광커넥터의 접합부 스크래치가 광전송 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of endface scratches on the optical transmission characteristics of optical connectors)

  • Optical connector is prone to take environment attack since it is exposed to various environmental conditions. As the data bit rate is increased in the modern optical communication system. the stability of optical connector becomes more important issue in complex network comprising of many connection by connectors. In this research, to estimate the influence of defects of connector, especially surface scratches, on the transmission, surface scratches were intentionally introduced on the cross sectional surface of optical connector and the insertion loss, return loss. and BER were measured as functions of geometry and density of scratches, Environmental conditioning was also performed onto these connectors and the variations of basic optical characteristics mentioned above were measured. Based on this measurement the lifetime of connectors was estimated by statistical prediction method.

원자력 발전소 고압터빈의 교축여유(Throttle Margin) 최적화 연구 (Study on Optimization of Throttle Margin in High Pressure Turbine of Nuclear Power Plant)

  • In the present study, optimization of throttle margin for high pressure turbine to be retrofitted or partially modified for power uprating or life extension in nuclear power plant, has been performed to increase the electrical output. Throttle margin for high pressure turbine is required to maintain all the time the rated power by opening more of governor valves whenever inlet pressure is decreased due to the tube plugging of steam generator. If throttle margin of high pressure turbine is too much compared to remaining lifetime, loss of electrical output due to pressure drop of governor valves is inevitable. On the contrary, if it is too little, the rated power operation can not be accomplished when inlet pressure of high pressure turbine is dropped after many years operation. So, throttle margin for high pressure turbine in nuclear power plant is compromised considering for the degradation of steam generator, governor valve capacity, manufacturing tolerance of high pressure turbine, future plan of power uprating, and remaining lifetime of power plant.

  • This paper deals with a single crystalline silicon (SCS) RF MEMS switch for telecommunication system applications. The proposed SCS switch was fabricated using a silicon-on-glass (SiOG) process and its performances in terms of RF responses, switching time, lifetime were characterized. The proposed SCS switch consists of movable plates, mechanical spring structures, which are composed of robust SCS, resulting in mechanically good stability, The measured actuation voltage was 30 V, and with this applied voltage, the insertion loss and isolation characteristics were measured to be 0.05 and 44.6 dB at 2 GHz respectively. The measured switch ON and OFF time were 13 and $9{\mu}s$, respectively. The lifetime of the fabricated switch was tested. Even after over 1 billion cycles repeated ON/OFF actuations, the switch maintained its own characteristics.

Energy Efficient and Secure Multipoint Relay Selection in Mobile Ad hoc Networks

  • Nodes in MANETs are battery powered which makes energy an invaluable resource. In OLSR, MPRs are special nodes that are selected by other nodes to relay their data/control traffic which may lead to high energy consumption of MPR nodes. Therefore, employing energy efficient MPR selection mechanism is imperative to ensure prolonged network lifetime. However, misbehaving MPR nodes tend to preserve their energy by dropping packets of other nodes instead of forwarding them. This leads to huge energy loss and performance degradation of existing energy efficient MPR selection schemes. This paper proposes an energy efficient secure MPR selection (ES-MPR) technique that takes into account both energy and security metrics for MPR selection. It introduces the concept of 'Composite Eligibility Index' (CEI) to examine the eligibility of a node for being selected as an MPR. CEI is used in conjunction with willingness to provide distinct selection parameters for Flooding and Routing MPRs. Simulation studies reveal the efficiency of ES-MPR in selection of energy efficient secure and stable MPRs, in turn, prolonging the network operational lifetime.

가속 열 노화시험을 이용한 침매터널용 고무 씰 소재의 사용수명 예측 (Service life prediction of rubber seal materials for immersion tunnel by accelerated thermal degradation tests)

  • This paper considers accelerated thermal degradation tests which are performed for rubber seal materials used for undersea tunnels constructed by immersion method. Three types of rubber seals are tested; rubber expansion seal, omega seal, and shock absorber hose. Main ingredient of rubber expansion seal is EPDM(Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) and that of both omega seal and shock absorber hose is SBR(Styrene Butadiene Rubber). The accelerated stress is temperature and an Arrhenius model is introduced to describe the relationship between the lifetime and the stress. From the accelerated degradation tests, dominant failure mode of the rubber seals is found to be the loss of elongation. The lifetime distribution and the service life of the rubber seals at use condition are estimated from the test results. The acceleration factor for three types of rubber seals are also investigated.

