The resistivity of soils around ground electrodes is changed considerably according to the factors such as soil types, water contents, grain size, temperature and pressure. In this study, ionization characteristics of different soil types containing the same amount of water content due to the impulse voltages are investigated. In order to analyze soil ionization phenomena, critical electric field intensity for ionization and pre-ionization and post-ionization resistances are measured and discussed.

A microbiological study for the isolation and characterization of Leptospira interrogans was performed in an attempt to define the characteristics of Leptospirosis in Korea. The results are summerised as follows. Thirty-five cultures were isolated from 11 patients with leptospirosis and 24 wild rodents captured in Paju area. The isolation rate of Leptospira from wild rodents reached 23.1%. All 35 cultures were identified as Leptospira interrogans by their characteristic morphology and motility in dark field microscopy, pathogenecity in Guinea pig and sensitivity to 8-Azaguanine. Cultures formed diffuse subsurface colonies with hazy margin and were catalase, peroxidase and oxdase positive. The fifty percent lethal dose of isolate HM 4 in Guinea pig was $8.9{\times}10^4$ org. Mouse passage method was sucecssfully applied in maintenance of fresh isolates without any loss of their original virulency.

In order to design effectively the grounding system, it is very important to determine the optimum soil resistivity at the desired location of the connection to earth. This paper deals with the reasonable methods of measuring the soil resistivity where grounding electrodes are buried. The soil resistivity at three test sites with different resistivity of soil were measured as functions of the spacing between the test probes in the Wenner's four-point method and the length of test ground rod in the three-point method. In the case of the three-point method, the length of test ground rod of 2-10[m] in length was appropriate in two-layered soil structure. In the length range of 2-10[m], the results measured by the three-point method using the test ground rod with the length corresponding to the spacing between the test probes of the Wenner's four-point method are in good agreement with the data obtained from the Wenner's four-point method.

In this study, a potential mechanism through which the hesperidin might work on the effect was examined in vivo. Male rats were fed a high cholesterol synthetic diet (1%, wt/wt) with hesperidin (0.1%, wt/wt) for 42 days. Activity of hepatic HMG-CoA reductase was significantly lowered by the hesperidin supplement compared to the control. Hesperidin did not significantly alter plasma or hepatic lipids, but tended to lower those lipid levels. Hesperidin also subsequently reduced the fecal neutral sterols compared to the control(253.3mg/d vs.521.9 mg/d). The inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase resulting from the hesperidin supplementation could count for the reduction in fecal neutral sterols that appears to compensate for the decreased cholesterol biosynthesis. The dose of hesperidin in a high choles-terol diet should apparently be more than 0.1% to exhibit the hypocholesterolemic response in these rats. It remains to be determined whether the observed alterations in cholesterol metabolism are specific to the rat or also could be applied to the humans.
