  • This study suggests an alternative for solving quality-of-life problems of an aging workforce by seeking ways to utilize an aging workforce in corporations and society. This research empirically analyzed data from the 6th panel data of aging. Study results are as follows. First, it was confirmed that job satisfaction of aging manpower plays a mediating role in the relationship between quality of life and the job characteristics of an aging workforce. Second, it was found that the wage level of regular workers had a significant effect on job satisfaction and quality of life, and the job satisfaction of regular workers was mediated between wage level and quality of life. On the other hand, the wage level of non-regular workers did not have any effect on job satisfaction and quality of life. The results of this study suggest the necessity for companies to recognize the use of an aging workforce to improve social value. Furthermore, our results provide implications for domestic firms and government policymakers on how to use a domestic aging workforce and how to utilize regular and non-regular workers.

  • This study analyzed 247 data surveyed on 119 ambulance workers 268 in a G-Do. The variance of the multiple regression model on the effect of independent variables on life satisfaction factors was statistically significant. And transformational leadership is an independent variable that significantly affects life satisfaction factors. However, there is a slight difference in the perception of transactional satisfaction factors (p=.051) was not statistically significant, so the second research question raised in this study was rejected. Based on the results of this study, transformational leadership should be centered on improving 119 paramedics' life satisfaction in the relationship between the direct effects of leadership variables related to 119 paramedics' life satisfaction. By doing so, 119 paramedics' life satisfaction will increase and the ultimate improvement in the quality of first aid at the emergency site will be achieved by providing a foothold to demonstrate the potential capabilities of 119 paramedics. In addition, 119 paramedics need to recognize and promote the importance of life satisfaction recognized in their daily lives and workplaces, creating an environment that can demonstrate transformative leadership by carefully caring for 119 center heads, team leaders, and field seniors.

  • In this study, we investigated oxidative stress and tumor marker levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in 136 coke oven workers and in 60 control subjects, and evaluated the correlation between oxidative stress and tumor marker levels. Questionnaires on basic demographic information were also administered. Significant differences in employment time and percentages of alcohol drinkers were observed between the control and exposed groups. PAH exposure was assessed using urinary 1-hydroxy-pyrene (1-OHP) levels and was found to be significantly higher in workers than in the controls. Significant differences (P<0.001) of MDA, GST, LDH, NSE, Cyfra21-1, and of SCC and TNF-a (P<0.0001 and P<0.05, P<0.001, respectively) levels were observed among controls and coke-oven workers, except for bottom coke oven workers. Associations between age and risk of increased TNF-a, smoking and increased GST activities, and drinking with increased MDA concentrations, were marginal (P=0.055, P=0.048, P=0.057, respectively). The association between smoking with MDA (P=0.004), NSE (P=0.005), SCC (P=0.004) andTNF-a (P<0.001), and drinking with TNF-a levels was significant (P=0.012). In addition, a significant positive correlation between oxidative stress and tumor markers was found in the present study. These results suggest that a synergistic increase of oxidative stress and tumor markers induced by PAHs may play a role in toxic responses for PAHs in coke oven workers.

