  • In the semiconductor and optical industry, a new transport system which can replace the conventional transport systems is required. The transport systems are driven by the magnetic field and conveyer belts. The magnetic field may damage semiconductor and the contact force may scratch the optical lens. The ultrasonic wave driven system can solve these problems. In this semiconductor and optical industry, the non-contact system is required fur reducing the damages. The ultrasonic transportation is the solution of the problem. In this paper, the ultrasonic levitation system fur levitating object are proposed. The 3D vibration profiles of the beam are measured by Laser scanning Vibrometer fur verifying the vibration characteristics of the system and the amplitudes of the beam and the levitation heights of object are measured for evaluating the performance.

  • For an electromagnetic suspension (EMS)-type urban Maglev train using U-shaped electromagnets, both the vertical and the lateral air gaps for levitation are maintained only by the electromagnet. The train can run over curved rails without active lateral air gap control because the U-shaped electromagnet simultaneously produces both a levitation force and a guidance force, which is dependent on the levitation force. Owing to the passive control of the lateral air gap, the lateral vibration could exceed the limits of the lateral air gap and acceleration. In this study, dynamic analysis of a Maglev train is carried out, and the effectiveness of a lateral damper for vibration reduction is investigated. To more accurately predict the lateral vibration, a Maglev vehicle multibody model including air-sparing, guideway irregularities, electromagnets, and their controls is developed.

  • This paper presents a new concept to implement and to control of tactile reproduction simulator by implementation of compliance emulator system. Compliance emulator system is a kind of levitation system using magnetic force. In the compliance emulator system, a floated plate moves vertically. When an external force is applied to the plate, the system produces a controlled reaction force by using 6 electromagnet. For the control, a LVDT displacement sensor and PD control method is used.

  • The dynamic response of the head arm assembly (HAA) of a hard disk drive to an impact load was obtained from a 3D non-linear finite element model using ANSYS/LS-DYNA and from experiments using a modified levitation mass method (LMM). In the finite element model, the impact load was created by modeling the mass as a rigid body and making it collide with the HAA. The velocity, displacement, acceleration, and inertial force of the mass were then obtained from the time history data of the finite element analysis. In the LMM, a mass that was levitated with an aerostatic linear bearing, and hence encountered negligible friction, was made to collide with the actuator arm, resulting in a dynamic bending test for the arm. During the collision, the Doppler frequency shift of the laser beam reflected from the mass was accurately measured with an optical interferometer. The velocity, displacement, acceleration, and inertial force of the mass were accurately calculated from the measured time-varying Doppler frequency shift. A good correlation between the experimental data and FEA results was observed. The FEA was also used to investigate the dynamic response of the HAA to impact by different masses.

  • For the high speed linear motor and the transportation device at clean room, a magnetic levitation rail without contact using the repulsive force of permanent magnets was newly developed. The characteristics of repulsive and lateral forces of the magnetic levitating system using permanent magnet was studied and the devised magnetic levitating system was evaluated by analytical and experimental approaches. This system is composed of two fixed guide rails with the rare earth permanent magnet array and a moving unit which is attached two magnet pairs at each sides. Because this system was forcedly levitated by the face to face repulsive forces, levitating air gap length can be repulsive force of an auxiliary magnetic repulsion system on the center of moving unit.

  • This paper presents a new structure for a linear active magnetic bearing using a Halbach magnet array. The proposed magnetic bearing consisted of a Halbach magnet array, center magnet, and single coil. The proposed linear active magnetic bearing has a high dynamic force compared to the previous study. The high dynamic force could be obtained by varying the thickness of a horizontally magnetized magnet. The new structure of Halbach linear active magnetic bearing has a high dynamic force. Therefore, the proposed linear active magnetic bearing increased the bandwidth of the system. Magnetic modeling and optimal design of the new structure of the Halbach linear active magnetic bearing were performed. The optimal design was executed on the geometric parameters of the proposed linear active magnetic bearing using Sequential Quadratic Programming. The proposed linear active magnetic bearing had a static force of 45.06 N and a Lorentz force constant of 19.54 N/A, which is higher than previous research.

  • When a radial wheel is placed so as to partially overlap a conductive plate and rotated, a lift force is generated on the wheel, a thrust force along the edge, and a lateral force which tends to reduce the overlap region. When several of these wheels are combined, it is possible to realize a system in which the stability of the remaining axes is ensured, except in the traveling direction. To validate the overall characteristics of the multi-wheel system, we propose a transfer system levitated magnetically using radial electrodynamic wheels. The proposed system is floated and propelled by four wheels and arranged in a structure that allows the thrusts generated by the front and rear wheels to offset each other. The dynamic stability of the wheel and the effect of the pole number on the three-axial forces are analyzed by the finite element method. At this time, the thrust and levitation force are strongly coupled, and the only factor affecting them is the wheel rotation speed. Therefore, in order to control these two forces independently, we make use of the fact that the ratio of the thrust to the levitation force is proportional to the velocity and is independent of the size of the gap. The in-plane and out-of-plane motion control of the system is achieved by this control method and compared with the simulation results. The experimental results show that the coupled degrees of freedom can be effectively controlled by the wheel speed alone.

  • Compared with linear induction principle, the transverse flux circumferential induction principle is suggested as a driving mechanism of the revolving stage, which can rotate contactlessly without any supporting structure. The stage realizes the integrated motion of levitation, rotation, and planar perturbation, using the two-axis forces, normally directed force of the air-gap and tangential force, of the induction drivers mounted on the stator uniformly. In this paper, the force generating mechanism of the stage is described in detail. First, the various core shapes generating the transverse flux are analyzed to guarantee the proper thrust force. And the vector force intensity of the circumferential induction driver constituting the stage is compared with that of the linear induction driver. Especially it is shown that the magnetic force of the suggested system can be modeled with the linear equivalent model, including the test verification.
