고휘도 발광다이오우드와 집어등 광원의 방사특성 및 단위 전력당 방사량 비교 (Comparison of Radiation Characteristics and Radiant Quantities per unit Electrical Power between High Luminance Light Emitting Diode and Fishing Lamp light Source)

  • The radiation characteristics and economic efficiency of high - luminance light - emitting diodes (LEDs), a metal halide lamp, and a halogen lamp were studied to evaluate their potential as an energy-saving light source for fishing lamps. The wavelengths at which irradiance was maximum were 709, 613, 473, 501, 525, 465, 578, and 973 nm for red, orange, blue, peacock blue, green, and white LEDs, the metal halide lamp, and the halogen lamp, respectively. If the irradiance characteristics at 300-1,100 nm wavelengths are set as 100%, the irradiance rates at 381-780 nm were 99-78%, 82%, and 24% for the LEDs, metal halide lamp, and halogen lamp, respectively. The economic efficiency was superior in the order metal halide lamp, halogen lamp, peacock blue LED, and blue LED at 381-780 nm and metal halide lamp, peacock blue LED, blue LED, and halogen lamp at 480-520 nm. Based on the radiation characteristics and economic efficiency evaluated at 480-520 nm, the blue and peacock blue LED light sources can be used as energy-saving light sources for fishing lamps.

Conversion of Organic Carbon in Food Processing Wastewater to Photosynthetic Biomass in Photo-bioreactors Using Different Light Sources

  • An anaerobic photosynthetic treatment process utilizing purple non-sulfur photosynthetic bacteria (PNSB) was applied to the recovery of organic carbon from food processing wastewater. PNSB cells, by-product from the treatment, have high nutrition such as proteins and vitamins which are a good alternative for fish feed. Effects of light source on performance of anaerobic photosynthetic process were investigated in this study. Two bench-scale photo-bioreactors were lighted with infrared light emitting diodes (LEDs) and tungsten lamps covered with infrared transmitting filter, respectively, aiming to supply infrared light for photosynthetic bacteria growth. The photo-bioreactors were operated to treat noodle-processing wastewater for 323 days. Hydraulic retention time (HRT) was set as 6 days. Organic removals in the photo-bioreactor lighted with infrared LEDs (91%-95%) was found higher than those in photo-bioreactor with tungsten lamps with filter (79%-83%). Biomass production in a 150 L bench-scale photo-bioreactor was comparable to a 8 L small-scale photo-bioreactor in previous study, due to improvement of light supply efficiency. Application of infrared LEDs could achieve higher treatment performance with advantages in energy efficiency and wavelength specifity.

복합 광선 요법(저출력 레이저 및 발광 다이오드)이 탈모 및 두피 상태에 미치는 영향 연구 (The Effects of Combined Phototherapy (Low-level Laser and Light-emitting Diode) on Hair Loss and Scalp Conditions)

  • 본 연구에서는 655 nm에서 저출력 레이저와 625 ± 5 nm와 850 ± 10 nm에서 파장을 방출하는 LED를 이용한 복합 광선 요법이 탈모 및 두피에 나타나는 효능을 조사하고자 하였다. 이번 연구에는 총 33 명의 시험대상자가 등록되었다. 각 시험대상자는 Low-level laser therapy (LLLT)와 light-emitting diode (LED) 기기를 매일 10 min 씩 12 주간 두피와 모발에 사용했다. LLLT와 LED 기기를 사용한 지 12 주 후, 두피의 붉은기, 탄력, 수분 함량에서 상당한 개선이 있었으며, 모발의 윤기와 인장 강도, 탈락 모발 수가 개선되었다. 시험대상자가 시험 기기를 사용하는 기간 동안 특별한 피부 이상반응에 대한 보고는 없었다. LLLT와 LED를 이용한 복합 광선 요법은 탈모와 두피 상태 개선에 효과적인 요법임이 입증되었다.

