인도 및 파키스탄의 도서관학교육 비교연구 (A comparative study on library and information science education of India and Pakistan)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the information for the developing rational curriculum that is necessary in the socio-cultural situation by comparativing and analyzing the library and information science education of India and Pakistan. The conclusions of the study can be summarized as follows: 1) It is desirable that Master's degree course and M. Phil. program in India, Post-graduate diploma course and Master's degree course in Pakistan should be integrated as Master's degree course. 2) It is desirable that the duration of Master's degree course should be extended. 3) The variously expressed papers that represented the same subject or content should be unified. 4) In Bachelor's level, India establishes the various papers of library and information science, but Pakistan offers largely the core papers. 5) It is desirable that papers of historical research, progressive reference service, and information science should established, and introductory papers should be united in introduction to library and information science. 6) In Master's degree course, Indian curriculum is more up-to-date and pertinent than Pakistan's. 7) Each university should establish the papers of types of libraries standing for characteristic of his university, and harmonize library science and information science. 8) The reason that curricula of two countries are different from each other is due to lack of inter-university cooperation and standard of curriculum, therefore it is required a continuing research and effort to su n.0, pplement and reorganize the curriculum.

A Comparative Analysis of Editorial Leaders' Profiles of Major and Non-Western Library and Information Science Journals

  • Due to the competitive nature of journal publishing, editorial leadership has become an increasingly important issue on many editorial teams. This study aimed to compare the major and non-Western international journals in library and information science and reveal the differences between them. To conduct this study, journals indexed by Scopus and Web of Science were analyzed in terms of gender, professional position and rank, institutions, and the iSchool status of the editorial leaders' institutions. The most notable results were the following: a) As a whole, both types of journals lacked true internationalization. Editorial leaders of major journals tended to be from Western countries, whereas editorial leaders of non-Western journals tended to be from non-Western countries; b) Most non-Western journals tended to appoint editorial leaders from the same country as the publisher's country; and c) Almost all editorial leaders of non-Western journals were from various non-Western countries and tended to have lower h-index scores, and their institutions were not part of the iSchool. Future research should assess editorial leadership, compare the results of this study to other disciplines, and find effective ways to collect data on editorial leaders while minimizing ethical concerns in order to meet future research needs.

The Five Laws of Library Science from a Japanese Angle

  • The Five Laws of Library Science was introduced into Japan in 1935. After World War II, it was widely disseminated among young librarians by the education for librarianship developed in the 1950's. Its concept, "Books for All," met a serious opposition from local authorities based on their long continued concept of "preservation." After they realized that people eagerly use local libraries, they interpreted that the duty of public library was "lending books." They introduced "Privatization" of libraries into quite a few local libraries in order to save money. For overcoming problems, it is important to disseminate the library concept among the public, the assembly members and government officials planning to change their attitude of disregarding libraries. As the fundamental library philosophy, the Five Laws of Library Science is important. In the commentary of the Five Laws written by the present writer, he included an illustration of triangle pyramid showing the structure of the Five Laws. He included here the spiral of study on the library and the library science, based on the Section 814 of the Five Laws. He welcomes discussions on his Japanese angle from different viewpoints in order to develop further understanding of the Five Laws.

도서관학 교과과정의 변화 (Curriculum change in education for librarianship)

  • This paper compares the curricula in 1985 and those in 1993 of nine Department of Library and Information Science. The Comparison may be claimed as a curriculum comparison between the Departments of Library Science and the Departments of Library and Information Science. The purpose of the comparison is to find out the differences of the curricula provided between the 1980s and the 1990s. The differences are expected to show the trends of library education and the reasons which have caused them to ha n.0, ppen. Before comparing, some theoretical backgrounds of curriculum developments as well as the curriculum changes in the United States of America and in Korea have been described. For the purpose of the study, the numbers of subjects, compulsory and elective, along with credits, the subjects included in the curricula, and the distributions of the subjects have been compared. Some differences are found between the periods, but they are not so distinctive as expected. The most notable change is an increase of subjects on information science and technology. Based on the findings, a few suggestions, which include that subjects dealing with library use and services need to be increased, are recommended.

