  • Purpose: To improve the quality of Korean progressive addition lenses, we measured the optical and geometrical elements of them and evaluated their qualities. Methods: We have measured the refractive power, the thickness at optical center and prism power for home and foreign progressive addition lenses which were distributed in the domestic market, and then have done a comparative analysis according to international standards. Results: The qualities of Korean progressive addition lens were on an equal footing with famous foreign brand products, but they were out of tolerance in a few cases. Conclusions: The careful attention is required to progressive addition lens, therefore, it is considered that more precise quality control is an essential element to strength the competitiveness of Korean products in the world market.

  • An analysis on the corneal diopter power and corneal radius has been carried out the Korean female in the twenties age. The results were as follows. The most contact lens wears have the early stage of the twenties age, but the increase of aging have a decrease. The mean corneal diopter power on the right eye have 44.04 diopter, but left eye have 43.92 diopter. The mean of corneal radius on the right eye have the 7.66 mm, but left eye have the 7.69 mm. As a results, In increasing of the age, Most mean corneal diopter power have increase, but the mean of corneal radius have not change.

  • Purpose: To develop more accurate wet measuring system combining the wet cell, automatic lensmeter and the related software for hydrophilic contact lenses and to verify the accuracy of those measuring holder system already available in the market. Methods: Refractive power measurement were done in both a conventional method which has been commonly used in optical shops and a new method which is recently developed in korea. Hydrophilic contact lens of korean brand was chosen as a test material and was tested by water content ratio and by spherical refractive power. Results: When spherical power of -3.00 D contact lens is measured in the newly developed wet cell measurement holder with automatic lensmeter, it reads -3.01 D at water content ratio of 38%. -3.00 D at 45% and -2.98 D at 58%. The same experiment with the Poster soft contact lens wet cell measurement holder maintaining other conditions same resulted in -3.60 D at the water content ratio of 38%, -3.06 D at 45% and -2.46 D at 58%. Conclusions: At the higher water content, the refractive power values measured by both of the wet cell measuring holders are shown lower, and additionally, the new method using the wet cell holder and new software program in a automatic lensmeter showed more accurate readings than conventional Poster soft contact lens wet cell measuring system.

  • Optical characteristics including the view angle and color temperature uniformity of LED packages with an integrated lens fabricated by compression molding method are investigated according to lens shape, lens materials, and phosphor coating methods. Four types of lens shape are designed and their optical output power dependence on the refractive index of silicone encapsulant are evaluated. Also, spatial color temperature uniformities of packages fabricated with different phosphor coating methods-direct coating on a chip vs. uniformly mixed with silicone encapsulant- are compared at various view angles. As the result, it is found that phosphor coating method is more effective on color temperature uniformity than lens shape. The maximum color temperature difference of a package with direct coating of phosphor on a chip is 1,340K according to the view angle at the color temperature of 5,000K, and that of a package with uniformly mixed phosphor is 250K, which indicates 1,090K improvement of color uniformity for the latter case.

  • A laser-engineered net shaping (LENS) process is a representative directed energy deposition process. Deposition characteristics of the LENS process are greatly dependent on the process parameters. The present paper preliminarily investigates deposition characteristics of Inconel 718 superalloy on S45C structural steel using a LENS process. The influence of process parameters, including the laser power and powder feed rate, on the characteristics of the bead formation and the dilution in the vicinity of the deposited region is examined through repeated experiments. A processing map and feasible deposition conditions are estimated from viewpoints of the aspect ratio, defect formation, and the dilution rate of the deposited bead. Finally, an appropriate deposition condition considering side angle, deposition ratio, and buy-to-fly (BTF) is predicted.

  • The characteristics of stimulated Brillouin scattering wave for applications to high power laser was experimentally investigated. The peak power reflectivity and the phase conjugation fidelity of Stokes wave with respect to the focal length of lens were measured, and the phase conjugation fidelity for a compressed part of the Stokes wave was also investigated. For the long focal length of lens.(f=100 cm), the peak power of the Stokes wave amounts to about twice as high as that of incident wave. The phase conjugation fidelity for the compressed leading pulse is up to 90%, better than that for other temporal parts of the Stokes pulse. In spatial distribution, the Stokes pulse from the axial region has the largest SBS gain, and it has been ascertained as a best candidate to the application due to excellent pulse compression, peak power reflectivity, and good phase conjugation fidelity.

  • There has been much advancement in the field of aerial cameras for geographical features with the help of drones, image processing power and computer aided optical programs. In this study, we propose a new optical lens design technique which minimizes the amount of ‘the third order Seidel aberration’ for enhancing MTF. In addition, we suggest a new optical lens design which stabilizes the mass-production yield through R.S.M and has robustness secure through the Taguchi method. Eventually, the image processing algorithm of stereo matching is implemented in order to evaluate whether the proposed lens design result meets adequate specifications for the use of dual aerial photographs or not. This paper provides good guidance for the optical design by development of experiments.

  • In this paper, we have designed a novel lens for LED's package that can expend the radiation angle of LED from $120^{\circ}$ to $170^{\circ}$ successfully. At the same brightness and uniformity condition of 37" LED BLU system, using novel lens LED package can be reduced amounts of LED 40% or thickness of BLU 30% respectively. Besides, the power consumption of BLU also can be reduced 25%.

  • Recently, DVD/CD compatible driver is needed for DVD and CD is widely used as a new optical data restoring device. The optical systems of DVD and CD driver are different because they have different optical feature. If only one objective lens is used, the change of an aperture or a dual focal length of the lens is required. This method, however, increases the number of parts and results in loss of the power of laser light. Hence, we propose a dual lens actuator design that can read DVD and CD respectively. Albeit magnetic spring is important mechanism in the dual lens actuator design, there has not been the systematic approach to design the mechanism in the preceding researches. In this article. the guideway to design magnetic spring is presented by using the qualitative theoretical approach and the finite element analysis.

  • The purposes of this study is examining a wearing tendency of a progressive multifocal lens. We measured refractive error values using subjective and objective refraction method with subjects in 40-65 ages. Also, we investigated and analyzed distribution of addition power and wearing tendency of progressive multifocal lens. Detected addition powers were ranged of +0.75D - +3.00D. In case of average addition, they were detected with +1.18D in 40's, +1.55D - +1.97D in 50's and +2.38D in above 61's age. The distributions of visual ability at a distant were measured that the hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism 43%, the myopia and myopic astigmatism characteristic astigmatism 7% appeared highly with 36%. The male who uses the interior aspect multi focal lens with the short-range work were appeared the male 20%, the woman 19%.
