In order to reduce the manufacturing costs of the glass lens, it is necessary to manufacture a lens using a UV curable resin or a thermosetting resin, which is a curable material, in order to replace a glass lens. In the case of forming a lens using a thermosetting material, it is necessary to form several lenses at once using the wafer-level lens manufacturing technologies due to the long curing time of the material. When a lens is manufactured using a curable material, an error in the shape of the lens due to the shrinkage of the material during the curing process is an important cause of defects. The major factors for these shape errors and deformations are the shrinkage and the change of mechanical properties in the process of changing from a liquid material during curing to a solid state after complete curing. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the curing process of the material and to examine the shrinkage rate and change of physical properties according to the degree cure. In addition, it is necessary to proceed with CAE for lens molding using these and to review problems in lens manufacturing in advance. In this study, the viscoelastic properties of the material were measured during the curing process using a rheometer. Using the results, Rheological investigation of cure kinetics was performed. At the same time, The shrinkage of the material was measured and simple mathematical models were created. And using the results, the molding process of a single lens was analyzed using Comsol, a commercial S/W. In addition, the experiment was conducted to compare and verify the CAE results. As a result, it was confirmed that the shrinkage rate of the material had a great influence on the shape precision of the final product.
Recently, lens manufacturing and assembly technology has greatly improved. However, tight requirements of manufacturing and assembly lead to an increase in cost and manufacturing time, and in some cases the performance of an optical system may deteriorate depending on the operating environment's conditions, such as temperature or vibration. In addition, the use of a compensator is an effective method to reduce sensitivity in an ultra-precision optical system, but in the case of a small lens, such as that in an endoscope, it is difficult to use a compensator due to the size limitation of the lens barrel. Therefore, minimizing lens sensitivity is the most important technology in lens design. For this reason, there have been various attempts to reduce the lens sensitivity, and there is a trend to add functions to reduce the sensitivity in the lens design S/W. In this paper, we introduce a design technology that minimizes lens sensitivity. We first design a lens with quite good performance, then analyze the sensitivity of this lens, make a multi-configuration with high-sensitivity element error, and then reoptimize it. We prove with an example that this design technique is very effective.
We derived analytic formulae for the correction of spherical aberration, coma, and axial color of a two-components lens system consisted of a cemented doublet and a singlet by using the thin lens approximation. The correction formulae were applied to design a telephoto lens system. We examined two kinds of glass combinations in the design, one was crown-flint-crown combination and the other was flint-crown-flint combination. We found two kinds of achromatic aplanat solutions in the crown-flint-crown combination. For the case of flint-crown-flint combination, there were also two kinds of solutions, but their configurations are not useful in practice.

The oil immersion method can be used to create objective lenses with long working distances without sacrificing the focusing resolution for laser processing. In this study, a space in which air or oil can be filled was formed in the middle of a lens for analyzing the optical properties of a liquid-oil immersion lens. As the refractive media, air and oils of different refractive index values (1.2 and 1.5, respectively) were used. A simulation was conducted in the ZEMAX software environment using the ray-tracing technique, and the performance of the oil immersion lens was verified by determining its image distortion and focal length (FL) in each medium. In the case of air, the calculated FL was 0.813 mm, whereas the imaged FLs were 1.594 mm and 8.126 mm when the refraction indices were 1.2 and 1.5, respectively. The FL of an oil immersion lens could be increased considerably. In terms of image distortion, the oil immersion lens exhibited little distortion at the center in all cases, but different degrees of image distortion were observed at different points away from the center depending on the refraction index degree.

In the past, precision optical glass lenses were produced through multiple processes such as grinding and polishing, but mass production of aspheric lenses requiring high accuracy and having complex profile was rather difficult. In such a background, the high-precision optical GMP processes were developed with an eye to mass production of precision optical glass parts by molding press. Generally because the forming stage in a GMP process is operated at high temperature above $570^{\circ}C$, thermal stresses and deformations are generated in the aspheric glass lens mold that is used in GMP process. Thermal stresses and deformations have negative influences on the quality of a glass lens and mold, especially the height of the deformed glass lens will be different from the height of designed glass lens. To prevent the problems of a glass lens mold and the glass lens, it is very important that the thermal stresses and deformations of a glass lens mold at high forming temperature are considered at the glass molds design step. In this study as a fundamental study to develop the molds used in an aspheric glass lens fabrication, a heat transfer and a thermal stress analysis were carried out for the case of one cavity glass lens mold used in progressive GMP process. Finally using analysis results, it was predicted the height of thermally deformed guide ring and calculated the height of the guide ring to be modified, $64.5{\mu}m$. This result was referred to design the glass lens molds for GMP process in production field.
