Methods We analyzed $\ulcorner$Dongyisusebowon(東醫壽世保元)$\lrcorner$ & $\ulcorner$Gyukchigo(格致藁)$\lrcorner$ which contain the contents of 'Heaven-Human-Narure-Order(天人性命), and 'Affairs-Mind-Body-Objects(事心身物)'. 3. Results and Conclusions 1) The structure of Sasang is divided into two, which are 'Talent(才能的 部分)-Action(行爲的 部分)' and 'Self examination(正己的 部分)-Perception of mankind(知人的 部分)'. 2) 'Talent-Action' is the ontological structure of the Sasang. 'Self examination-Perception of mankind' is the administrative structure of the Sasang. 3) The ontological structure of Sasang is essential concept which is explaining the existence of mankind. An administrative strucrure of Sasang is operative concept which makes human as oneself. 4) It is necessary to have the insight to organize these four parts into the one organic whole if one has to comprehend the profound meaning of Sasang. 5) Four parts of Sasang structure could be matched as 'Heaven(天)-Affairs(事), Human(人)-Objects(物)', 'Nature (性)-Mind(心), Order(命)-Body(身)'.

  • In modern western science, the humanities and social sciences are separated from the natural sciences. However, new interpretations should be explored based on holistic concepts and the principles of wholeness found in eastern nature. Examples of the latter from Korea include Lee Je Ma's Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM). We aimed to examine the features and problems associated with SCM, as well as approaches to these problems. Sasang constitutional medicine suggests that an individual's constitution is determined congenitally, and the body and mind need to be considered simultaneously when treating disease. And SCM thinks that individuality is important in clinical practice even in social relationship. SCM needs to develop for objective diagnoses, and basic research needs to be conducted in parallel such as study of the Confucian classics and neo-confucianism. Expanding the scope of patient-centric academic exchange has been raised as an important issue to exchange with Western medicine and so on. SCM can be the medicine that places humanity at the center, and its mentality could apply to preventive medicine and personalized medicine. So it has positive influence on construction of a healthy society and improvement of healthcare worldwide.

  • In this dissertation I have interest in the personality classification in order to recognize the personlity classification in order to recognize the tenfency of the mentality and the action. This paper compare the temperament of Sasangin(四象人) by Lee Je Ma(李濟馬) and The Psychological Types of C. G. Jung. As a result I get the following conclusions:1. Sasang understood that Sassangin have original tendency of the mentality. But C. G. Jung understood man has all of the four psychological type though they have discrepancy among them.2. In the function of the mentality, the both are similar.3. The mentality of So-Eum-In(少陰人) is similar to The Type of Thinking. The mentality of So-Yang-In(少陽人) is simliar to The Type of Feeling. The mentality of Tae-Eum-In(太陰人) is similar to The Type of Sensation. The mentality of Tae-Yang-In(太陽人) is similar to The Type of Intuition.4. The tendency of the mentality by the personality classification is of some use in the oriental medical therapy.5. For using the tendency of the mentality in oriental medical psychotherapy, they require more studies.

  • This study was designed to define the efficacy of prescriptions of Taeeumin in Sasang constitutional medicine. The twenty four prescriptions registered in Donguisusebowon Sinchuk edition written by Je-ma Lee in 1901 are the targets of this paper. We searched and analyzed original text such as Donguisusebowon Sinchuk edition written in 1901, Donguisusebowon Gabo edition written in 1894, Donguisusebowon Sansang Chobongwon, and posthumous manuscripts left by Je-ma Lee published by the Ministry of Health of North Korea. The pathology of the Taeeumin is classified into four mechanisms those are Esophagus-Cold (Wiwanhan), Cold Lung-Dry (HanpaeJo), Liver-Heat (Ganyeol), and Heat Lung-Dry (YeolpaeJo). The prescriptions of Taeeumin regulate four mechanisms. Twenty four prescriptions of Taeeumin regulate the mechanisms of Wiwanhan, HanpaeJo, Ganyeol, YeolpaeJo and correct the energy-fluid pathology of Taeeumin.

  • Sasang Constitutional Medicine is the constition medicine and the basis which constitution reveals is the distinction of the nature and emotion. Therefore the theory of the nature and emotion is the foundation which Sasang Constitution Medicine is coming into being. The author studied the progress that the distinction of the nature and emotion was formed and analized the phenomenon presented by the distinction of it as the principle of the movement of Yin and Yang. The results are following; 1. The beginning of the operation of the nature begins from some one part(cho ; 焦) among four part. That consists of the first factor of constitution-revelation. In accordance with the distinction of the nature, the second factor, that is the distinction of the emotion is determined and the united distinction of the nature and emotion presents the Sasang constitution. 2. The operation of the nature and emotion is the movement of Qi by the property of Yin and Yang and that is the phenomenon presented by the logical and scientifical law. 3. The ontology of Lee Je-ma is Qi-monism. 4. Four emotion(Sorrow, Anger, Joy, Presure) are not partional concept of the emotion but total concept which include all of it.

  • 1. Objectives: This study intends to identify the contents of Sasang Constitutional Diet through a book by Lee Je-Ma, to review the implied contents, and to analyze the influence of this information and principles on the formation of Eight Constitutional Diet. 2. Results and Conclusions: 1) The Sasang Constitutional Diet was systematically established by Lee Je-Ma, and is composed by the principles of 'food is on different from medicine(食藥同源)', principles of 'reinforcement of one organ(一臟補强)', principles of 'should not be mixed(混用不可)' and principles of 'food abstinence'(飮食節制)'. 2) The Eight Constitutional Diet has already been studied before 1962, and "Classification Of Constitutional Regimen and Diet", which recorded harmful and good food, has been used in clinical practices since 1962. The basis that can transform Eight Constitutional Diet into Sasang Constitutional Diet can be found in the fact that the Eight Constitution is based on the Sasang constitution. However, because clinical research on the relationship between 8 constitution and Sasang constitution is still sketchy, directly transforming the current Eight Constitutional Diet into Sasang Constitutional Diet seems unreasonable.

  • Objectives: In this study, we examine whether Sasang constitutions include all 8 attitude-function types, forming a complete paradigm from the perspective of Jungian psychological type theory. Methods: Analysis of the meanings of psychological attitudes and function of each Sasang constitution was performed, comparing them with the typological theories of C.G.Jung and John Beebe, both of whom are eminent minds in Jungian typology. Results and Conclusions: (1) Each Sasang constitution had all 8 psychological attitude-function combinations, which are diversely differentiated by type within their conscious and unconscious psyches. This is likely because attitudes and functions that develop in the conscious mind build up compensating attitudes and functions in the unconscious. (2) It seems that extroversion and introversion coexist within every Sasang constitution as psychological descriptions reported by Lee, Je ma state. The superior and inferior functions are disposed in the order of organ size in Sasang constitutions, but dominance of extroversion or introversion as defined by Jung's concepts of attitude does not seem to be determined by constitution.
