Amino acid imbalances refer to the deleterious effects that occur when a second-limiting amino acid or mixture of amino acid lacking a particular limiting amino acid is supplemented in diets marginal in one or more indispensable amino acids. In spite of variation in the conditions that have been used to induce amino acid imbalances, such as protein level in the diet, the extent of difference in total nitrogen content between basal and imbalanced diets, and kinds of amino acids used as imbalancing agents, the conspicuous common features of amino acid imbalances have been a decreased concentration of the limiting amino acid in blood, depression of feed intake and weight gain, and increased dietary content of the limiting amino acid needed to correct the imbalances. There is strong evidence that a decrease in the concentration of a limiting amino acid detected in the anterior prepyriform cortex of the brain is followed by behavioral effects, especially a decrease in feed intake. This might be due to the competition between the limiting amino acid and the amino acids in the imbalancing mixture for transport from blood into brain. One of the biochemical responses of animals fed amino acid imbalanced diets is a rapid decrease in the concentration of the limiting amino acid, which are due in part to an increase in catabolism of the limiting amino acid by the increased activities of enzymes involved in the catabolism of the amino acid. Practically, specific amino acid imbalances could be induced in swine and poultry diets that have been supplemented with lysine, methionine, tryptophan when threonine, isoleucine, valine, etc. are potentially third- or fourth-limiting in diets. In these cases supplementation of the limiting amino acid could be beneficial in preventing the decrease of feed intake that could otherwise occur as a result of amino acid imbalance.
Electrodialysis (ED) is known to be a useful membrane process for desalination, concentration, separation, and purification in many fields. In this process, it is desirable to work at high current density in order to achieve fast desalination with the lowest possible effective membrane area. In practice, however, operating currents are restricted by the occurrence of concentration polarization phenomena. Many studies showed the occurrence of a limiting current density (LCD). The limiting current density in the electrodialysis process is an important parameter which determines the electrical resistance and the current utilization. Therefore, its reliable determination is required for designing an efficient electrodialysis plant. The purpose of this study is the development of a predictive model of the limiting current density in an electrodialysis process using response surface methodology (RSM). A two-factor central composite design (CCD) of RSM was used to analyze the effect of operation conditions (the initial salt concentration (C) and the linear flow velocity of solution to be treated (u)) on the limiting current density and to establish a regression model. All experiments were carried out on synthetic brackish water solutions using a laboratory scale electrodialysis cell. The limiting current density for each experiment was determined using the Cowan-Brown method. A suitable regression model for predicting LCD within the ranges of variables used was developed based on experimental results. The proposed mathematical quadratic model was simple. Its quality was evaluated by regression analysis and by the Analysis Of Variance, popularly known as the ANOVA.
The distribution of Spirodela polyrhiza and Lemna aequinoctialis was investigated and the limiting factors on the distribution were analyzed. At 66 sites in Korea, the presense or absense of duckweed were recorded and the water was sampled. The temperature, hardness, pH and contents of N, , , Na, K, Ca, Cu, Mg, Zn, Fe, Ni, Mn and Cd of water sampled were analyzed. The results were as follows; It seemed that the limiting factors influencing on the distribution was water temperature and concentration of . The critical temperature of the distribution of Spirodela and Lemna was presented 19.5$^{\circ}C$ and concentration of was limiting factor only in the distribution of S. polyrhiza. L. aequinoctialis was distributed in lower temperature than S. polyrhiza and it seemed that the distribution of L. aequinoctialis was not be influenced by the concentration of .
This study was performed in Hartmann type dust explosion apparatus in order to research the dust explosion characteristics of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose(HPMC): minimum explosive limit, minimum ignition energy, limiting oxygen concentration, maximum explosion pressure, rate of pressure rise, etc. The samples of HPMC dust were distributed into 120-140 mesh, 170-230 mesh and 325 under, and the gap distance of the discharge electrode was setted up at 5mm. The experimental results were obtained as follows: (1) The minimum explosive limit for HPMC dust was founded at 180g/㎥. the minimum ignition energy at 9.8mJ and the limiting oxygen concentration at 12%. (2) The maximum explosion pressure of HPMC dust was $8.1kg/cm^2\;{\cdot}\;$abs at the concentration of $500g/m^3$ and the maximum rate of pressure rise was 203.98 bar/sec at the concentration of $480g/m^3$ for 325 under.
In this work, the heterogeneous ion exchange membrane was used in a electrodialysis apparatus to treat a Ni planting rinse water because the heterogeneous ion exchange membrane was excellent efficiency as compared with low manufacturing cost, was easy to make, and had a good mechanical properties. For a regeneration of membrane and to obtain the optimal condition for a scale-up of apparatus after treating Ni plating rinse water, we would find about the limiting current density and the concentration polarization. When the Ni plating rinse water 150mg/L was treated with the electrodialysis apparatus using the heterogeneous ion exchange membrane, the limiting current density was about $1.49{\;}mA/\textrm{cm}^2$. And the limiting current density increased with the flow rate and concentration of Ni plating rinse water. We recognized that the used membrane could be reused by periodic backwashing because efficiency was constant when the membrane was backwashed after treating wastewater.
