  • In this paper, we propose a visible light road-to-vehicle communication system at intersection as one of ITS technique. In this system, the communication between vehicle and a LED traffic light is approached using LED traffic light as the transmitter, and on-vehicle high-speed camera as the receiver. The LEDs in the transmitter are emitted with 500Hz and those emitting LEDs are captured by a high-speed camera for making communication. The images from the high-speed camera are processed to get luminance value of each LED in the transmitter. For this purpose, first transmitter should be found, then it should be tracked for each frame, and the luminance value of each LED in the transmitter should be captured. In our previous work, transmitter was found by getting the subtraction of two consecutive frames. In this paper, we mainly introduce an algorithm to detect the found transmitter in consecutive frames. Experimental results using appropriate images showed the effectiveness of the proposal

  • This paper describes 250-Mb/s fiber optic transmitter and receiver ICs for plastic optical fiber applications using a$ 0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. Simple signal and light detection schemes are introduced for power reduction in sleep mode. The transmitter converts non-return-to-zero digital data into 650-nm visible-red light signal and the receiver recovers the digital data from the incident light signal through up to 50-m plastic optical fiber. The transmitter and receiver ICs occupy only 0.62 $mm^2$ of area including electrostatic discharge protection diodes and bonding pads. The transmitter IC consumes 23 mA with 20 mA of LED driving currents, and the receiver IC consumes 16 mA with 4 mA of output driving currents at 250 Mb/s of data rate from a 3.3-V supply in active mode. In sleep mode, the transmitter and receiver ICs consume only 25 ${\mu}A$ and 40 ${\mu}A$, respectively.

  • In this paper, we suggested the diagnosis of the optical FSK transmitter output characteristics using the Micheloson interferometer. The transmitter is designed by the direct frequency modulation effect of a semoconductor laser diode. The optical FSK transmitter consists of a temperature stabilized semiconductor laser diode and an optimally designed equalizer. It is modulated by 100Mbit/s PRBS Generator to diagonosis of Optical FSK transmitter output characteristics. The Michelson Interferometer is used for the optical frequency discriminator which transforms the output frequency of the transmitter to the amplitude of light. The measurement of the performance of the transmitter to the amplitude of light. The measurement of the performance of the transmitter computer the transmitted data and their eye pattern with the simulation results, the received data and their eye pattern. As the result of experiment, the data transfer rate of the transmitters is 100Mbit/s.

  • We propose a visible light road-to-vehicle communication system at intersection as one of ITS technique. In this system, the communication between vehicle and a LED traffic light is approached using LED traffic light as a transmitter, and on-vehicle high-speed camera as a receiver. The LEDs in the transmitter are emitted in 500Hz and those emitting LEDs are captured by a high-speed camera for making communication. Here, the luminance value of each LED in the transmitter should be found for consecutive frames to achieve effective communication. For this purpose, first the transmitter should be identified, then it should be tracked for consecutive frames while the vehicle is moving, by processing the images from the high-speed camera. In our previous work, the transmitter was identified by getting the subtraction of two consecutive frames. In this paper, we mainly introduce an algorithm to track the identified transmitter in consecutive frames. Experimental results using appropriate images showed the effectiveness of the proposal.

  • CF(Circular Fresnel) POF(Plastic Optical Fiber) daylighting system is a beam daylighting system utilizing solar direct beam radiation. In this study, a CF POF daylighting system has been introduced, developed and applied to KIER test buildings. The CF POF daylighting system consists of three parts: light collector, light transmitter and light diffuser. The light collector includes a Circular Fresnel lens focusing solar direct illuminance by sun tracking. The light transmitter contains the POF cable which has light transmission loss of 4.5% per meter. The light diffuser has about 80% diffuser efficiency. This study aims to evaluate of POF daylighting system performance. At the results of a CFPOF system performance evaluation, the theoretical CFPOF system efficiency was 41.9% and the actual CFPOF system efficiency at the KIER test building was 37.5%. The difference was due partly to the connecting efficiency.

  • In this paper, we had design the module of the LED-based media transmission mechanics visible light communication system. To implement the media transmission system through visible light communication transmitter, receiver module the using high brightness, we proposed visible light communication system to implement communication distance of up to a maximum transmitter-receiver distance using a variable PD sensor to the receiver and 1~12 the LED light-emitting device to the transmitter. It was increased efficiency of approximately 20% by measuring the performance during lens wearing or not wearing on the LED module to improve the efficiency of the media transmission system.

  • Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning is an important issue in the design of next generation wireless network. In visible light communication (VLC) networks, link switching is a solution to maintain or improve the quality of communication. In this paper, we propose a novel link switching scheme using the location of mobile nodes (MNs). The current serving transmitter uses location history of the MN to find out which neighbor transmitter the MN is approaching. This neighbor transmitter is chosen to inform the MN as the next serving transmitter. The simulation results show that our proposed scheme gains better performance than non-predictive link switching scheme.

  • In this study, we applied edge-pulse modulation to prevent the flicker of light-emitting diode (LED) light in a visible light identification system. In the visible light transmitter, positive pulses were transmitted at the edges of the low-to-high transition points, and negative pulses were transmitted at the edges of the high-to-low transition points of the non-return-to-zero (NRZ) data waveforms. In the visible light receiver, the NRZ waveforms were regenerated by making low-to-high and high-to-low transitions at the point of the positive and negative pulses, respectively. This method has two advantages. First, it ensures that the LED light is flicker-free because the average optical power of the LED was kept constant during data transmission in the transmitter. Second, the 120 Hz optical noise from the adjacent lighting lamps was easily cut off using a simple RC-high pass filter in the receiver.

  • In this paper, we develop a dust detection sensor system capable of identifying types of dust for an improvement of a robot vacuum cleaner. The dust detection sensor system is composed of a set of infra-red sensors: a single transmitter and multiple receivers. Given the fixed amount of light transmitted from the transmitter, the amount of light coming in multiple receiver sensors varies, depending on the type and density of dust that is passing between the transmitter and the receivers. Therefore, the type of dust can be identified by means of observing the change of the amount of light from the receiver sensors. For experiments, we use two types of dust, rice and sesame, and validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we newly introduce a visible light communication (VLC) repeater using the LED array in an LED lamp. The LED array is used for a light source in the repeater, which radiates light both for illumination and data transmission. A VLC repeater is made by adding some electronic circuits to the LED array including a photodetector, a demodulator, and a modulator. The repeater is installed on the ceiling of a room like a conventional LED lamp, receives the VLC signal from an arbitrary transmitter, recovers data, and radiates the signal to wide area in the room. We used a carrier frequency of 100 kHz for the uplink from a transmitter to the repeater, and 500 kHz for the downlink from the repeater to a receiver. The repeater is useful for increasing the transmission path to wide area over the obstacles that may exist between VLC transmitters and receivers.
