This paper proposes the design and implementation results for human and object classification systems utilizing frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar sensor. Such a system requires the process of radar sensor signal processing for multi-target detection and the process of deep learning for the classification of human and object. Since deep learning requires such a great amount of computation and data processing, the lightweight process is utmost essential. Therefore, binary neural network (BNN) structure was adopted, operating convolution neural network (CNN) computation in a binary condition. In addition, for the real-time operation, a hardware accelerator was implemented and verified via FPGA platform. Based on performance evaluation and verified results, it is confirmed that the accuracy for multi-target classification of 90.5%, reduced memory usage by 96.87% compared to CNN and the run time of 5ms are achieved.
In this paper, a human activity regeneration (HAR) system based on multiple input multiple output frequency modulation continuous wave (MIMO FMCW) radar was designed and implemented. Using point cloud data from MIMO radar sensors has advantages in terms of privacy, safety, and accuracy. For the implementation of the HAR system, a customized neural network based on PointPillars and depthwise separate convolutional neural network (DS-CNN) was developed. By processing high-resolution point cloud data through a lightweight network, high accuracy and efficiency were achieved. As a result, the accuracy of 98.27% and the computational complexity of 11.27M multiply-accumulates (Macs) were achieved. In addition, the developed neural network model was implemented on Raspberry-Pi embedded system and it was confirmed that point cloud data can be processed at a speed of up to 8 fps.

As a research hotspot, pedestrian detection has a wide range of applications in the field of computer vision in recent years. However, current pedestrian detection methods have problems such as insufficient detection accuracy and large models that are not suitable for large-scale deployment. In view of these problems mentioned above, a lightweight pedestrian detection and early warning method using a new model called you only look once (Yolov5) is proposed in this paper, which utilizing advantages of Yolov5s model to achieve accurate and fast pedestrian recognition. In addition, this paper also optimizes the loss function of the batch normalization (BN) layer. After sparsification, pruning and fine-tuning, got a lot of optimization, the size of the model on the edge of the computing power is lower equipment can be deployed. Finally, from the experimental data presented in this paper, under the training of the road pedestrian dataset that we collected and processed independently, the Yolov5s model has certain advantages in terms of precision and other indicators compared with traditional single shot multiBox detector (SSD) model and fast region-convolutional neural network (Fast R-CNN) model. After pruning and lightweight, the size of training model is greatly reduced without a significant reduction in accuracy, and the final precision reaches 87%, while the model size is reduced to 7,723 KB.
As artificial intelligence(AI) technologies, which have made rapid growth recently, began to be applied to the marine environment such as ships, there have been active researches on the application of CNN-based models specialized for digital videos. In E-Navigation service, which is combined with various technologies to detect floating objects of clash risk to reduce human errors and prevent fires inside ships, real-time processing is of huge importance. More functions added, however, mean a need for high-performance processes, which raises prices and poses a cost burden on shipowners. This study thus set out to propose a method capable of processing information at a high rate while maintaining the accuracy by applying Quantization techniques of a deep learning model. First, videos were pre-processed fit for the detection of floating matters in the sea to ensure the efficient transmission of video data to the deep learning entry. Secondly, the quantization technique, one of lightweight techniques for a deep learning model, was applied to reduce the usage rate of memory and increase the processing speed. Finally, the proposed deep learning model to which video pre-processing and quantization were applied was applied to various embedded boards to measure its accuracy and processing speed and test its performance. The proposed method was able to reduce the usage of memory capacity four times and improve the processing speed about four to five times while maintaining the old accuracy of recognition.
Pigs express their reactions to their environment and health status through a variety of sounds, such as grunting, coughing, and screaming. Given the significance of pig vocalizations, their study has recently become a vital source of data for livestock industry workers. To facilitate this, we propose a lightweight deep learning model based on MobileNet that analyzes pig vocal patterns to distinguish pig voices from farm noise and differentiate between vocal sounds and coughing. This model was able to accurately identify pig vocalizations amidst a variety of background noises and cough sounds within the pigsty. Test results demonstrated that this model achieved a high accuracy of 98.2%. Based on these results, future research is expected to address issues such as analyzing pig emotions and identifying stress levels.

Although the global number of landmines is on a declining trend, the damages caused by previously buried landmines persist. In light of this, the present study contemplates solutions to issues and constraints that may arise due to the improvement of mine detection equipment and the reduction in the number of future soldiers. Current mine detectors lack data storage capabilities, posing limitations on data collection for research purposes. Additionally, practical data collection in real-world environments demands substantial time and manpower. Therefore, in this study, gprMax simulation was utilized to generate data. The lightweight CNN-based model, MobileNet, was trained and validated with real data, achieving a high identification rate of 97.35%. Consequently, the potential integration of technologies such as deep learning and simulation into geographical detection equipment is highlighted, offering a pathway to address potential future challenges. The study aims to somewhat alleviate these issues and anticipates contributing to the development of our military capabilities in becoming a future scientific and technological force.
This paper presents a novel lightweight object detection model tailored for low-powered edge devices, addressing the limitations of traditional resource-intensive computer vision models. Our proposed detector, inspired by the Single Shot Detector (SSD), employs a compact yet robust network design. Crucially, it integrates an 'enhancer block' that significantly boosts its efficiency in detecting smaller objects. The model comprises two primary components: the Light_Block for efficient feature extraction using Depth-wise and Pointwise Convolution layers, and the Enhancer_Block for enhanced detection of tiny objects. Trained from scratch on the Udacity Annotated Dataset with image dimensions of 300x480, our model eschews the need for pre-trained classification weights. Weighing only 5.5MB with approximately 0.43M parameters, our detector achieved a mean average precision (mAP) of 27.7% and processed at 140 FPS, outperforming conventional models in both precision and efficiency. This research underscores the potential of lightweight designs in advancing object detection for edge devices without compromising accuracy.
Speaker recognition refers to a technology that analyzes voice frequencies that are different for each individual and compares them with pre-stored voices to determine the identity of the person. Deep learning-based speaker recognition is being applied to many fields, and pet robots are one of them. However, the hardware performance of pet robots is very limited in terms of the large memory space and calculations of deep learning technology. This is an important problem that pet robots must solve in real-time interaction with users. Lightening deep learning models has become an important way to solve the above problems, and a lot of research is being done recently. In this paper, we describe the results of research on lightweight speaker recognition for pet robots by constructing a voice data set for pet robots, which is a specific command type, and comparing the results of models using residuals. In the conclusion, we present the results of the proposed method and Future research plans are described.
In this paper, to solve the large dataset problem, we collect images through an image collection method called web crawling and build datasets for use in image classification models through a data preprocessing process. We also propose a lightweight model that can automatically classify images by adding category values by incorporating transfer learning into the image classification model and an image classification model that reduces training time and achieves high accuracy.
