Effect of Phase Stabilizers on the Phase Formation and Sintering Density of $Na^+$-Beta-Alumina Solid Electrolyte (상 안정화제가 $Na^+$-Beta-Alumina 고체 전해질의 상 형성 및 소결밀도에 미치는 영향)

  • $Na^+$-beta-alumina solid electrolyte was synthesized by solid state reaction using $Li_2O$ and MgO as a phase stabilizer, and the effect of stabilizers on the phase formation and sintering density was investigated. In order to determine the phase fraction according to the synthesizing temperature, the molar ratio of [$Na_2O$] : [$Al_2O_3$] was fixed at 1 : 5, and calcination was conducted at temperatures between $1200{\sim}1500^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. In the $Li_2O$-$Na_2O$-$Al_2O_3$ ternary system, ${\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$-alumina phase fraction considerably increased by the secondary phase transition at $1500^{\circ}C$, whereas it maintained similarly in the MgO-$Na_2O$-$Al_2O_3$ system. Additionally, the disc-type specimens of $Na^+$-beta-alumina were sintered at the temperature between $1550{\sim}1650^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, and relative sintering densities, phase changes, and microstructures were analyzed. In case of $Li_2O$-stabilized $Na^+$-beta-alumina, ${\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$-phase fraction and relative density of specimen sintered at $1600^{\circ}C$ were 94.7% and 98%, respectively. Relative density of MgO-stabilized $Na^+$-beta-alumina increased with a rise in sintering temperature.

The Fabrication of Low Temperature Firing Substrate of $Li_2O-MgO-MgF_2-SiO_2-B_2O_3$ system

  • The $Li_2O-MgO-MgF_2-SiO_2$glasses with addition of $B_2O_3$ were investigated in order to make glass-ceramics for low temperature firing substrate. Glasses were made by melting at $1450^{\circ}C$ in the electronic furnace and crystallized at $750^{\circ}C$. The crystal phases were polycrystalline of lithium boron fluorphlogopite and lithium fluorhectorite. The crystal shape was chanced to granule type from needle type with increasing $B_2O_3$ content. Average particle size of the glass-ceramics after water swelling was 3.77$\mu\textrm{m}$. The optimum sintering temperature and sintering shrinkage of the substrate were $900^{\circ}C$ and 13.4%, respectively.

  • Glass composed of $Li_2$O.MgO. $MgF_2$.$SiO_2$.$B_2O_3$ for the fabrication of green sheet was prepared by melting process, and glass ceramics was prepared by the process of nucleation and grystal growth for the glass of $Li_2$O.MgO. $MgF_2$.$SiO_2$.$B_2O_3$ system with Lithium fluorhectorite and Lithium boron fluorphlogopite crystal phase. Powderization of the glass ceramics was carried out by water swelling. The average particle size at this point was 2.574 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Slurry was prepared for green sheet using high viscous sol fabricated by water swelling, which shows cleavage phenomenon in prepared glass ceramics. The optimum ratio of powder to water for the tape casting was 18:100, and its viscosity was 11,000~14,000 cps.

  • 초내열성 결정화유리는 전기전자부품, 천체만원경의 반사경, 직화용 조리기기, 군사용 부품 등에 광범위하게 이용되고 있는데 이중 LAS 계가 가장 오랫동안 알려진 조성 계이다. 이 결정화유리는 주입성형후 열처리에 의하여 결정상을 생성하여 사용되는데 표면이 매우 낮은 조도를 갖는 것으로 알려져 있으나 실제로는 제조상에 조도가 높게 나타나는 문제점이 제기되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 미세조직적인 측면에서 이러한 점을 연구하고자 Li$_2$O-AL$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$를 주성분으로 하고 소량의 MgO와 핵생성제로서 TiO$_2$, ZrO$_2$를 사용하여 시편을 제조하였다. 제조된 결정화유리의 결정화도의 차이에 따라 AFM, $\alpha$-STEP등으로 표면의 조도를 정량화였다. 결정상의 종류, 크기, 결정화도, 결정상간의 간격 등이 표면의 조도에 어떻게 영향을 주는가 에 대하여 연구한 결과를 제시하였다.

Effect of Additives on the Refractive Index of B2O3-SiO2-Al2O3 Glasses for Photolithographic Process in Electronic Micro Devices

  • In fabricating plasma display panels, the photolithographic process is used to form patterns of barrier ribs with high accuracy and high aspect ratio. It is important in the photolithographic process to control the refractive index of the photosensitive paste. The composition of this paste for photolithography is based on the $B_2O_3-SiO_2-Al_2O_3$ glass system, including additives of alkali oxides and rare earth oxides. In this work, we investigated the density, structure and refractive index of glasses based on the $B_2O_3-SiO_2-Al_2O_3$ system with the addition of $Li_2O$, $K_2O$, $Na_2O$, CaO, SrO, and MgO. The refractive index of the glasses containing K2O, Na2O and CaO was similar to that of the [BO3] fraction while that of the SrO, MgO and Li2O containing glasses were not correlated with the coordination fraction. The coordination number of the boron atoms was measured by MAS NMR. The refractive index increased with a decrease of molar volume due to the increase in the number of non-bridging oxygen atoms and the polarizability. The lowest refractive index (1.485) in this study was that of the $B_2O_3-SiO_2-Al_2O_3-K_2O$ glass system due to the larger ionic radius of $K^+$. Based on our results, it has been determined that the refractive index of the $B_2O_3-SiO_2-Al_2O_3$ system should be controlled by the addition of alkali oxides and alkali earth oxides for proper formation of the photosensitive paste.

