  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze relation between dental health beliefs and dental health behavior in the high grade students of elementary school, so importance of dental health beliefs has been emphasized as a factor affecting dental health behavior. Methods: The subjects in this study were 490 students of 4, 5 and 6th grade students from elementary school in Daegu areas. The data was collected through a structured questionnaire on June 26, 2006. For data analysis, One-way ANOVA, T-test and Pearson's correlation test were utilized. Result: 1) Frequency of visit at dental clinic for one years was significantly correlated with academic years, also frequency of toothbrushing one day was significant difference with sex distinction. 2) Frequency of toothbrushing one day was significantly correlated with their's susceptibility and barrier. 3) Frequency of visit at dental clinic for one years was significantly correlated with their's susceptibility and seriousness. 4) Frequency of intake cariogenic food for one day was significantly correlated with their's susceptibility, seriousness, benefit and barrier. Conclusions: We found that student's dental health beliefs was significantly correlated with dental health behavior, so school health educators should encourage students to have properly dental care habits for lifelong dental health with practical education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting self-directed learning of workers. For this purpose, 335 workers were surveyed in two cities in the northwestern part of Chungcheongnamdo. The research was carried out by difference test to identify the diffrence of self-directed learning according to general characteristics and by correlation analysis of main variables. Also in order to identify the effect of hope and growth mindset on self-directed learning, hierarchical regression analysis was conducted by diving the group into employee-level and higher employee-level. The main results are as follows. First, Self-directed learning differed by gender. Second, correlation analysis revealed that hope, growth mindset and self-directed learning were positively correlated. Third, regression analysis showed that the pathway thinking of hope and the intelligence of the growth mindset influenced self-directed learning of employee-level workers. And it showed that the pathway thinking of hope influenced self-directed learning of higher employee-level workers. Finally, we discussed policies to enhance workers' self-directed learning based on positions.

  • This study attempted to review the possibility of Psidium guajava leaf extract as a cosmetics ingredient by measuring antioxidant activity through ABTS radical scavenging activity, cytotoxicity in RAW 264.7 macrophages, ROS generation-inhibiting effects through DCF-DA assay and antimicrobial activity, and the results found the followings: The Psidium guajava leaf extract revealed excellent ABTS radical scavenging activity. In RAW 264.7 macrophages, no cytotoxicity was found. The ROS generation in the cells was reduced in a dose-dependent manner. The antimicrobial activities were observed in the following strains: S. aureus, E. coli, C. albicans and P. acnes. In terms of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) on each strain, which ranged from 0.25 to 1 mg/mL, C. albican was the lowest, followed by E. coli, S. aureus and P. acnes. The above results confirmed the effects of Psidium guajava leaf extract: antioxidant activity, inhibition of ROS generation in the cells, antimicrobial effects on skin flora which causes inflammation. Therefore, it appears that the extract would be available as a cosmetics ingredient which is free of toxins and side effects.

  • Pacific saury, Cololabis saira kwamaegi, is a traditional local food of the Eastern sea area centering around Pohang. It is well-recognized as being both tasty and nutritious. Nevertheless, bacterial contamination, excessive dryness, and compositional changes have made it edible only during the winter months. Therefore, to improve its storage, this study examined the effects of storage material, type, temperature, and duration on compositional changes in kwamaegi. The studied samples were kwamaegis that had been dried naturally for 15 days. The storage materials included an A-film, a self-developed multi-film made of polyethylene, polyamide, EVOH, and polyethylene; as well as a B-film made of polyethylene, nylon, polyethylene, nylon and polyethylene. The B films were used after pressing and laminating. The storage types included one whole fish(1G), or 2 divided fish(2G), to increase eating convenience. The 2G type was the muscle portion divided vertically after discarding the jowl, skin, and internal organs. The storage temperatures were $0^{\circ}C$, $-15^{\circ}C$, and $-30^{\circ}C$, and the storage durations were 2, 4, and 6 months. Pathogenic bacteria and rheology were measured to observe general compositional changes. The whole kwamaegi showed a total cell number of $1,565{\pm}112$ CFU/100 g flesh, while the divided Kwamaegi showed significantly greater bacterial numbers at $2,031{\pm}145$ CFU/100 g flesh. Psychrophils and halophils increased significantly while coliform were not found; the number of mesophils also increased, but not significantly. There were no significant cell number variations between the A-film and B-film. At $0^{\circ}C$, both the A-and B-films resulted in cell numbers of $115{\sim}212$ CFU/100 g flesh, revealing just $7.3{\sim}10.4%$ of the initial storage levels. Overall, there were no significant differences between the storage materials. Generally, as the storage temperature and duration increased, the moisture content of the kwamaegi decreased. Also, as storage duration and temperature increased, crude protein and crude lipid contents increased; in addition, they increased proportionally as the moisture content of the fish decreased. There were no significant differences in crude ash content with respect to the storage materials, storage temperatures, or storage durations. Finally, there were no significant differences between the kwamaegi samples naturally dried for 15 days and those stored in the B-film vacuum storage for 6 months for strength, hardness, cohesiveness, springiness, gumminess, and water activity.

In turn, keen competition exists among enterprises for the systematic management of members' knowledge to secure predominance in such competition. Under such circumstances, SMEs must find and utilize positive causes for change that affect organizational performance. The objective of this study is to analyze the structural relationship between four factors known from prior research-a CEO's positive leadership, members' positive life positions, learning organization activities, and job engagement-and organizational performance. Research design, data, and methodology - To achieve this objective, this study established the following four research problems. First, do CEOs' positive leadership, members' positive life positions, learning organization activities, and job engagement affect organizational performance? Second, do CEOs' positive leadership, members' positive life positions, and learning organization activities affect job engagement? Third, do CEOs' positive leadership and members' positive life positions affect learning organization activities? Fourth, does CEOs' positive leadership affect members' positive life positions. Additionally, to achieve the objective of this study, the research model was selected on the basis of a documentary survey of 787 full-time employees at 100 SMEs, which was used to collect related data. Results - The following conclusions were drawn. First, a CEO's positive leadership directly affects members' positive life positions, learning organization activities, and job engagement. Second, positive leadership only indirectly affects organizational performance. That is, positive leadership has an indirect effect on organizational performance given the parameters of members' positive life positions, learning organization activities, and job engagement. Third, members' positive life positions directly affect learning organization activities and job engagement, but indirectly affect organizational performance with learning organization activities and job engagement as parameters. Fourth, learning organization activities directly affect job engagement and organizational performance. Additionally, learning organization activities indirectly affect organizational performance with job engagement as a parameter. Fifth, job engagement directly affects organizational performance. Conclusions - A CEO's positive leadership and members' positive life positions do not directly affect organizational performance but have a positive effect through learning organization activities and job engagement. In particular, CEOs' positive leadership was proven to be the major factor to affect members' positive life positions, learning organization attitudes, and job engagement, and learning organization activities and job engagement were found to be major factors that directly affect organizational performance. Considering these conclusions, the direct effect of a CEO's positive leadership on organizational performance is not statistically significant but seems to affect members' positive life positions, learning organization activities, and job engagement, which ultimately affects organizational performance. In addition, CEOs' positive leadership is an important factor that enhances the factors with the strongest effect on organizational performance-activities of learning organizations and job engagement.