도서관계의 경향과 사서직 교육의 변화

  • This paper traces the trends of librarianship and the changes in the education for librarianship during the 1950s through the 1990s. The purpose of tracing is to find out whether there were some relationships between library activities and education for librarianship, which are supposed to be closely linked and cannot be discussed separately. The historical development of the field and the changes of information technology and library education in the United States of America during the same period are described to show how library and information science field has changed and how American library schools, whose system of library education was introduced into this country, have adopted new technologies. The results of the research show that, even in part, there were such relationship between libraries and library education as libraries' interests in library automation and library schools' provision of library automation course. It was also found out that the Korean library schools tended to follow the curricula provided by their American counterparts. Based on the findings, some suggestions are provided.

과학기술분야 전문도서관의 포털서비스에 관한 연구 (A Study of Portal Service for Science and Technical Library)

  • 본 연구는 과학기술분야 전문도서관의 포털서비스 개발을 위하여 연구자들의 정보요구를 조사하고, 정보서비스 현황을 분석하여 그 기초자료를 제시하는데 있다. 연구방법은 과학기술분야 연구자들을 대상으로 한 설문조사와 전문도서관의 정보서비스 통계 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 연구의 결과는 과학기술분야 연구자들은 필요한 정보 입수를 위하여 소속기관의 도서관 홈페이지를 가장 자주 이용하며, 메타검색서비스를 가장 많이 이용하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 대부분 학술정보 공유활동이 필요하며 이러한 활동에 참여하겠다고 하였다.

  • 본고는 도서관 정보 서비스 및 이용자교육의 중요한 연구 영역인 도서관 불안에 관한 연구를 디지털 도서관 환경 측면에서 새로이 검토하였다. 특히 본 논문은 디지털 도서관이 활성화되기 전에 개발되어 현재까지 대부분의 도서관 불안 연구에서 측정도구로 사용된 Bostick(1992)의 도서관불안척도(Library Anxiety Scale: LAS)를 분석하면서 디지털 도서관 환경에서의 변화(예: 디지털 참고 정보봉사, 원격 이용의 증가, 서지교육에서 정보이용교육으로의 질적 전환 등)를 충분히 수용하지 못하고 있는 그 도구의 한계점을 파악한 후, 이 논의를 토대로 정보이용과 관련된 불안을 측정할 수 있는 새로운 도구개발의 필요성과 방향을 제시하고자 하였다.

UNESCO의 미디어와 정보 리터러시의 교육내용 분석과 교육과정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Analysis of Educational Content and Curriculum of UNESCO's Media and Information Literacy)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 UNESCO가 제안한 미디어와 정보 리터러시(MIL: Media and Information Literacy)의 개념과 교육내용 및 교육과정을 문헌정보학의 관점에서 탐구하여 도서관과 정보생활 교육과정의 개정에 필요한 기초 정보를 얻고 시사점을 도출하는 데 있다. 분석결과, UNESCO는 미디어 교육에서 정보 리터러시의 특성과 중요성을 부각시키기 위하여 MIL이라는 용어를 사용하였으며, 정보 리터러시와 도서관 리터러시는 MIL의 개념과 교육과정을 구성하는 핵심적인 요인이었다. 또한 UNESCO는 MIL 교육과정의 필수적인 영역으로 '정보 리터러시와 도서관 역량(skills)'을 제시하였고, 핵심역량과 성취 기준도 제시하고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 도서관학의 5법칙을 토대로 MIL의 5법칙도 제시하는 등 MIL 교육과정은 정보 리터러시와 도서관 리터러시를 적극적으로 수용하고 있다. 본 연구 결과는 문헌정보학에서 MIL을 적극적으로 수용해야 하는 이유와 도서관과 정보생활 교육과정 개정에 필요한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • 본 논문은 기존의 학회지 중심의 연구와는 다른 현장중심의 학술지를 통하여 문헌정보학의 연구동향을 파악하기 위하여 1996년부터 2000년까지 "도서관", "국회도서관보", "도서관문화"에 게재된 논문을 대상으로 하여 문헌정보학 분야의 연구영역과 주제의존도 및 학심저널을 분석하고자 하였다. 본 연구 결과, 실무에 있어서의 주된 연구분야는 문헌정보학분야에 대한 의존도가 큰 것으로 나타났으며 정보학에 대한 의존도는 낮은 것으로 분석되었다.났으며 정보학에 대한 의존도는 낮은 것으로 분석되었다.