Enhanced Hybrid Routing Protocol for Load Balancing in WSN Using Mobile Sink Node

  • Load balancing is a significant technique to prolong a network's lifetime in sensor network. This paper introduces a hybrid approach named as Load Distributing Hybrid Routing Protocol (LDHRP) composed with a border node routing protocol (BDRP) and greedy forwarding (GF) strategy which will make the routing effective, especially in mobility scenarios. In an existing solution, because of the high network complexity, the data delivery latency increases. To overcome this limitation, a new approach is proposed in which the source node transmits the data to its respective destination via border nodes or greedily until the complete data is transmitted. In this way, the whole load of a network is evenly distributed among the participating nodes. However, border node is mainly responsible in aggregating data from the source and further forwards it to mobile sink; so there will be fewer chances of energy expenditure in the network. In addition to this, number of hop counts while transmitting the data will be reduced as compared to the existing solutions HRLBP and ZRP. From the simulation results, we conclude that proposed approach outperforms well than existing solutions in terms including end-to-end delay, packet loss rate and so on and thus guarantees enhancement in lifetime.

Vessel failure sensitivities of an advanced reactor for SBLOCA

  • Plant-specific analyses of an advanced reactor have been performed to assure the structural integrity of the reactor pressure vessel during transient conditions, which are expected to initiate pressurized thermal shock (PTS) events. The vessel failure probabilities from the probabilistic fracture mechanics analyses are combined with the transient frequencies to generate the through-wall cracking frequencies, which are compared to the acceptance criterion. Several sensitivity analyses are performed, focusing on the orientations and sizes of cracks, the copper content, and a flaw distribution model. The results show that the integrity of the reactor vessel is expected to be maintained for long-term operation beyond the design lifetime from the PTS perspective using the design data of the advanced reactor. Moreover, a fluence level exceeding 9×1019 n/㎠ is found to be acceptable, generating a sufficient margin beyond the design lifetime.

  • To get more insight into the buffering effects of the p-${\mu}c$-Si:H Inserted at the p-a-SiC:H/i-a-Si:H interface, we present a systematic numerical simulation using Gummel-Schafetter method. The reduced recombination loss at the p/i interface due to a constant bandgap buffer is analysed in terms of the variation of the p/i Interface region with a short lifetime and the characterisitics of the buffer such as mobility bandgap, acceptor concentration, and D-state density. The numerical modeling on the constant bandgap buffer demonstrates clearly that the buffering effects of the thin p-${\mu}c$-Si:H originate from the shrinkage of highly defective region with a short lifetime in the vicinity of the p/i interface.

Neutronics modelling of control rod compensation operation in small modular fast reactor using OpenMC

  • The small modular liquid-metal fast reactor (SMFR) is an important component of advanced nuclear systems. SMFRs exhibit relatively low breeding capability and constraint space for control rod installation. Consequently, control rods are deeply inserted at beginning and are withdrawn gradually to compensate for large burnup reactivity loss in a long lifetime. This paper is committed to investigating the impact of control rod compensation operation on core neutronics characteristics. This paper presents a whole core fine depletion model of long lifetime SMFR using OpenMC and the influence of depletion chains is verified. Three control rod position schemes to simulate the compensation process are compared. The results show that the fine simulation of the control rod compensation process impacts significantly the fuel burnup distribution and absorber consumption. A control rod equivalent position scheme proposed in this work is an optimal option in the trade-off between computation time and accuracy. The control position is crucial for accurate power distribution and void feedback coefficients in SMFRs. The results in this paper also show that the pin level power distribution is important due to the heterogeneous distribution in SMFRs. The fuel burnup distribution at the end of core life impacts the worth of control rods.

  • 실리콘 태양전지의 효율을 향상하기 위해서는 소수 캐리어의 높은 수명이 필수조건이다. 따라서, 이를 달성하기 위한 실리콘 표면결함을 없애줄 수 있는 부동화(passivation) 기술이 매우 중요하다. 일반적으로 PECVD 법이나 열산화 공정을 통해 얻어진 $SiO_2$ 박막이 부동화 층으로 많이 사용되나 1000도에 이르는 고온 공정과 낮은 열적 안정성이 문제로 여겨진다. 본 연구에서는 원자층 증착법을 이용하여 400도 미만의 저온 공정을 통해 $Al_2O_3$ 부동화 박막을 형성하였다. $Al_2O_3$ 박막은 고유의 음의 고정 전하밀도로 인해 낮은 표면 재결합속도를 보이는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 질소 도핑을 통해 높은 음의 고정 전하 밀도를 얻고 이를 통해 좀 더 향상된 실리콘 표면 부동화 특성을 얻고자 하였다.
