  • The OLEDs(Organic Light-Emitting Diodes) structure organizes the bottom layer using glass, ITO(indium thin oxide), hole injection layer, hole transport layer, emitting material layer, electron transport layer, electron injection layer and cathode using metal. OLED has various advantages. OLEDs research has been divided into structural side and emitting material side. The amount of emitting light and luminescence efficiency has been improved by continuing effort for emitting material layer. The emitting light mechanism of OLEDs consists of electrons and holes injected from cathode and anode recombination in emitting material layer. The mobilities of injected electrons and holes are different. The mobility of holes is faster than that of electrons. In order to get high luminescence efficiency by recombine electrons and holes, the balance of their mobility must be set. The more complex thin film structure of OLED becomes, the more understanding about physical phenomenon in each interface is needed. This paper observed what the thickness change of hole transport layer has an affection through the below experiments. Moreover, this paper uses numerical analysis about carrier transport layer thickness change on the basis of these experimental results that agree with simulation results.

  • Given a cubic space, it is easy to uniformly illuminate the floor with light sources placed on top. However, little has been reported about uniform illumination on walls with the same configuration of light sources. Here we present a luminaire consisting of nine light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with perfect Lambertian distribution, placed on the top as a 3 × 3 rectangular LED array. The distances between LEDs and tilt angles of each individual LED are adjustable and optimized by an annealing algorithm. After optimization, the array produces a rectangular illumination pattern on one wall with a uniformity of about 89%. Analysis shows that the tilt angles of individual LEDs are key parameters for uniform side illumination. In a scenario that is more practical, the tilt angles of all the LEDs are set to be the same, only decreasing the uniformity to 83%.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of light intensity and wavelength on the growth of Tetraselmis suecica and Tetraselmis tetrathele. These species were exposed to a blue light-emitting diode (LED; max=450 nm), a yellow LED (max=590 nm), a red LED (max=630 nm) and a fluorescent lamp (three wavelengths). The maximum growth rates (${\mu}_{max}$) of T. suecica and T. tetrathele under a red LED were 1.12/day and 0.95/day, respectively. Under a yellow LED, growth rates were 70% of the values for red wavelength, with low half-saturation constants (Ks). The optimum light source to ensure economically effective and productive growth in a Tetraselmis culture system (Photo-Bioreactor) would thus appear to be a three-phase culture, wherein a yellow LED is used during the lag phase and initial exponential phase to increase growth rate, followed by a red LED during the middle exponential phase to maximize growth rate, and finally a yellow LED again during the late exponential phase and stationary phase to achieve increased yield of useful bioactive substances.

  • The optical properties of $ZnS_ySe_{1-\chi-y}:Te_{\chi}(\chi<0.08,y~0.11)$ alloys grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) have been investigated by photoluminescence (PL) and PL-excitation (PLE) spectroscopy. Good optical properties and high crystal quality were established with lattice match condition to GaAs substrate. At room temperature, emission in the visible spectrum region from blue to green was obtained by varying the Te content of the ZnSSe:Te alloy. The efficient blue and green emission were assigned to $Te_1 and Te_n(n\geq2)$cluster bound excitons, respectively. Bright green (535 nm) and blue (462 nm) light emitting diodes (LEDs) have been developed using ZnSSe:Te system as an active layer. The turn-on voltage of 2.1 V in current-voltage characteristics is very small compared to that of commercial InGaN-based LEDs (>3.4 V), indicating the formation of a good ohmic contact due to the optimized p-ZnSe/p-ZnTe multi-quantum well (MQW) superlattice electrode layers.

  • We have developed green phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with high quantum efficiency. Wide-energy-gap material, 1,1-bis[(di-4-tolylamino) phenyl]cyclohexane (TAPC), with high triplet energy level was used as a hole transporting layer. Electrophosphorescent devices fabricated using TAPC as a hole-transporting layer and N,N'-dicarbazolyl-4,4'-biphenyl (CBP) doped with fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine) iridium [Ir(ppy)3] as the emitting layer showed the maximum external quantum efficiency ($\eta_{ext}$) of 19.8 %, which is much higher than the devices adopting 4,4'-bis[N-(1-naphthyl)-N-phenyl-amino]biphenyl (NPB) (${\eta}B_{ext}=14.6%$) as a hole transporting layer.

  • We make performance simulations of three different organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), one of which is based on a conventional layered structure and the others on a blended structure where an emitting layer (EML) is either uniformly or stepwise mixed with an electron transport layer (ETL), Tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum ($Alq_3$).

  • We have fabricated white organic light emitting diodes. To obtain balanced white emission and improve the efficiency of devices, thin electron blocking layer (TEBL) was inserted between the emitting layers. We showed that the effective injection of electrons through the optimization of TEBL (a - NPD) embodied the balance of spectra and had a possibility of getting white emission. In a device with 0.3 nm a-NPD, it had a maximum power efficiency of 3.80 lm/w at 250 $cd/m^2$, a luminance of 1200 $cd/m^2$ at 100 $mA/cm^2$ , and the CIE coordinates were (0.353, 0.357).

  • We have developed blue-emitting phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) using 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BCP) and tris (8-quinolinolato)aluminum ($Alq_3$) electron transport layers. As blue dopant and host materials, bis[(4,6-di-fluorophenyl)-pyridinate-N,C2']picolinate (FIrpic) and N,N'-dicarbazolyl-3,5-benzene (mCP) were used, respectively. The driving voltage, current efficiency and emission characteristics of devices were investigated. While the driving voltage was about $1{\sim}2$ V lower in the device with an $Alq_3$ layer, the current efficiency was about 66 % higher in the device with BCP electron transport layer. the blue phosphorescent OLED with BCP layer exhibited higher purity of color, resulting from a relatively weak electroluminescence intensity at 500 nm.

  • We report the efficient red light-emitting diodes based on the fluorescent dye 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-i-propyl-6-(1,1,7,7-tetramethyljulolidyl-9-enyl)-4H-pyran (DCJTI) and 5,6,11,12-tetraphenyl naphthacene (rubrene) codoped in the tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum $(Alq_3)$. Luminance efficiency of 2.2 cd/A with a Commission International De L'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinate of x, y = (0.640, 0:350) are achieved at the driving current density of $20\;mA/cm^2$. Adding the rubrene to the DCJTI in tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum $(Alq_3)$, the red color purity and luminance efficiency improved comparing to the DCJTI only doped devices because the rubrene molecules assist the polarization effect of DCJTI by molecular interaction and enhance the energy transfer from $(Alq_3)$ to DCJTI.

  • The electroluminescent devices with the phenylnaphthyldiamine HTMs as the hole-transporting layer were more efficient than that with the biphenyldiamine HTM 1. Particularly, the life-time of the device IV using HTM 2 is about two times longer than that of the reference device III with HTM 1 within the measured current density, indicating more effective recombination at the emitting layer of device IV.
