Extension of Legacy Gear Design Systems Using XML and XSLT in a Distributed Design Environment (분산 설계 환경 하에서 XML과 XSLT를 이용한 레거시 기어 설계 시스템의 확장)

  • As computer-related technologies have been developed, legacy design systems have not been appropriate far new computing environment. It is necessary that most of them are either modified or newly developed. However, these activities require quite much amount of cost and time. This paper presents a method of extending legacy design systems to the internet without any modification using XML and XSLT. We have been extended legacy systems in the two viewpoints. First, an XML document has been defined to present the input information of a legacy system which is executed on the consol environment - MS DOS, for example. Also, an XSLT document has been generated to transform an XML document to the input document of the legacy system An XML document is transformed to the input document by XSLT processor according to the transformation rules defined in the XSLT document. This technique to generate input documents is independent to the platform type and facilitates to link legacy systems to other systems. Second, a legacy system controller has been made to control a legacy system and developed a web service to extend it and its controller. The legacy system controller operates it automatically. The web service provides its functions to other systems via internet. We have applied the developed methodologies to the legacy gear design system 조ich calculates AGMA gear rating md made AGMA gem rating web service.

  • As computer-related technologies have been developed, legacy design systems have not been appropriate for new computing environment. Therefore, it is necessary that most of them are either modified or newly developed. However, this requires quite much amount of cost and time. This paper presents a method of extending legacy design system without modification using XML and XSLT. In order to apply the developed method, a good example of legacy design systems, AGMA gear rating system has been extended so as to be suitable for the distributed computing environment. An XML document for AGMA gear rating process is defined. It is transformed to the form of the input document of AGMA gear rating system by XSLT processor according to the transformation rules defined in the AGMA gear rating XSLT document. After that, AGMA gear rating system reads this input document and generates an output document in the server. These operations are automatically executed by the external legacy system controller without user interactions. Using these operations, AGMA gear rating web service has been developed based on SOAP and WSDL to provide the functions of legacy AGMA gear rating system through the distributed network. Any system or user can implement AGMA gear rating process independently to the platform type, without making it for oneself, by simply referring the AGMA gear rating web service via Internet.

  • The automotive industry tries to provide infotainment systems to emerging automobiles. Since the infotainment systems require various peripheral devices and network connectivity, legacy operating systems such as Linux and Windows can be much preferred due to its plentiful device drivers and multimedia applications while the operating systems following OSEK standard are used for automotive electronic control units. Thus it is highly desired that the system software supporting infotainment applications can be portable over different legacy operating systems providing unified programming interfaces. The majority of legacy operating systems support POSIX interfaces for application development. MOST is an automotive network standard for infotainment systems. Network Service defines the protocol stacks for MOST control data, which is essential to implement infotainment applications over MOST. In this paper, we suggest a POSIX-based Network Service so that we can utilize legacy device drivers and applications for automotive infotainment systems. We measure the performance of the POSIX-based Network Service and show that its overhead is not significant.

  • Most of the SOA solutions applicable to businesses and organizations are taking a top-down methodology. It starts with an analysis of an organization's requirements, followed by definition of business models and identification of candidate services and ends with finding or developing required services. Challenges in adopting SOA while abandoning legacy systems involve time and cost required during the process. Many businesses and organizations want to gradually migrate into SOA while making the most of the existing system. In this paper, we propose A Method for Migration of Legacy System into Web Service(M-LSWS); it allows legacy system to be migrated into web service accessible by SOA and be used as data repositories. M-LSWS defines procedures for migration into reusable web services through analysis of business processes and identification of candidate services based on design specification and code of legacy system. M-LSWS aims to migrate of legacy system into web service appropriate for SOA. The proposed method consists of four steps: analysis of legacy system, elicitation of reusable service and its specification, service wrapping and service registration. Each step has its own process and guideline. The eligibility of the proposed method will be tested by applying the method to book management system.

Repetitive Delivery Scheme for Left and Right Views in Service-Compatible 3D Video Service

  • This paper introduces a novel repetitive delivery scheme for the left and right views in service-compatible (SC) 3D video that provides full backward compatibility to a legacy DTV system while retaining HD 3D visual quality without additional bandwidth or a codec over the legacy broadcasting channel. The proposed SC delivery scheme transmits individual view sequences of a 3D video in interlaced form, that is, a left-view sequence of a 3DTV program to be used repeatedly is transmitted first and stored locally, and the right-view sequence of the 3D program is then transmitted. This paper specifically describes the signaling, synchronization, and storage format methods used to validate the proposed SC delivery scheme. The experiment results show that the proposed SC delivery scheme can be effectively applied for an SC 3DTV service without degrading the DTV quality using only legacy DTV platforms.