Improved White Light Emitting Diode Characteristics by Coating GdAG:Ce Phosphor

  • White LEDs, based on blue LED chips coated with a yellow emitting phosphor (YAG:Ce), have several disadvantages. In this paper, we report the improvement in CRI [Color Rendition Index] using $GdAl_5O_{12}:Ce$ (GdAG:Ce) and related phosphors for blue LEDs. A modified combustion synthesis route using mixed fuel was used for synthesis route. By using this procedure, we formed the desired compounds in a single step. LEDs were then fabricated by coating the blue LED chips (CREE 470 nm, 300 micron) with the GdAG:Ce phosphor dispersed in epoxy resin. The CRI typically between 65~70 for the YAG:Ce based LED was improved to 87 for LEDs fabricated from the Gd(Al,Ga)G phosphors.

  • 본 논문에서는 LED 조명 기반의 실내 측위 시스템을 제안하였다. LED가 빛을 방출하며 고속의 switching이 가능하다는 반도체 조명이라는 특징을 이용하여 각각의 LED 조명에 고유의 8 비트 ID를 부여 후, 이를 방출되는 조명 빛에 변조하여 보내주었다. 수신기는 16 개의 LED 조명으로부터 조합된 정보를 수신하게 되고, 수신된 정보와 각각의 ID 정보 간의 correlation coefficient를 이용하여 $4\;m\;{\times}\;4\;m\;{\times}\;2\;m$의 공간에서 100 cm 및 50 cm resolution을 가지는 위치인식 시스템을 시뮬레이션을 통해 구현하여 보았다. 제안된 측위 시스템은 간단한 알고리즘을 사용하였고, LED 조명 인프라를 사용하여 구축함으로써 설치비용 절감이 가능할 것이라 기대된다.

  • 본 논문에서는 가시광 통신(visible light communication: VLC) 상향 전송에서 전송거리 확대를 위한 전송방식을 제안하였다. 이를 위해 집광된 infrared(IR)-light emitting diode(LED)의 출력을 이용하여 조명에 위치한 광수신부에 전송하였다. 이러한 집광을 하는 경우 지향성이 너무 커서 IR-LED를 조명부 수신모듈에 정확히 향하지 않는다면 전송이 어렵게 되는 문제점이 있는데, 이를 해결하기 위해 여러 개의 IR-LED를 조금씩 다른 방향을 향하도록 배치하고, 수신부와 통신을 통해 이 중 최고의 전송성능을 보이는 IR-LED를 선택하는 방법을 제안하였다. 통신 성능을 주기적으로 감시하고, 성능이 저하되면 LED 재검색 과정을 통해 새롭게 최상의 성능을 보이는 LED로 통신을 교체하도록 한다.

LED의 파장 및 광도, 공기주입이 Pavlova lutheri와 Phaeodactylum tricornutum의 최적 성장에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Light-Emitting Diode Wavelength, Light Intensity and Air Flow Ration on Optimal Growth of Pavlova lutheri and Phaeodactylum tricornutum)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine optimum condition of Pavlova lutheri and Phaeodactylum tricornutum. Detailed studies were carried out on the effects of various wavelengths of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), light intensities and air flow rations. For the Pa. lutheri, cell growth rates and maximum cell concentrations were similar regardless of wavelengths and air flow rates. Among the different light intensities, cell concentration increased when light intensity of red LED increased. For Ph. tricornutum, red LED was found to be the most effective light source, and light intensity of 3,100 Lux resulted in the most effective for the cultivation of Ph. tricornutum. Different air flow rates were tested to overcome shading effects due to denser cell concentration in the solution. Aeration of 0.8 vvm was determined to be the optimum aeration rate for the cultivation of Ph. tricornutum. Especially, five and two times greater cell concentrations of Pa. lutheri and Ph. tricornutum, respectively, were observed when air was applied.

