  • The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of school library services using the RGT (repertory grid technique), and to examine whether there are differences in the perceptions and internal experiences of school library services between human resources (librarian teachers, subject teachers, and librarians). I used indicators such as element intensity, construct extremity, discrepant constructs, and implicative dilemmas to analyze the characteristics of school library services. The elements of the repertory grid were set to 9, and 14 constructs were set through focus group interviews with 3 librarian-teachers. The GRIDCOR 6.0, which can be accessed online, was used to complete the repertory grid for 30 graduate students of the College of Education, and 6 of them were selected and analyzed, considering the demographic characteristics. From the perspective of element intensity, it was found that the following school library services are important and influential: resource management, teacher-librarian collaboration, and reading and information counseling services. The clarity of one's role, the actual performance, and self-regulatory ability were ranked high from the perspective of constructs intensity.

According to results of analyses, the SLBI begin with subject teachers' demand for learning materials and teacher librarians play their educational role in Information search & access and representation & synthesis of information during the instruction. Compared with previous studies, the limitations of SLBI we can see in this study are restricted role of teacher librarians, exclusive attitude and antipathy to classroom opening of subject teachers under the SLBI. The bars of promoting the SLBI are also the difficulty of collaborative working with several same subject teachers and subject classroom system. The ways of activating the SLBI suggested in their self-reported appraisals are building intimacy with subject teachers and participating actively curriculum council, peer-supervision and demonstration classes.

  • The author describes the reasons why fantasy literature is more useful for reading guidance than realistic fiction. The activities of the human brain are in accordance with the activities of creating fantastic stories. She explains that the characteristics of creativity. according to the findings of psychologists and neuroscientists, are inherent in the activities of the human brain which is integrating information. These properties of information integrating are strongly immanent in fantasy literature. Fantasy literature provides the brains of readers with opportunities to integrate information because of its heterogeneity, for fantasy literature includes both realistic and unrealistic characters and settings comparable to those of realistic fiction. Also fantasy literature appeals to the curiosity and interest of young people, so students easily pay attention to it. Therefore, the author recommends that teacher-librarians use fantasy literature for reading guidance for students. In order to achieve successful reading guidance at school libraries, the author recommends the following. 1) A school library should have teacher-librarians who are well grounded in literature. 2) School authorities should elevate the teacher-librarian’s status to the same level as that of other teachers and create conditions such that teacher-librarians can best carry out their responsibilities. 4) It is necessary that a variety of lesson plans be developed for use by teacher-librarians.