  • Objectives: Although the number of laboratory workers is constantly increasing every year, few studies have been conducted on the health and nutritional status of these research workers. This study determined the health status of laboratory workers by analyzing their anthropometric indices, dietary life, vitamin D status and blood clinical indices. Methods: The subjects consisted of 100 female laboratory workers. This study investigated their diet, anthropometric indices, vitamin D status and blood clinical indices. The subjects were divided into two groups according to their duration of working in a laboratory (<1 year, $${\geq}_-1year$$). Results: The average age and body mass index (BMI) of subjects were 23.18 years and $21.51kg/m^2$, respectively Those subjects with over 1 year employment ($${\geq}_-1year$$) had a significantly higher waist-hip ratio than that of the subjects with the less than 1 year employment (<1 year). The mean serum vitamin D level of all the subjects was 10.04 ng/mL, which is close to a level of vitamin D deficiency. There was a significantly higher average intake of calories in the over 1 year employment group as compared to that of the less than 1 year employment group. The frequency of eating sweet snacks was significantly higher for the over 1 year employment group. The correlation analysis showed a significant positive correlation between the serum 25-(OH)-vitamin D level and the time of exposure to sunlight, while dietary intake of vitamin D did not show correlation with the serum 25-(OH)-vitamin D level. However, the serum 25-(OH)-vitamin D level was also negatively correlated with both the percentage of body fat and visceral fat. Conclusions: Laboratory workers are a very high risk group in terms of their nutritional status of vitamin D. Therefore, they need greater time of exposure to sunlight as well as increasing their dietary consumption of vitamin D. In addition, it is important for laboratory worker to practice regular and balanced dietary habits in order to maintain a healthy life.

  • The present study investigated the effect of area-specific social networks on urban workers life satisfaction. For this, 356 adults over age 20 were interviewed from June 17th 2013 to June 29th 2013. The findings are as follows: First, the closeness of family network index demonstrates that participants with higher affective support have higher life satisfaction. In addition, stronger extended family network brings more life satisfaction and so does a bigger friendship network. Secondly, the extended family network explains 17.6% of the variance in social networks follows by family network, other network, and friendship network, respectively. The closeness variable of social networks yields statistical significance on all categories of networks. The affective support level in the closeness variable of social networks shows differences as well; family network positively associates with life satisfaction. The purposes of this research are to investigate the actual conditions of urban workers' life satisfaction and the influence of family, extended family, friendship, and other variables on life satisfaction. If social networks have an influence on life satisfaction, to find the domain of social networks that holds the most influences on life satisfaction is an important ground in the process of implementing regional welfare.

  • This study examines health and life satisfaction of the married female production workers(Mfpw). The data of 370 Mfpw in manufacturing sector in Taegu are collected by using questionares in August, 1995. Health scale measured by Todai Health Index is composed physical health and mental health. There are three satifsfaction areas-individual life satisfaction, family life satisfaction, and job satisfaction-in the overall life satisfaction scale. The findings of this study are as follows: 1) Mfpw’s total health conditions are poor. Especially physical health is worse than mental health. Physical health is influenced by age and purpose of attaining job, while mental health is influenced by purpose of attaining job. Mfpw who get the job for family financial needs have poor physical and mental health. 2) The overall life satisfaction level of Mfpw is lower than middle point : their family life satisfaction level is the heigest and their individual life satisfaction level is the lowest. Family income, purpose of attaining job and work place environment have effect on the level of overall life satisfaction. Mfpw who have the higher family income, get the job by non-economic motivations and work in good work place environment show the higher life satisfaction level.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the relationship among musculoskeletal problems, sleep problems, and self-rated mental health of home-care workers. Methods: Data were collected from 447 home-care workers spanning three occupation types: life supporters for the elderly, home-visit caregivers, and life supporters for the disabled. Musculoskeletal problems, sleep problems, and self-rated mental health were assessed using structured questionnaires. Factors affecting self-rated mental health were analyzed using multiple regression. SPSS was used to test the mediating effects of sleep problems on musculoskeletal problems and self-rated mental health. Results: Among the general characteristics, the variables that showed significant differences in musculoskeletal problems were monthly income level, caring-related career duration, weekly working hours, and occupation type; and the variable that showed significant differences in self-rated mental health was occupation type. Among the occupation types, supporters for the disabled had the most musculoskeletal problems and the lowest self-rated mental health. Musculoskeletal problems among home-care workers had a direct negative effect on self-rated mental health and indirect negative effects on sleep problems. Conclusion: Measures are needed to reduce the differences in working conditions and health status among the occupation types of home-care workers. Considering the relevance between the health issues of home-care workers, the development of a carefully designed health promotion strategy is required.