침치료와 Light Enitting Diode 광선치료를 병행한 욕창 치료 2례 (Two Cases of Pressure Ulcer Patients Treated with Acupuncture and Light Emitting Diode Light Therapy)

  • Objectives : We report two cases of pressure ulcer patients to show the efficacy of treatment with acupuncture and Light Enitting Diode(LED) light therapy. Methods : We treated two pressure ulcer patients with acupuncture, LED light therapy, herbal medication and with a simple dressing. LED light with up to $4J/cm^2$ of energy irradiated the pressure ulcer site once a day for fifteen minutes. All patients received acupuncture treatment and simple dressing for wound care. We measured phase change of the pressure ulcer in terms of ulcer size, The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel(NPUAP) stage and with the The Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing(PUSH) tool(3.0). Results & Conclusions : In each of the two cases, pressure ulcer size and total score of the PUSH tool decreased and NPUAP stage was improved from II to I. This shows that acupuncture treatment and LED light therapy may have a considerable effect in healing on the pressure ulcer.

Microtube Light-Emitting Diode Arrays with Metal Cores

  • Three-dimensional (3-D) semiconductor nanoarchitectures, including nano- and micro- rods, pyramids, and disks, are emerging as one of the most promising elements for future optoelectronic devices. Since these 3-D semiconductor nanoarchitectures have many interesting unconventional properties, including the use of large light-emitting surface area and semipolar/nonpolar nano- or micro-facets, numerous studies reported on novel device applications of these 3-D nanoarchitectures. In particular, 3-D nanoarchitecture devices can have noticeably different current spreading characteristics compared with conventional thin film devices, due to their elaborate 3-D geometry. Utilizing this feature in a highly controlled manner, color-tunable light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were demonstrated by controlling the spatial distribution of current density over the multifaceted GaN LEDs. Meanwhile, for the fabrication of high brightness, single color emitting LEDs or laser diodes, uniform and high density of electrical current must be injected into the entire active layers of the nanoarchitecture devices. Here, we report on a new device structure to inject uniform and high density of electrical current through the 3-D semiconductor nanoarchitecture LEDs using metal core inside microtube LEDs. In this work, we report the fabrications and characteristics of metal-cored coaxial $GaN/In_xGa_{1-x}N$ microtube LEDs. For the fabrication of metal-cored microtube LEDs, $GaN/In_xGa_{1-x}N/ZnO$ coaxial microtube LED arrays grown on an n-GaN/c-Al2O3 substrate were lifted-off from the substrate by wet chemical etching of sacrificial ZnO microtubes and $SiO_2$ layer. The chemically lifted-off layer of LEDs were then stamped upside down on another supporting substrates. Subsequently, Ti/Au and indium tin oxide were deposited on the inner shells of microtubes, forming n-type electrodes of the metal-cored LEDs. The device characteristics were investigated measuring electroluminescence and current-voltage characteristic curves and analyzed by computational modeling of current spreading characteristics.

LED용 (Sr,Ba)2Ga2SiO7:Eu2+ 녹색 형광체의 합성 및 발광특성 (Synthesis and Luminescent Characteristics of (Sr,Ba)2Ga2SiO7:Eu2+ Green Phosphor for LEDs)

  • Eu2+를 활성제로 한(Sr,Ba)2Ga2SiO7 녹색 형광체를 일반적인 고상 반응으로 합성하였고, 그 합성된 형광체의 광발광 특성을 연구하였다. 형광체 제조 시, 마노유발에서 보다 효과적인 혼합을 위하여 아세톤을 사용하여 혼합하였다. 또한 25%H2/75%N2의 혼합기체를 이용한 환원조건에서 단순한 공정으로 형광체를 합성하였다. 이 형광체는 405 nm의 여기 파장하에서 효율적으로 발광되는 녹색 밴드(513 nm)를 갖고 있기 때문에 백색 LED(Light Emitting Diode)램프에 응용할 수 있다.
