  • This paper is designed to find out where power reaches the highest point as the load of solar cells varies. In addition, the current and power were measured when irradiation changes, and the correlation between current and power was investigated. On top of that, experiments were conducted with the light volume kept constant and with the incoming light angle changing in order to figure out the incoming light angle that produces the most power and to conduct analyses. It was ascertained that if the load increases, the current decreases and the voltage increases. Since the power of 0.9828[W] was the highest when measurements were done, it can be said that when a load of 30[%] is applied to the solar cells, they are the most efficient.

  • Existing coding aware routing algorithms focused on novel routing metric design that captures the characteristics of network coding. However, in packet coding algorithm, they use opportunistic coding scheme which didn't consider the queue state of the coding node and are equivalent to the conventional store-and-forward method in light traffic load condition because they never delay packets and there are no packets in the output queue of coding node, which results in no coding opportunity. In addition, most of the existing algorithms assume that all flows participating in the network have equal rate. This is unrealistic since multi-rate environments are often appeared. To overcome above problem and expand network coding to light traffic load scenarios, we present an enhanced coding-aware routing algorithm based on queue state and local topology (OQMCAR), which consider the queue state of coding node in packet coding algorithm where the control policy is of threshold-type. OQMCAR is a unified framework to merge single rate case and multiple rate case, including the light traffic load scenarios. Simulations results show that our scheme can achieve higher throughput and lower end-to-end delay than the current mechanisms using COPE-type opportunistic coding policy in different cases.

  • The use of non-bearing light weight wall has increased recently due to the increase of high-rise buildings and supply of long-life housing. Light weight wall has advantages such as reducing the self-weight of the building, convenience in installation, and shortening construction period, however, must have a sufficient strength to external force. This study standardized the impact resistance test method for light weight walls by using the actual impact load obtained through load analysis test in previous studies. The impact resistance test method was divided into the test method that uses soft body and the one that uses hard body. The size of specimen was set up as height 2.4m and width 3.0m. The size and shape of the body followed those used in BS 5234-2 and so on for the compatibility with the test method used overseas. The judgment criteria for impact resistance based on test results were not defined uniformly as the assessment of functional damage can vary depending on the type of material, structural method, purpose of wall, and so on even when the same impact load was applied.

  • Recently, when a fault occurs at a long-distance point in a LVDC (low voltage direct current) distribution feeder in a light rail system, the magnitude of the current can decrease to less than that of the load current of a light rail system. Therefore, proper protection coordination method to distinguish a fault current from a load current is required. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes an optimal algorithm of protection devices for a LVDC distribution feeder in a light rail system. In other words, based on the characteristics of the fault current for ground resistance and fault location, this paper proposes an optimal operation algorithm of a selective relay to properly identify the fault current compared to the load current in a light rail system. In addition, this paper modelled the distribution system including AC/DC converter using a PSCAD/EMTDC S/W and from the simulation results for a real light rail system, the proposed algorithm was found to be a useful and practical tool to correctly identify the fault current and load current.

  • Grouted sleeve splice (GSS) is an effective type of connection applied in the precast concrete structures as it has the advantages of rapidly assembly and reliable strength. To decrease the weight and cost of vertical rebar connection in precast shear walls, a light-weight sleeve is designed according to the thick-cylinder theory. Mechanical behaviour of the light-weighted GSS is investigated through experimental analysis. Two failure modes, such as rebar fracture failure and rebar pull-out failure, are found. The load-displacement curves exhibit four different stages: elastic stage, yield stage, strengthening stage, and necking stage. The bond strength between the rebar and the grout increases gradually from outer position to inner position of the sleeve, and it reaches the maximum value at the centre of the anchorage length. A finite element model predicting the mechanical properties of the light-weighted GSS is developed based on the Concrete Damage Plasticity (CDP) model and the Brittle Cracking (BC) model. The effect of the rebar anchorage length is significant, while the increase of the thickness of sleeve and the grout strength are not very effective. A model for estimating ultimate load, including factors of inner diameter of sleeves, anchorage length, and rebar diameter, is proposed. The proposed model shows good agreement with various test data.

  • The fretting wear behaviour of Zircaloy-4 tube used as the fuel rod cladding in PWR nuclear power plants has been investigated at the different test environment, in light water and in air as a function of slip amplitude, normal load, test duration and frequency. Zircaloy-4 tubes were used for both of oscillating and stationary specimens. A fretting wear tester was designed to be suitable for this fretting test. The wear volume and specific wear rate of Zircaloy-4 tube in water were greater than those in air under various slip amplitude. It was found that delaminate debris and surface cracks were observed at low slip amplitude and high load in water Experimental results showed that the light water accelerated the wear of Zircaloy-4 tube at low slip amplitude in fretting.

  • The fretting wear characteristics of Zircaloy-4 tube in light water were investigated experimentally. A fretting wear tester was designed to be suitable for this fretting test. This study was focused on the effects due to the combination of normal load, slip amplitude and number of cycles as the main factors of fretting. The results of this study showed that the wear volume increased abruptly at slip amplitude above 100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, which is defined as critical slip amplitude of Zircaloy-4 tube in light water, and that under 160 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ the wear volume decreased as load increased at the same slip amplitude.

  • In this study, as a means of increasing engine power, turbocharging was applied to the gasoline engine of a light passenger car which was originally naturally aspirated. Also the catalytic convertor was applied to improve the exhaust emission characteristics. The comparison of the performance characteristics between the burbocharged engine with catalytic convertor and the naturally aspirated engine was made over the wide range of operating conditions. The results showed considerable increase of the output performances at full load condition by trubocharging while slight losses were observed at part load conditions.

  • In this paper, running performance analyses of an articulated light rail vehicle are carried out using VAMPIRE software package. The stability analysis to determine the critical speed and the safety analysis such as derailment coefficients, lateral forces of wheels and reduction of wheel load are carried for the track conditions of straight, transition and curving range to the operating velocity of 40km/h. Also, ride quality is analyzed. As the results of analysis, the safety of light rail vehicle satisfied with the limit values and the ride quality for tare and full load condition was shown to the "not uncomfortable" level in ISO 2631-1 (1997) criteria.
