GPS/INS와 LIDAR자료를 이용한 자동 항공영상 정사보정 개발 (Development of Automatic Airborne Image Orthorectification Using GPS/INS and LIDAR Data)

  • 항공관측으로 얻어지는 디지털 영상은 지리정보로써의 가치를 가지기 위해서는 정밀하게 정사보정되어야 한다. 항공영상의 자동 정사보정을 위해 카메라와 함께 설치된 GPS/INS (Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System) 자료와 LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) 지표고도 자료를 이용하였다. 본 연구에서 635개 항공영상이 생산되고 LIDAR 자료는 정사보정에 적용하기 위하여 격자영상 형태로 변환되었다. 영상 전체적으로 일정한 명도를 가지기 위해서, flat field 수정을 영상에 적용하였다. 영상은 내부방위와 GPS/INS를 이용한 외부방위를 계산하여 기하보정되고, LIDAR 지표고도 영상을 이용하여 정사보정되었다. 정사보정의 정도는 임의의 5개 영상과 LIDAR 반사강도 영상에서 50개 지상기준점을 수집하여 검증되었다. 검정된 결과로써 RMSE (Root Mean Square Error)는 화소 해상도의 단지 2배에 해당하는 0.387 m를 도출하였다. 높은 정도를 가진 자동 항공영상 정사보정 방법은 항공영상 산업에 적용 가능할 것이다.

Improvement of TAOS data process

  • We have applied an advanced multi-aperture indexing photometry and sophisticated de-trending method to existing Taiwanese-American Occultation Survey (TAOS) data sets. TAOS, a wide-field ($3^{\circ}{\times}3^{\circ}$) and rapid photometry (5Hz) survey, is designed to detect small objects in the Kuiper Belt. Since TAOS has fast and multiple exposures per zipper mode image, point spread function (PSF) varies in a given image. Selecting appropriate aperture among various size apertures allows us to reflect these variations in each light curve. The survey data turned out to contain various trends such as telescope vibration, CCD noise, and unstable local weather. We select multiple sets of stars using a hierarchical clustering algorithm in such a way that the light curves in each cluster show strong correlations between them. We then determine a primary trend (PT) per cluster using a weighted sum of the normalized light curves, and we use the constructed PTs to remove trends in individual light curves. After removing the trend, we can get each synthetic light curve of star that has much higher signal-to-noise ratio. We compare the efficiency of the synthetic light curves with the efficiency of light curves made by previous existing photometry pipelines. Our photometric method is able to restore subtle brightness variation that tends to be missed in conventional aperture photometric methods, and can be applied to other wide-field surveys suffering from PSF variations and trends. We are developing an analysis package for the next generation TAOS survey (TAOS II) based on the current experiments.

  • Augmented reality can help to improve user's engineering abilities such as perception and decision making in industry field. Therefore we have studied on the maintenance-supporting applications for inspectors previously. The advantage of pre-existing marker system is that the making and using are easier than any other feature tracking and detection methods. However it must to be exposed to the sufficient light to be detected by computer image processing. The most of industry field is not in clean environment and there are not sufficient light as well. So, the normal marker system is not appropriated for industrial fields. This paper suggests RFID-based marker system to improve marker-detection ability in our AR maintenance system. RFID is not implemented by image processing but it is implemented by electromagnetic induction. Therefore we could more precisely detect markers even if the environment is low-light intensity condition.

Detection of Variable Stars in the Open Cluster M11 Using Difference Image Analysis Pipeline

  • We developed a photometric pipeline to be used for a wide field survey. This pipeline employs the difference image analysis (DIA) method appropriate for the photometry of star dense field such as the Galactic bulge. To verify the performance of pipeline, the observed dataset of the open cluster M11 was re-processed. One hundred seventy eight variable stars were newly discovered by analyzing the light curves of which photometric accuracy was improved through the DIA. The total number of variable stars in the M11 observation region is 335, including 157 variable stars discovered by previous studies. We present the catalogue and light curves for the 178 variable stars. This study shows that the photometric pipeline using the DIA is very useful in the detection of variable stars in a cluster.

용접접합부의 형상계측을 위한 주사형 시각센서의 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on Design of Visual Sensor Using Scanning Beam for Shape Recognition of Weld Joint.)

