In labor-intensive enterprise, such as garment factory, assembly line is widely used as a manufacturing process for reducing costs and production time. However, for the sake of the various working capacity of worker, idle or delay may happen and influence the rear processes. If these unforeseeable delay happened continuously, it may influence the whole manufacturing process and a model, which is called limited-cycle model with multiple periods (LCMwMP), is assumed to evaluate the influence risk. In order to minimize the risk, the assignment of the workers is focused on. In this paper, we deal with an assembly line as LCMwMP model when two kinds of workers exist, whose efficiency is assumed to two different groups. We consider an optimization problem for finding an assignment of workers to the line that minimizes total expected risk, which is exchanged to expected cost by reset model of LCMwMP. First, reset model as a simple model of LCMwMP is introduced. Then, some hypotheses of the rules of the optimal worker assignment are proposed and some numerical experiments are researched assuming the processing time as Erlang distribution. Finally, the other rules on other certain conditions are discussed.
As buildings become larger and more complicated, construction costs have increased with a considerable effect on buildings' Life Cycle Cost (LCC). However, there has been little consideration on economic aspects in the selection of construction materials due to limited information on the materials and dependency in architects' experience and inefficiency in cost estimation, causing design changes, increase in maintenance cost, difficulty in budgeting, and decrease in building performance. To solve these problems, this study proposed a BIM-based material selection model which reflects the comprehensive economic efficiency of building materials. Our cost prediction model can estimates the material-related cost during the entire building life cycle. Furthermore, we implemented the proposed model in connection with BIM, which can analyze and compare LCC by material. Through the validation of the model, we could confirm the necessity of LCC-based material selection in comparison with the conventional cost-centered material selection.
We predicted the calendar aging and long-term lifetime of lithium-ion batteries using an electrochemical-based SEI growth model. Numerical simulation was carried out employing the four different long-term SEI growth models (i.e., solvent diffusion limited model, electron migration limited model, Li-interstitial diffusion limited model, reaction limited model), and we calculated the capacity fade and loss of lithium inventory during calendar aging. The result showed that the electron migration limited model and Li-interstitial diffusion limited model showed lower capacity fade, while the solvent diffusion limited model and reaction limited model reached 80% of capacity fade within 10 years. During calendar aging, the lower storage temperature showed less capacity fade due to the hindrance of SEI growth rate. During cycling, the higher C-rate showed a shorter life cycle; however, the differences were not significant.

In this paper, we examine Interleaved Polling with Adaptive Cycle Time (IPACT) algorithm which was proposed to control upstream traffic for Gigabit Ethernet-PONs, and we analyze the performance of the gated service and the limited service of the IPACT mathematically. For the mathematical performance analysis, we model IPACT algorithm as a polling system and use mean-value analysis. We divide arrival rate λ value into three regions and analyze each region accordingly. We obtain average packet delay, average queue size and average cycle time of both the gated and the limited service. We compare analytical results with simulation to verify the accuracy of the mathematical analysis. Upon now, simulation analysis have been used to evaluate the performance of EPONs, which require much time sud effort. Mathematical analysis can be widely used in the design of EPON systems since system designers can obtain various performance results rapidly.
A way how to teach a general understanding of switched mode power supplies (SMPS) is shown. A fourth order PWM DC-to-DC converter with limited duty cycle range is treated as an example and a survey over important data (maximum voltage and current ratings for the elements, rms- values for the semiconductor devices and a rough approximation of the losses) of the circuit is given. Furthermore, a converter model based on duty ratio averaging is established. Continuous mode of operation is used. The results make it possible to estimate the applicability of the given converter structure and offer sufficient material for the calculation, design, and analysis and give a better insight into switched mode energy conversion.

