In this paper, we describe the starting and synchronizing methods in the linear induction synchronous motor. The proposed motor consists of one pair of linear synchronous motors (LSMs) and an additional linear induction motor (LIM). The primary cores have a common ring winding, and solid conductors are arranged in both LIM and LSM. From the investigation by analysis and experiment, we verify that the proposed motor is effective for practical use.

Ribes diacanthum Pall (RDP) is a member of the Saxifragaceae family. The plant is traditionally used in Mongolia for the treatment of various ailments associated with kidney and bladder's diseases, cystitis, kidney stone, and edema. This study was aimed to investigate antioxidant activities of different solvent extracts of whole Pall plants, based on ferric-reducing antioxidant potential (FRAP), 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethybenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) ($ABTS{\cdot}+$) radical scavenging activity, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrydrazyl ($DPPH{\cdot}$), and hydroxyl (${\cdot}OH$) radical scavenging activities. Additionally, total flavonoids and phenolic contents (TPC) were also determined. The ethyl acetate extract of RDP (EARDP) had a remarkable radical scavenging capacity with an $IC_{50}$ value of 0.1482 mg/mL. In addition, EARDP was shown to be higher in total phenolic and flavonoid contents than the methanol extract of RDP (MRDP). Moreover, the EARDP had the predominant antioxidant capacity, DPPH, hydroxyl, and ABTS radical scavenging activities and ferric reducing power. These results suggest a potential for R. diacanthum Pall extract as a functional medicinal material against free-radical-associated oxidative damage.

This study investigated the cross-sectional and longitudinal association between adenovirus 36 (Ad36) and obesity in 79 Korean adolescent boys over 1 year. We analyzed the changes in body composition and metabolic risk factors according to the presence of Ad36 antibodies. Ad36 antibodies in serum were detected using the constant virus-decreasing serum method. We found that the fat percentage and fasting insulin in the Ad36-seropositive group were greater than the Ad36-seronegative group. These results suggest that Ad36 infection is associated with an increase of adiposity, and the experience of Ad36 infection may affect the future fat gain of adolescents.

Lhx8 (LIM homeobox 8) gene encodes a LIM homeodomain transcriptional regulator that is preferentially expressed in germ cells and critical for mammalian folliculogenesis. However, Lhx8 DNA binding sequences are not characterized yet. We aimed to identify and characterize a cis-acting sequence of germ-cell specific transcriptional factor, Lhx8. To identify Lhx8 DNA binding element, Cyclic Amplification of Sequence Target (CAST) Analysis was performed. Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay (EMSA) was processed for the binding specificity of Lhx8. Luciferase assay was for the transcriptional activity of Lhx8 through identified DNA binding site. We identified a putative cis-acting sequence, TGATTG as Lhx8 DNA binding element (LBE). In addition, Lhx8 binds to the LBE with high affinity and augments transcriptional activity of luciferase reporter driven by artificial promoter containing the Lhx8 binding element. These findings indicate that Lhx8 directly regulates the transcription of genes containing Lhx8 binding element in oocytes during early folliculogenesis.

본 논문에서는 스마트 기기를 이용하는 아이 엄마를 타겟층으로 정하고 분석하여 육아를 할 때 다양한 정보를 필요로 하는 초보엄마들을 위해서 실생활에서 사용할 수 있는 육아용 모바일 앱을 기획, 설계, 구현하였다. 초보엄마들을 위해 필요한 정보를 제공하며 아이의 이유식 정보를 등록할 수 있는 캘린더 기능과 아이에게 필요한 이유식 레시피를 제공할 뿐만 아니라, 가까운 병원과 편의시설의 위치서비스와 함께 병원의 정보까지 제공하였다. 또한 우리아이 발달사항을 그래프로 보여주면서 아이의 성장발달을 한 눈에 알아 볼 수 있게 하였다. 그리고 음악을 통해 육아로 지친 초보엄마들을 위해서 마음에 정서적 안정감과 편안함을 심어준다. 초보엄마들이 필요로 하는 기능들을 모아 편리성과 가용성을 극대화 하여 구현하였다.

The effects of boronic acid on the fluoride-selective chemosignaling behavior of a merocyanine dye were investigated. In the presence of phenylboronic acid (PBA), N-methylquinolinium-based merocyanine dye displayed fluoride-selective chromogenic signaling behavior over other commonly coexisting anions in the micromolar concentration range. Signaling is produced by a fluoride-induced displacement of the dye from its complex with PBA, resulting in a significant chromogenic signal for the fluoride ion. This signaling was successfully analyzed using a ratiometric analysis of the UV-vis absorption in response to changes in fluoride ion concentration. A PBA substituted with an electron withdrawing group was found to exhibit a more pronounced signal. Polymer-bound PBA also exhibited useful fluoride-selective signaling behavior.

Two new chemosensors 1 and 2 derived from 5,12- and 5,7-dioxocyclams were prepared and their signaling behaviors toward transition metal ions were investigated. Chemosensors 1 and 2 showed very efficient responses toward $Cu_{2+}$ and $Hg_{2+}$ ions. Ratiometric analysis of the fluorescence changes in pyrene monomer and excimer emissions clearly demonstrated the $Cu_{2+}$- and $Hg_{2+}$-selective signaling behavior. The signaling mechanism of the chemosensors is due to conformation changes upon complexation with metal ions and the inherent quenching nature of the complexed $Cu_{2+}$ and $Hg_{2+}$ ions themselves.

Japanese-B viral encephalitis (JE) usually has a monophasic illness pattern. A 45-year-old woman in an altered mentality had improved over 1 month. About 1 week after the initial improvement, the patient became comatose with aggravated EEG and MRI findings. Assays of cerebrospinal fluid and serum were positive for the IgM antibody to Japanese-B virus. After intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) infusion, the patient recovered. We report a patient with JE who showed a biphasic illness pattern and recovered after IVIG therapy.