Purpose: The present study was conducted to analyze any difference in the movement of aspheric RGP lens by the amounts of keratometiric astigmatisms using keratometer and corneal topography. Methods: Corneal curvatures in thirty six eyes of males and females of with-the-rule keratometric astigmatisms in their twenties were measured by a keratometer and worn aspheric RGP lenses. Then, lens rotations, vertical and horizontal movements of lens by blinking were measured to compare with lens movements when aspheric RGP lenses were fitted by total keratometric astigmatisms using corneal topography. Results: The case having higher amount of central keratometric astigmatism was 61.1% of subjects, however, 36.1% of subjects showed higher total keratometric astigmatism indicating that central keratometric astigmatism was not always bigger than total keratometric astigmatism. Since over 0.25 diopter difference between total and central keratometric astigmatisms was shown in 19 eyes (52.8% of subjects), the prescription for lens fitting could be changed. Significant difference in horizontal movement was detected with increase of astigmatism when it compared based on the amount of keratometric astigmatism measured by a keratometer. However, there was no significant difference in lens rotation, horizontal and vertical movements by comparison with the amount of total keratometric astigmatism using a corneal topography. When central keratometric astigmatism measured by keratometer was bigger than total keratometric astigmatism estimated by corneal topography, bigger lens rotation was shown compared with opposite case. Also, the tendency of bigger lens rotation was measured with the increase of keratomatric astigmatism in the case of same prescription having same base curves with same amount of keratometric astigmatism but different curvatures. Conclusions: From the present study, we concluded that lens movements on cornea were not totally different when aspheric RGP lens fitted on with-the-rule astigmatism by keratometer and corneal topography. However, there was some difference in certain lens movements. Therefore, we concluded that further study on the relationship between the prescriptions for lens fitting should be conducted for improving the rate of successful lens fitting by keratometer or for the proper application of corneal topography for lens fitting.
The cause of poor visual acuity was connected to the damage by the ocular trauma related. Especially the most cause of visual disorder was identified as irregular pupil by ocular damage. Therefore most patients stopped the wearing of the contact lens immediately by the visual decrease effects from irregular pupil disorder. But we had suggested that the contact lens wear was a very intensive visual therapy. We had identified the visual recover from several tests using the contact lens treatment.
Purpose: Analysis performance for spectacle lens which sales in domestic market and optimization design a spectacle lens which is corrected aberration. Methods: Measured center thickness, radius and aspherical surface coefficient for spherical and aspherical lenses which were ${\pm}$5.00D. Refractive index for every lens was 1.6 and they came from 4 different companies. I used 3 types of equipment to measure lenses. ID-F150 (Mitutoyo) : Center Thickness, FOCOVISION (SR-2, Automation Robotics) : Radius, PGI 1240S (Taylor Hobson) : Aspherical surface coefficient. Designed a lens which had 27 mm of distance from lens rear surface to center of eye, 4 mm of pupil diameter and small aberration on center vision $30^{\circ}C$. To shorten axial distance compared with the measured lens rise merits for cosmetic. Lens Design tool was CODE V (Optical Research Associates). Results: -5.00D aspherical lens had somewhat high astigmatism and distortion compared with the spherical lens. But it had a merit for cosmetic because of short axial height and decrease edge thickness. Improved a performance of distortion and ascertain merits for cosmetic due to short axial height and decrease edge thickness same as (-) lens in case of +5.00 aspherical lens. Though an optimization process front surface aspherical lens had a good performance for astigmatism and distortion and the merit for beauty compared with measured spherical lens. Conclusions: Design trend for domestic aspherical lens is decrease axial height and thickness to increase a merit for cosmetic not but increase performance of aberration. From design theory for optimization design front surface aspherical spectacle lens which has improved performance of aberration and merit for cosmetic at the same time compared with the measured lens. Expect an improved performance from design back aspherical lens compared with front aspherical lens.
Purpose: This review article was written to determine the effects of parameters characterizing a hard contact lens (RGP included), such as BCs, diameters, edge angles, on the time interval for tight fitted lens to return to the equilibrium when it was decentered from blinking. Methods: A mathematical formulation was established to relate or calculate the restoring forces and thickness of lacrimal layer beneath the cornea with the various lens parameters when the tight fitted lens was decentered from blinking. Based on this formulation the differential equations and their numerical solution program were set up to describe the time dependence of the lens on the position and to estimate the time for the lens's return to the equilibrium after blink. Results: It is found that the time interval for the tight fitted lens to return to the equilibrium decreases as either the BC decreases or the diameter increases because both the reduction in BC and increase in diameter result in the increase in the lacrimal layer thickness between the lens and cornea increase which yielded the lowering of the viscous friction in the lens motion. As the edge angle of tight fitted lens increases the time for recentering decreases due to the increase in restoring force without change in lacrimal thickness beneath the lens. In the case of flat fitted hard lens (RGP included), the lacrimal layer thickness under the lens increases as either BC or diameter increases which results in reduction in viscous friction so that the time for the lens's return to the equilibrium were to decrease. The edge angle of flat fitted lens does not affect the lens motion. Conclusions: The effect of BCs on the lens motion (time to approach the equilibrium) was concluded to be significant with both tight and flat fitted lens where its results are contrary with each other. The edge angle of lens only affects the motion in tight fitted lenses.
A 7-month-old intact female Persian cat was diagnosed with symblepharon accompanied by epiphora, brownish ocular discharge, and ocular discomfort in the left eye. Superficial keratectomy (SK) was performed to remove adhesions between the conjunctiva and cornea. To prevent re-adhesion after SK, the detached conjunctival tissue was sutured to the corneal limbus, and a soft contact lens (SCL) was inserted and a partial temporary tarsorrhaphy was performed. The SCL and tarsorrhaphy sutures were maintained for 22 days, and symblepharon did not recur 347 days postoperatively. SK combined with SCL is a relatively easy and cost-effective surgical option for feline symblepharon.