Oxidative Coupling Reaction of Methane (메탄의 산화성 짝지음 반응에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to find a catalyst system which has high conversion and selectivity for the oxidative coupling of methane to produce ethane and ethylene. Various catalysts were tested in a fixed bed reactor ar $750^{\circ}C$, 1 atm, and the feed ratio($CH_4/O_2$) of 2/1. Under the reaction condition, 10wt%$PbSO_4/MgO$ catalyst showed the highest catalytic activity : methane conversion, $C_2$ selectivity and yield were 50, 40 and 20%, respectively. Catalysts containing sulfate compounds, 10wt%$PbSO_4/MgO$, 10wt%$MgSO_4/MgO$ and $Na_2SO_4/MgO$ revealed a moderate methane conversions such as 38, 50 and 50%, respectively and low $C_2$ selectivities such as 18, 5 and 9%, respectively. Catalysts containing carbonate compounds, 10wt%$PbCO_3/MgO$, 10wt%$Li_2CO_3/MgO$ and $NaCO_3/MgO$, also showed a moderate methane conversions such as 64, 44 and 51%, respectively and low $C_2$ selectivities such as 5, 6 and 2%, respectively. With the existence of chlorine and mercury, $C_2$ selectivity was decreased.

  • In the study the characteristics change of crystallized $Li_2O$.$Al_2O_3$.$SiO_2$ glass-ceramics when varying RO ratio and increasing Al2O3 were investigated to produce a glass-ceramics with high mechanical strength and low thermal expansion. Parent glass was obtained by melting at 1,350~1,40$0^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours and annealing at 45$0^{\circ}C$ and the various physical characteristics were measured. Results were as follows; 1. When ZnO was replaced by MgO thermal expansion coefficient was lowered when increasing ZnO content. 2. Major crystal phase was $\beta$-spodumene the crystal growth mophology was the three dimensional sphere and the activation energy for crystallization was 54.6 Kcal/mol. 3. Parent glass heat-treated at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 hours had ; a) thermal expansion coeff. of $23.2{\times}10^{-7}$/$^{\circ}C$ b)whiteness of 76 c) microhardness of 1,089kg/$mm^2$

Fabrication and Characterization of Wavelength Conversion Device with Periodically Poled Ridge-type Waveguide in MgO:LiNbO3 (주기적으로 분극 반전된 MgO:LiNbO3를 이용한 리지형 광도파로 파장가변 소자 제작 및 특성)

  • Wavelength converting devices with a ridge-type waveguide in periodically poled $MgO:LiNbO_3$ are made and characterized. The experimental results are compared with theoretical analysis on the effects of waveguide dimension and duty ratio of the periodically poled structure. To show the relationship of the conversion efficiency to those factors, a new measurement system is configured. That experimental results show that the center wavelength, normalized conversion efficiency and full width half maximum of the conversion efficiency curve are 1067.45 nm, 90.7%/$Wcm^2$ and 0.17 nm, respectively. Also, the estimated results of the duty period and full width half maximum of the conversion efficiency from theoretical calculations agreed well with experimental results with the errors of 0.016 ${\mu}m$ and 0.01 nm.

  • $Pb(Zr,Ti_O_3$계 세라믹스는 우수한 압전 특성으로 인하여 압전변압기 및 액츄에이터, 센서 등 많은 분야에 응용이 되어져 왔다. 그러나, 최근 들어 $1000^{\circ}C$에서 급속도로 많은 휘발을 하는 PbO는 환경 및 인체에 나쁜 영향을 미칠 뿐 아니라 사용 후의 처리도 어려워 선진국에서는 사용을 제한하거나 줄이고 있는 추세에 있다. 따라서, PbO를 포함하지 않은 무연 (Lead-free)계 압전 세라믹스에 대한 연구가 많은 관심을 끌고 있으며 앞으로는E 장래성 있는 하나의 이슈 분야가 될 것이다. 이러한 Pb-based System 세라믹스를 대체 할 재료로서 $(Bi_{1/2}Na_{1/2})TiO_3$나 Tungsten-Bronze type, $(K_{1/2}Na_{1/2})NbO_3$ 등이 주로 연구가 되고 있다. 특히, alkali niobate를 기초로 한 $(K_{1/2}Na_{1/2})NbO_3(NKN)$은 무연 압전 물질로서 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 그러나, NKN의 주요 성분인 K 의 높은 조해성 때문에 일반적인 고상방법으로는 고 밀도의 세라믹을 얻기 힘들뿐더러 낮은 상전이 온도 때문에 많은 응용에는 제약이 되고 있다. 이러한 세라믹의 단점을 보완하고자 Hot forging, RTGG, SPS 등 과 같이 특수한 소결방법을 사용하여 고밀도의 세라믹을 제작하지만 이 방법들은 제품 대량 생산에 있어 경제적으로나 복잡한 제조과정을 고려할 때 매우 비효율적이라고 판단된다. 그러므로 $BaTiO_3$, $LiTaO_3$, Mg, Ca등을 첨가 시켜 소결을 향상시키고 고밀도를 얻기 위해 많은 연구가 진행 중이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Pb-based계의 세라믹스를 대체할 우수한 특성의 세라믹스를 제작하고자 기존의 $(K_{1/2}Na_{1/2})NbO_3(NKN)$세라믹스에서 낮은 용융온도 때문에 소결하기 어려운 $KNbO_3$를 제거한 $NaNbO_3$$LiNbO_3$$BaTiO_3$를 추가한 $NaLiNbO_3-BaTiO_3$세라믹스에 $K_4CuNb_8O_{23}$(KCN)을 첨가함으로서 이에 따른 압전 및 유전 특성을 조사하였다.
