알토 도서관 건축의 유형학적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Typological Characteristics of Aalto's Library Design)

  • This study aims to analyze the typological characteristics of Alvar Aalto's library design. The unique characteristics of Aalto's architecture are the result of accommodating Modern architecture with regional qualities of Finland. Besides this, Aalto's typological approach in design made his color. The library might be the best example for understanding his design approach in that he showed 3 main features of type; wholeness, self-control and transformation. He established architectural types in his 30s through Viipuri public library and developed so-called fan type library plan. Aalto's library type is not a simple copy of exterior and interior form. It acts as a principle of configuration of his library architecture and applied to the building. Therefore, Aalto's library architecture can be recognized as the results of typological design approach in that it shows the transformation of type in according to factors including site, size, region and cultural tradition. In conclusion, Aalto's libraries reveal the typological characteristics in the field of building layout, dynamic space and the effective use of light.

LUMENA 프로그램을 이용한 텍스타일 시뮬레이션 개발에 관한 연구 -라이브러리의 응용을 중심으로- (A Study on Textile Design Simulation using LUMENA Program-)

  • A computer simulation method for textile designs was developed using a generic-purpose graphics program, LUMENA and its results were applied for costume design simulation. Its design performance was comparable with those using specialized design package programs which are in general very expensive. Three areas of textile design, print pattern design, weaving design, and knitting design, were covered. In the print pattern design simulation, a gird network library was constructed by using basic methods of repeat, and a pattern library by scanning existing print patterns. Through the modification and synthesis of library patterns, many new print patterns could be obtained. In the weaving design simulation, a thread library and a draw-down library were constructed. Using them, simulations of woven textile structures were carried out. In the knitting design simulation, a stitch library and a detail library were made from various types of knit stitch and detail drawings of knit costume, respectively. They were used to make structural knitting patterns and jacquard knitting designs. Using those simulated textile designs, costume design simulation was carried out.

버클리대학의 도서관 사례로 보는 대학도서관 실내공간의 설계방향 연구 (A Study on the Interior Design Directions of University Library Building through the Analysis of UC Berkeley Libraries)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest some interior design directions for university library in the circumstances of rapid change of user's demand for the library. In order to extract some ideas about designing the library, I analyzed the libraries of UC Berkeley which has tried to transform the existing condition of the building for satisfying user's new needs. Informations of compositions, layouts of furnitures and book shelves, environmental conditions of 25 branch libraries of UC Berkeley, and spatial behavior patterns in libraries were surveyed and analyzed to get insights to design a new model of library buildings. The interesting phenomena got from the survey is that most of the library users used their own laptop computer in the library regardless of environmental conditions of the library or book types. In conclusion, as the library is changing to the place of studying, not of reading books, four design directions for the library are suggested in this research as like these; 1) Establishing a Regulation Free Environment for a user, 2) Enhancing the Aura of Books as an Interior Design Element, 3) Supplying Personalized Spatial Characters, and 4) Providing an Impactful Space.

  • Purpose of this paper is to research about new building type of Korean library and suggest the design of Library which based on the building type changes. This research is based on the idea that change of building type could be derived from Architects' designs. So, we analyzed space programs of Gunpo Library competition, redefined the space programs and suggested the direction of building type changes with program changes through design processes. The conclusions of this research are follows; first, we suggested new zoning system in library building design that is consisted of three separate building based on each building's own functions. Second, new zoning and library design would be helpful to making plan about library building competition. The method that we tried at this projec is useful to other complex building designs which have necessities to redefine building type.

공공도서관 실내 공용공간의 유니버설 디자인 적용성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Application of Universal Design Principles to Interior Common Spaces in Public Libraries)

  • Modern public library is expanding its role as generalized cultural facility. Therefore public library that has comfortable and physical environment for various age and various users are needed. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the application of universal design in common space of public library, and trying to suggest environmental improvement plan that various users could comfortably use the library based on its data. The scope of this research were adjusted as 8 public libraries located in Seoul and metropolitan area of Seoul. Spacial scope that was set of this research was common space of public library and scope of content was about application of universal design. As a result of the research, first, the application of universal design toward common space of public library were appeared as low. Second, constant management and application development of universal design is needed. Third, as roles and functions of public library become various from now on, application of delicate universal design is needed for intention of users.

공공도서관 설계경기에 나타난 계획방향에 대한 건축설계 연구 - 충청남도 도립도서관 설계경기 계획안을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Concept of the Public Library in the Architectural Competition and their Application in Design Process - Focused on the Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Library -)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the required concept in the architectural competition for public library and its application in design process. The research is based on the 27 design guideline of architectural competition for public library from 2009 to 2013 and, as a case study, the project for the Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Library, the prize winner in 2014. Three required concepts; symbolism, function, and sustainability, are categorized through the analysis on the design guideline of 27 competitions and are identified. Symbolism is expressed by landmark forms based on the local characteristics. The function of public library means to provide services to everyone, regardless of age, race, gender, religion etc., as a local community. Sustainability is related to passive architecture for the maintenance and management of buildings. These three concepts for public library applied on the design process of Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Library and design elements in each process are categorized in three concepts. The results shows not only how closely the locality and a user are related, but also the changes in the appearance of a public library as time passed.