This paper focuses on the computational study of nonlinear effects of unsteady aerodynamics for non-classical aileron buzz. It aims at a comprehensive investigation of the aileron buzz phenomenon under varying flow parameters using the describing function technique with multiple inputs. The limit cycle oscillatory behavior of an asymmetrical airfoil is studied initially using a CFD-based numerical model and direct time marching. Sharp increases in limit cycle amplitude for varying Mach numbers and angles of attack are investigated. An aerodynamic describing function is developed in order to estimate the variation of limit cycle amplitude and frequency with Mach number and angle of attack directly, without time marching. The describing function results are compared to the amplitudes and frequencies predicted by the CFD calculations for validation purposes. Furthermore, a limited sensitivity analysis is presented to demonstrate the potential of the approach for aeroelastic design.
Purpose - This study quantifies sources of trade balance dynamics over the business cycle in Korea. Specifically, we quantify the relative importance of domestic and foreign factors on trade balance dynamics using a small open economy real business cycle (SOE-RBC) model and provide policy implications for stabilization policies. Aggregate productivity and interest rate spreads are considered domestic factors affecting the trade balance. A world interest rate (the U.S. interest rate) is considered a foreign factor. Design/methodology - Following Neumeyer and Perri (2005), we build the SOE-RBC model with three types of shocks: aggregate productivity, interest rate spread, and world interest shocks. The model is estimated by the generalized method of moments (GMM) using relevant business cycle statistics. The estimated model is used for quantifying the relative importance of domestic and foreign factors on trade balance dynamics in Korea. Findings - Our main findings can be summarized as follows: 85.64% of the trade balance fluctuations in Korea are explained by domestic factors, the remaining 14.35% by foreign factors. Particularly, trade balance dynamics are mostly accounted for by the change in aggregate productivity shocks (85.58%). World interest rate shocks considerably explain trade balance (14.35%), whereas the role of interest rate spread shocks that represent domestic risks is limited (0.08%). Although aggregate productivity is key in explaining trade balance dynamics in Korea, interest rates still have an essential role. This is because aggregate productivity changes induce interest rate spread variations and, thus, the trade balance significantly. The results suggest that government policies mitigating fluctuations in aggregate productivity would be effective for stabilization policies in Korea by reducing the trade balance volatility. Originality/value - Existing studies on the emerging market business cycle examine mostly Latin American countries, and the main object of the studies is the volatility of consumption rather than trade balance dynamics. Conversely, our study examines Korea rather than Latin American countries. Additionally, we examine sources of trade balance dynamics, which are relatively more important in Korea, rather than those of the volatility of consumption. Hence, we estimate the model to explicitly match moments related to trade balance in the data.
Costs have long since become a major issue in railway system analysis, attention is not limited to the acquisition costs alone, but encompasses all costs involved in the use and disposal of the systems. Concepts such as Life Cycle Cost(LCC), Costs Of Ownership(COO), or Total Ownership Cost(TOC) are more and more frequent in any document dealing with system analysis. Most of railway projects have applied this LCC Model to evaluate effectiveness of system acquisition cost. But these action of LCC model does not applied all the rest of system life cycle period due to the differences of its responsibility. This is why a study has been undertaken by the operation party to harmonize the most important aspects of the LCC model. This study focused on these and other objectives for introduction of method and needs for an action plan for maintenance actions involved relevant cost allocation.
In recent days, global shipbuilding companies have been showing great interest in eco-friendly ship products and trying to reduce environmental pollution - harmful gas and dust in shipbuilding process. Following this trend, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was carried out to an application of shipyards layout. LCA is a technique used to assess environmental impacts during the life cycle of products and systems. Until now, LCA has been used through ISO 14040 in somewhat limited industries, such as Building Life Cycle Assessment. Thus, this study analyzes the shipyard layout planning framework and builds life cycle inventory along with the simulation model structure to evaluate environmental impacts.

In this paper, we investigate the comparative performance of two leading object detection architectures, YOLOv7 and Detection Transformer (DETR), across varying levels of data augmentation using CycleGAN. Our experiments focus on chest scan images within the context of biomedical informatics, specifically targeting the detection of abnormalities. The study reveals that YOLOv7 consistently outperforms DETR across all levels of augmented data, maintaining better performance even with 75% augmented data. Additionally, YOLOv7 demonstrates significantly faster convergence, requiring approximately 30 epochs compared to DETR's 300 epochs. These findings underscore the superiority of YOLOv7 for object detection tasks, especially in scenarios with limited data and when rapid convergence is essential. Our results provide valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in the field of computer vision, highlighting the effectiveness of YOLOv7 and the importance of data augmentation in improving model performance and efficiency.