  • Physical One-way Transfer, one of network Separating Network Technologies, shut off intrusion possibilities by removing data transfer line from external network to internal network. Physical One-way Transfer technology can not support legacy services based duplex transmission. Legacy services operating need agent for extra service with the support. But, Agent development have problems with adding cost and open internal protocols. In this papers, We analyzed legacy services between Control network and OA network in working SCADA systems, and based on the results obtained from the analysis, categorized the legacy services into three forms. We propose an agent generation method of the three service categories for Physical One-Way Transfer System. In addition, we design an automatic generation tool using the proposed method.

  • 기업의 비즈니스 시스템은 수시로 변화하는 고객의 요구사항과 새로운 기반기술의 출현 등에 따라 끊임없이 변화하고 있다. 따라서 기업은 비즈니스 환경변화에 유연하고 신속하게 대응할 수 있는 환경을 필요로 하고 있다. SOA는 이러한 요구에 적합하도록 설계된 아키텍처이다. SOA(Service Oriented Architecture)는 비즈니스를 세분화하여 반복 가능하고 가치를 지닌 단위 서비스들로 나누어 조립과 통합을 통해 새로운 가치를 만들어 낼 수 있도록 지원한다. 하지만 비즈니스 시스템의 많은 부분을 차지하던 Legacy 시스템에 이러한 아키텍처를 적용하기에는 많은 어려움을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 Legacy 시스템으로부터 SOA의 서비스를 추출하는 방법을 제안한다. 서비스를 추출하는 과정은 3가지 단계를 거친다. 첫 번째 단계는 COBOL로 제작된 Legacy 시스템의 프로그램에서 DATA DIVISION으로부터 변수를 분류 및 그룹화하고 PROCEDURE DIVISION의 루틴간의 연관관계를 파악하여 객체화시킨다. 두 번째 단계에서는 첫 번째 단계에서 얻어진 변수들 중 핵심 변수를 식별하여 객체화를 통해 식별된 로직에서 서비스가 될수 있는 로직을 식별한다. 마지막으로 세 번째 과정은 식별된 서비스와 데이터를 사용하여 SOA 서비스를 구축한다.

Reconnecting the Dots for the Payment Service Directive 2 - Compatible Asian Financial Network

  • Unlike the popular belief, digital transformation mainly gets stymied by legal and regulatory issues related with legacy institutions in Asia rather than technical difficulties. The real challenges triggered by the PSD2 (Payment Services Directive 2) are how the region would overcome the overly fragmented, centralized, and hierarchical legacy framework to allow necessary changes to respond to the digital single market initiatives as promulgated by the European counterpart. The PSD2 is expected to bring about substantial changes in the payment ecosystem by allowing payment service providers to access customers' accounts and transactions information via API that have been traditionally controlled by banks. This paper suggests an incentive-compatible mechanism design for open collaboration among legacy institutions in the region to help them adapt to the PSD2. As evidenced by case studies in Korea, the Asian equivalent of PSD2 can be implemented and further expanded to create region-wide PCS (payment-clearing-settlement) network by reconnecting the dots of legacy infrastructures. These decentralized, diverse, small payment networks can be further combined with the expanded RTGS-CDS platform to evolve into the next phase of Asian Financial Network.

  • In this paper, we propose the building method for the unified IoT service platform between the variety of legacy systems with the heterogeneous structures and the operating environments. To accommodate the structural diversity of legacy systems, we develop a virtual integrated structure and interface abstracting method. By this, the new platform can use the data sources of the legacy systems as if the data source is in the new platform. In a manner without modification of the legacy systems with performing minimum tasks, we proposes a model that can be integrated without affecting the availabilities of the legacy systems.

The Impact of Perceived Risks and Switching Costs on Switching Intention to Cloud Services: Based on PPM Model (지각된 위험과 전환비용이 클라우드 서비스로의 전환의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: PPM 모델 중심으로)

  • Purpose In this study, we investigated the impact of perceived risk and switching costs on switching intention to cloud service based on PPM (Pull-Push-Mooring) model. Design/methodology/approach We focused on revealing the switching factors of the switching intention to the cloud services. The switching factors to the cloud services were defined as perceived risk consisting of performance risk, economic risk, and security risk, and switching costs consisting of financial and learning costs. On the PPM model, we defined the pull factors consisting of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, and the push factor as satisfaction of the legacy system, and the mooring factor as policy supports. Findings The results of this study as follows; (1) Among the perceived risk factors, performance risk has a negative effect on the ease of use of pull factors, and finally it was found to affect the switching intention to the cloud services. Therefore, cloud service providers need to improve trust in cloud services, service timeliness, and linkage to the legacy systems. And it was found that economic risk and security risk among the perceived risk factors did not affect the switching intention to the cloud services. (2) Of the perceived risk factors, financial cost and learning cost did not affect the satisfaction of the legacy system, which is a push factor. It indicates that the respondents are positively considering switching to cloud service in the future, despite the fact that the respondents are satisfied with the use of the legacy system and are aware of the switching cost to cloud service. (3) Policy support was found to improve the switching intention to cloud services by alleviating the financial and learning costs required for cloud service switching.
