.

  • The dried sea tangle added for soup prepatation to improved the taste in Korean and Japaness for long time. Attempts were made to develop the best procedures for extraction and removal of alginate by ultrafiltration and diafiltration. The summerized results of this study are as follows: 1) For hot water extraction in temperature range of 60~100$^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours, the higher temperature resulted higher yields in solids and protein. 2) Optimum sea tangle hot water extraction condition were 60~65$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour which was cheap operating cost and high yield of good taste components. 3) The membrane flux was more higher GR 51 PP. and increase of flow rate permeate flow rate was accordingly increased. but limiting flow volume was 3.7 l/min. 4) It was found that ultration was relatively of higher recovery rate, solid and taste components, and low rejection coefficient rate than diafiltration.

  • The warm deep drawability in square cup drawing is investigated about a newly developed high-strength steel sheet with retained austenite which is transformed into martensite during forming. For this investigation, six steps of temperature ranges, from room temperature to $250^{\circ}C$, and five kinds of drawing ratio, from 2.2 to 2.6 were adopted. As a result the maximum drawing force and the maximum drawing depth were affected by the elevated temperatures, and the more stable thickness strain distribution was observed to the elevated temperatures. But blue shortness happened over $200^{\circ}C$. The FEM analysis using the LS-DYNA code is adopted to compare the experimental results with the analytical results for thickness strain distribution.

  • Direct safety injection into the reactor vessel downcomer annulus(DVI) is a fundamental feature of the KNGR(Korean Next Generation Reactor) four-train safety injection system. The numerical analysis of thermal mixing of ECC(Emergency Core Cooling) water through DVI with the water in the RVDC(Reactor Vessel Downcomer) annulus has been performed, in order to study the impact of nozzle location on the pressurized thermal shock and safety analysis. The results of this study show that the thermal mixing due to the natural circulation induced by the limiting accident conditions is sufficient to prevent temperature in the RVDC from dropping to the level of concern for PTS. When the DVI nozzle is located right above the cold leg, the temperature distribution at the outlet of flow field is most uniform. The tool used for numerical analysis is CFDS-FLOW3D.
