  • Objectives : The purpose of our study was to discuss about the scholarship value and contents of the transcription of Correction of the Classic of Materia Medica that was obtained recently. Methods : We analysed the transcription of Correction of the Classic of Materia Medica itself and compared form and matter with Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica[神農本草經], Compendium of Materia Medica[本草綱目]. Results : 1. It is obvious that the transcription of Correction of the Classic of Materia Medica is one of the book works of Lee Gyujun. 2. The transcription of Correction of the Classic of Materia Medica was written to recover the original figure of Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica standing on Compendium of Materia Medica. Lee Gyujun corrected qi, flavor and main effects of herbs according to his medical sight, and classified herbs into three grade. Conclusions : The transcription of Correction of the Classic of Materia Medica is not an original book but an interim book on working process. But it reflects the medical sight of Lee Gyujun and the medical level of those days sufficiently. Also it is the only study of Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica in Chosun dynasty.

전원기대론(天元紀大論) 중 상하주기(上下周紀)에 대한 석곡(石谷) 이규준(李圭晙)의 교정(校訂)에 관한 고찰(考察) (The study on Lee-Gyujun(李圭晙)'s corrections on the rule of circulation of heaven-earth(上下周紀) in the "Cheonwon-gidaeron(天元紀大論)")

  • In the chapter "Cheonwon-gidaeron(天元紀大論)" of "Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)", Lee-Gyujun(李圭晙) corrected "heaven has the rule of six and earth has the rule of five[天六地五]" to "heaven has the rule of five and earth has the rule of six[天五地六]", and "sovereign fire is bright[君火以明]" to "sovereign fire is summoning[君火以召]", which changes the meaning of the rule of circulation of the heaven and earth. Considering the context and many scholars' opinions, it was suggested that "sovereign fire naming[君火以名]" which was noted from Tang dynasty to Jin & Wen dynasty was corrected to "sovereign fire is bright[君火以明]" over Ming dynasty. In the corrections of Wangbing(王冰)'s Plain Questions, the sentence is written as "sovereign fire naming[君火以名]". The two characters, '明' and '名' are hardly similar in both shape and meaning, that it is only plausible to assume that it was mistaken for '召'. Consequently, we corrected "sovereign fire is bright[君火以明]" to "sovereign fire is summoning[君火以召]". And "sovereign fire is summoning, ministerial fire is locating[君火以召, 相火以位]", it raise "the rule of five and six is combined together[五六相合]". "The rule of five and six is combined together' means 'heaven's number of five" coincide "earth's number of six", and it says former times before dividing up and down.

  • The chapter holds great importance in understanding the fundamental aspect of disease occurrence, for it contains key concepts of disease of Naegyeong medicine. For this reason, prominent doctors from Jang Gyeong-ak(張景岳) of Ming to Lee Gyujun (李奎晙) of late Josun have based their Yang Gi-centered medical theories on this chapter. However, doctors such as Ju Jinhyeong(朱震亨) who have stressed the importance of Eum, also used the contents of this chapter to support their perspective on disease, which means that the main voice of this chapter is still unclear. Based on the previous chapter, it is valid to say that uses the Eum-Yang Body-Function Perspective(陰陽體用觀) to establish the fundamentals of life and parallels the uniqueness of each kind of Gi, Eum and Yang, in leading Gi activity in mankind. This philosophy based on the uniqueness of the activity of Eum/Yang Gi expands its target from human to disease in general, becoming actualized as a theory of external/internal body-function perspective. Cultivation methods based on this uniqueness is also being suggested.