The salt concentration process in electrodialysis, which uses electrical energy to enhance ion concentrations in an aqueous electrolyte solution, has been studied on the transfer phenomenon of ions and water molecules over the ion exchange membrane. In this paper, we investigated various parameters for limiting concentration of electrolyte solution and the electroosmosis phenomenon in an electrodialysis system by varying salt concentration of electrolyte solution. The electroosmotic water transport was analyzed by measuring the ions and water fluxes in electrolyte solutions having two different NaCl concentrations (NaCl 2M/4M), and concentration change was observed for various volume ratios of the diluted reservoir to the concentration one As a result, it was found that the higher concentration of the aqueous electrolyte solution, the lower electroosmosis, and the higher volume ratio led to a higher concentration in the dilute reservoir, so the limiting concentration was enhanced and the specific energy consumption decreased.
Critical nitrogen concentration (Nc), which is defined as the minimum % N in shoots required to maintain the maximum growth rate of top dry weight (W) at any time, was determined for rice plant. Using two rice varietal groups, japonica varieties and an indica $\times$ japonica "Dasanbyeo", 18 data points fulfilling the statistical criteria for determining Nc were obtained through eight N-fertilization experiments over two years at Suwon (37$^{\circ}$16'N), Korea. Nc dilution curve for each variety was obtained by fitting the Nc-W relationship to power function. However, The critical nitrogen curves for the two variety groups were not different statistically. Thus, a Nc dilution curve was fitted for the Nc data points pooled over the two variety groups and proposed in rice as: Nc=4.08, where W<1.73 t h $a^{-1}$ , Nc=5.197 $W^{0.425}$3/ ($R^2$=0.964), where 1.73 t h $a^{-1}$ <W<12 t h $a^{-l}$. The Nc for W<1.73 t h $a^{-l}$ were estimated as a constant value of 4.08%, the mean value of the maximum N concentration for N-limiting condition and the minimum N concentration for N non-limiting condition. The model for Nc is applicable to diagnosing the nitrogen nutrition status during the rice growth period from emergence to heading stage. The Nc curve well discriminated the 144 data points between the N limiting and the N non-limiting groups regardless of varieties, cultural methods, and years.-limiting groups regardless of varieties, cultural methods, and years.
The minimum ignition temperature at which the dust cloud can spontaneously ignite is considered to be very important in industries to prevent explosion occurring in hot surfaces. This paper has dealt with the experimental study of the determination of minimum ignition temperature of Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) dust cloud. We have used the Godbert-Greenwald Furnace Apparatus to determine the ignition temperature and limiting oxyten concentration for dust could. The experimental determinations on the minimum ignition temperature were carried out with various particle size with nominal diameters 45, 75 and 106${\mu}m$. The limiting oxygen concentration of dust cloud was determinated for the smaller size(45${\mu}m$) HPMC. Minimum ignition temperature of dust cloud was at 364$^{\circ}C$ for the concentration of 2.5g/L in the air and became higher with the increasing of nitrogen concentration. It was also found that the ignition didn't occur when the oxygen concentration was below 10%, and limiting oxygen concentration is at 11%.

Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is a green algae that can use light energy and water to produce hydrogen under anaerobic condition. This work reports the effect of limiting factors on hydrogen production in sulfur deprived anaerobic C. reinhardtii culture. In order to confirm the relationship between hydrogen production and limiting factors such as residual PSII activity and endogenic substrate degradation, the increase in chlorophyll concentration and the decrease in starch concentration was investigated during sulfur deprivation. The overall hydrogen production increased depending on cell density in range of $0.4{\sim}0.96\;g$ DCW/l. At this time, the increase in chlorophyll concentration during 24 h after sulfur deprivation increased in proportion to hydrogen production, however, the decrease in starch concentration was not proportional to that. Therefore, hydrogen production under sulfur deprivation using green alga was closely associated with the residual PSII activity than the endogenic substrate degradation.
To evaluate the feasibility of electrodialysis for copper removal from industrial wastewater, the effect of operating parameters on the removal of copper was experimentally estimated. The limiting current density (LCD) linearly increased with the copper concentration and the flow rate. The time when the copper concentration of diluate reaches to 3 mg/L was linearly proportional to initial concentration of diluate, and the concentration of concentrate did not affect the removal rate. Increase in the flow rate gave a positive effect on the removal rate and became insignificant at flow rates greater than 2.4 L/min. The removal rate increased with the applied voltage. From the operation of the electrodialysis module used in this research, the flow rate of 2.4 L/min and the voltage corresponding to the 80~90% of LCD were found be the optimum operating condition for the copper removal from highly concentrated copper solutions.