  • A visual sensor consisted of polygonal mirror, laser, and CCD camera was proposed to measure the distance to the weld joint for recognizing the joint shape. To scan the laser beam of the sensor onto an object, 8-facet polygonal mirror was used as the rotating mirror. By locating the laser and the camera at axi-symmetrical positions around the mirror, the synchronized-scan condition could be satisfied even when the mirror was set to rotate through one direction continuously, which could remove the inertia effect of the conventional oscillating-mirror methods. The mathematical modelling of the proposed sensor with the optical triangulation method made it possible to derive the relation between the position of an image on the camera and the one of a laser light on the object. Through the geometrical simulation of the proposed sensor with the principal of reflection and virtual image, the optical path of a laser light could be predicted. The position and direction of the CCD camera were determined based on the Scheimpflug's condition to fit the focus of any image reflected from an object within the field of view. The results of modelling and simulation revealed that the proposed visual sensor could be used to recognize the weld joint and its vicinity located within the range of the field of view and the resolution. Optical Performance Measurement of the MATS Satellite

  • The MATS (Mesosphere Airglow/Aerosol Tomography Spectroscopy) satellite is the next Swedish science microsatellite. We report optical performance test results of the limb telescope, which is the major payload. This telescope is designed with "linear astigmatism-free" (LAF) off-axis optical system in order to have high optical performance across the wide field of view. We measured Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and Encircled Energy Diameter (EED) of the limb telescope. Full field imaging tests show expected results without linear astigmatism across the full field of view ($5.67^{\circ}{\times}0.91^{\circ}$). Since the amount of stray light is from the earth and the sun, we also simulated and measured the stray light in the field image.

수중 유속 및 유향의 동시 측정을 위한 이미지 분석 기술에 관한 연구 (Image Analysis for the Simultaneous Measurement of Underwater Flow Velocity and Direction)

  • To measure the flow velocity and direction in the near field of an unmanned underwater vehicle, an optical measurement unit containing an image sensor and a phosphor-integrated pillar that mimics the neuromasts of a fish was constructed. To analyze pillar movement, which changes with fluid flow, fluorescence image analysis was conducted. To analyze the flow velocity, mean force analysis, which could determine the relationship between the light intensity of a fluorescence image and an external force, and length-force analysis, which could determine the distance between the center points of two fluorescence images, were employed. Additionally, angle analysis that can determine the angles at which pixels of a digital image change was selected to analyze the direction of fluid flow. The flow velocity analysis results showed a high correlation of 0.977 between the external force and the light intensity of the fluorescence image, and in the case of direction analysis, omnidirectional movement could be analyzed. Through this study, we confirmed the effectiveness of optical flow sensors equipped with phosphor-integrated pillars.

An Improved ViBe Algorithm of Moving Target Extraction for Night Infrared Surveillance Video

  • For the research field of night infrared surveillance video, the target imaging in the video is easily affected by the light due to the characteristics of the active infrared camera and the classical ViBe algorithm has some problems for moving target extraction because of background misjudgment, noise interference, ghost shadow and so on. Therefore, an improved ViBe algorithm (I-ViBe) for moving target extraction in night infrared surveillance video is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the video frames are sampled and judged by the degree of light influence, and the video frame is divided into three situations: no light change, small light change, and severe light change. Secondly, the ViBe algorithm is extracted the moving target when there is no light change. The segmentation factor of the ViBe algorithm is adaptively changed to reduce the impact of the light on the ViBe algorithm when the light change is small. The moving target is extracted using the region growing algorithm improved by the image entropy in the differential image of the current frame and the background model when the illumination changes drastically. Based on the results of the simulation, the I-ViBe algorithm proposed has better robustness to the influence of illumination. When extracting moving targets at night the I-ViBe algorithm can make target extraction more accurate and provide more effective data for further night behavior recognition and target tracking.

  • The paper proposes a method for generating a sequence of images with smooth transition of illumination from two input images with different lighting conditions. Our relighting approach is image-based, such as the light field rendering. We store the luminances (pixel RGB values) into "lighting functions" consisting of a couple of parameters related to normal vectors. Images with different light positions are rendered by interpolating the luminances retrieved from the lighting functions. The proposed method is a promising technique for many applications requiring a scene with variety of lighting effects, such as movies, TV games, and so on.

  • Light Field (LF) cameras capture both spatial and directional information of light rays. Current LF cameras have a problem of a low spatial resolution. There have been lots of existing works carried out to improve the resolution of LF images. In this paper, those existing works will be divided into two categories: hardware-based approaches and software-based approaches, and we will look into and compare several experiment results in order for LF spatial resolution enhancement. Finally, the direction for the future spatial resolution enhancement will be suggested.