  • 최근 도서관을 둘러싼 사회의 다변화는 도서관의 서비스에도 영향을 미치고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 모든 이용자에 대한 보편적 서비스를 제공해야 하는 공공도서관이 변화하는 사회 환경 속에서도 그 본질에 부합하는 서비스를 제공할 수 있도록 관련 제도 및 사례 분석을 통해 유니버설디자인 측면에서의 공공도서관 서비스의 방향성을 제시하였다. 공공도서관 서비스에서의 유니버설디자인 적용을 위하여 공공도서관 서비스의 보편성 추구를 위한 핵심 키워드 "유니버설디자인", 유니버설디자인을 통한 공공도서관 서비스의 경제적 가치 추구, 공공도서관 서비스 인식 개선을 위한 유니버설디자인, 유니버설디자인 적용을 통한 공공도서관 서비스 관련 정책 및 제도 전환의 4가지 방향성을 제언하였다.

서비스디자인 방법론을 적용한 도서관서비스 혁신 사례분석 (Case Study on the Library Service Innovation Applying Service Design Methodology)

  • 서비스디자인은 서비스를 개선하거나 새로운 서비스를 창출하기 위한 과정이며, 방법론이다. 본 연구는 서비스디자인 방법론을 적용하여 도서관서비스를 혁신하거나 새로운 서비스를 창출한 사례를 분석하였다. 본 사례연구는 덴마크 코펜하겐 시립도서관, 오스트레일리아 빅토리아 주립도서관, 피츠버그 카네기도서관, 조지아 공과대학도서관, 노스캐롤라이나 주립대학도서관 등 5개 도서관을 분석대상으로 삼았다. 사례분석을 위해 내용요소를 디자인 요구, 참여 대상자, 기간, 프로세스, 도구, 결과, 주요 특성으로 구분하였다. 본 사례연구를 통해 도출한 시사점은 다음과 같다: (1) 도서관의 서비스디자인은 이용자 중심의 서비스, 미래지향적인 서비스 창출에 주안점을 두고 있다. (2) 도서관의 서비스디자인은 사서, 이용자, 디자인 컨설팅 전문가 등 모든 이해당사자의 협업에 의해서 이루어진다. (3) 기간의 관점에서 보면, 서비스디자인은 지속적이며, 프로젝트의 성격이 있다. (4) 도서관 서비스디자인은 이용자 경험, 과정, 프로토타입 개발 및 적용에 주안점을 둔다. (5) 도서관 서비스디자인은 설문, 조사, 면담 등 전통적인 방법 외에 블루프린트, 고객여정지도, 터치 포인트, 섀도우, 폐르소나 등 새로운 도구를 활용하고 있다. (6) 도서관 서비스디자인의 목적은 서비스 개선 및 서비스 창출에 있고, 총체적인 접근방식에 주안점을 둔다.

Co-designing the Library Makerspace with Children: A Case Study of Seoul Children's Library with a Focus on 3D Printing

  • This study aimed to discuss the utilization of a makerspace regarding 3D printers in a children's library by conducting co-design sessions targeting the end-users, children. To achieve this, a program utilizing a 3D printer was conducted for seven children at the Seoul Children's Library, followed by interviews with both the children and their parents. The results revealed several key findings: First, during the design sessions, participating children showed interest in the physical realization of ideas through the use of a 3D printer. Researchers adjusted their level of intervention based on each child's tendency, playing a supportive role. Second, children became aware of various limitations associated with 3D printers and public library makerspace. Third, the rapport between children and researchers positively influenced the design sessions, driven by the active communication of children. This study suggests a reevaluation of the value and necessity of library makerspace from the perspective of user autonomy and creativity and emphasizes the need to closely understand the end user's requirements in establishing operational strategies for library makerspace.

도서관가구의 디자인방향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design of the Furniture the Library)

  • This study is creating furniture design strategies that can upgrade the library function. Today, everyday life is in very strong relationship with the library. In most cases, however, to focus on building libraries. In fact, Because users are living libraries inside the building was in contact with furniture. The selection of furniture and design library is very important. The first thing the process of study, research purposes, surf the web and through a literature search for the second time, and refers to cases examined, and analyzes more than libraries. Furniture Design strategies. The study's conclusion can be summarized as follows. Direction of Library Furniture Design 'identity or symbolism', 'flexibility', 'sustainability', 'charm', 'hybrid' to clean up. And propose a design guide, showing specific examples.
